Yep S12 is fantastic. Timeless as you say is more relaxed, dark background and velvet voices, but the S12 is so present, every string, drumskin reverb, and bass note, is as it should be...and so airy and spacious. Best planar I've heard too.

Had these for one day (had to wait awhile as AliExpress customs clearance required some follow-up; all OK). Your comments sum it up for me. I was worried that the KZ AZ09 Pro BT5.2 earhooks would not have enough power to bring these to life...but that proved unnecessary worry. These planars are fine with this BT gear. They also really shine with my Nakamichi SR-2E (c.1986) amp. As mentioned, they love EQ too.
At "only"' $141...I almost feel guilty. Almost...and not for long...they are that good. I am going back and forth between these and a set of modded Olina's (i.e. +1 set of filters). I am at my end game now with IEM's. Heaven can wait.

Your ratings are SPOT on; I got the Timeless after the Etymotic ER2's (both), and really didn't feel like it was an upgrade. Well, the S12’s came in …they are freaking awesome….with caveats.
They do need break in ..10 hrs ..after a day the bass became less boomy .
The cable is ok ( it works) .
As with any IEM’s..the fit is key ..they fit my ears fine with their white tips ( I’ll change over to CP100 later)
The bass is present and fun ..without bass bleed.
Mids are smooth and natural .
      Treble..crisp but not too sparkly.
Soundstage is average , not overly wide.
      Imaging..is average ( depending on the recording)..otherwise it’s ok.
If your recording is poor ..it’ll let you know .
Power requirements it’s good in 3.5 off your phone ..but running in balanced with a little more juice to play with opens up the sound.
Btw, running off the IFI Go Blue.
      Now , it’s fighting the OH10’s for supremacy in my IEM’s stable🤣
Quite frankly it may be the best IEM out there for the money….but it may not be for everyone .
      Those are my impressions 😊
      A definite buy!

I take these little Swiss Army Knife scissors and do away with the shrink wrap immediately. It’s kind of fun, actually. Unless you cut the damn cable itself. • @jonah3985
      @jonah3985 Před 2 lety +3

@@wadec6799 So, I've spent a few hours comparing the Olina and the S12 now and I don't think I've found a single instance in which I prefer the Olina.
As has been pointed out, most especially by dharmasteve, these things do drums so much justice it's hard to even explain. Every hit is distinct and the cymbals have a shine and crispness that I haven't experienced since my Audio Technica ATH-AD900s back when I had a vinyl collection and tube amps. But then, they do the low end as much if not more justice then my Sennheiser HD-25 1 Mk. IIs. Like, the kick drum really kicks and the bass evokes a resonance that I can feel in my body. It's glorious.
I was just doing a bunch of A to B comparisons, playing sections of a song over and over and then switching to the other IEM and comparing. I listened to Deftones, Porcupine Tree, Big Thief, **** Buttons, Nine Inch Nails, Bon Iver, Tool and a fair bit more and in every instance the S12 won out. The last two comparisons were where I finally decided to call it quits and accept the fact that I'm probably not going to find a song in which I prefer the Olina: the beginning of "UFOF" by Big Thief and the beginning of "Flume" by Bon Iver.I had heard the Olina were good with acoustic stuff so I figured I'd it was time to put them in their wheel house. In the first instance I paid particular attention to the drums as played in the first 15 seconds. On the Olina they kind of melded together and were a little lost in the rest of the song. On the S12 they were distinct and clear, but in no way overpowering anything around them. For "Flume" the acoustic guitar was just so much more clear and resonant on the S12 it really wasn't even fair to continue. To me it felt like a knock out blow so that's where I stopped the comparison.
There was one song, "Piggy" by Nine Inch Nails, where I felt the snare hits had more oomph on the Olina but then the S12 revealed so much depth to each hit -- you could hear the damn chains rattle like your head was next to the drummer! -- that I instantly forgot that it didn't have quite as much punch. This was one of the only instances in which I felt I could give a slight edge to the Olina. There were moments during comparisons where I thought I heard a detail I hadn't noticed on the S12 while listening to the Olina, but switching back over instantly proved that I was wrong: I just hadn't been paying attention to that particular sound because the S12 was blowing my mind with other things. That's kind of the story over all though: the S12 is just fun as hell to listen. There were moments where I caught myself continuing to listen to a song because I was just so into it, something I realized wasn't happening with the Olina.
To get less technical, what I noticed every time upon the immediate switch was that the Olina felt darker and colder to me while the S12 was brighter and warmer. I don't know if I'm using those terms correctly, but those were the sensations that came to mind. The S12 had an appreciably bigger sound stage and gave the impression of being in a room with analog instruments, something I just didn't feel with the Olina.
I feel really weird bad mouthing the Olina because they are a really nice set of IEMs. I love their case and their look and for $100 they sound really, really good. I had a week with the Olinas before the S12s arrived and I was digging them so much I considered not opening the S12s. I thought I was totally satisfied. I'm glad my curiosity won out, though. I got the S12 for one $130, and to be honest for only $30 more it's not really a fair comparison. Now, it looks like Letshuoer is upping the MSRP on the S12 to $170 and that's where you might be able to start to make a value judgment concerning price to performance but honestly, even then, if you can afford the extra $70 it's not really a contest.
Let me say this to finish off: I am just a laymen and I would hardly call myself an audiophile. I'm at best audiophile adjacent, lol. I'm listening to FLAC files and 320 kbps mp3s through a lower end DAP, the FiiO X1 (to be replaced by the Sony NW-A55 tomorrow). Take my opinion with a grain of salt, and of course everyone's ears are different. But I just spent a few hours of my life shoving foam ear tips (the same Comply tips were used on both the Olina and the S12) into my ears over and over again like I was trying to achieve some kind of audio climax through half inch penetration, and I figured I might as well share my viewpoint if it helps someone out. I'm a guy who can't afford the latest and greatest and I had to choose between the S12 and the Olina for the IEM that will be with me for at least the next few years. The S12 won out handily, and I'm even more excited than I thought I would be because it's exactly the type of audio device that makes you want to re-listen to your entire collection, I don't think there is any higher praise than that.

@@jonah3985 I've been following audio reviews for quite some time now mostly speakers and then tws and over ears. I just recently got into iem a bit and man I've commented and had a ton of replies on products from guys like us just enjoying these products and reviewers and I'd have to say in about 5 yrs your reply was absolutely badass... Best reply I've gotten. Ya had me as soon as ya mentioned deftones nine inch nails and tool and proceeded to tell me they are better in every way from the olina. I do know all ears are different but just your bands ya mention here I frickin love those bands . Still remember roadtrippin with some buddin about around 1998 or 99 blasting deftones cd my own summer in my 85 Honda accord with alpine deck Boston acoustic tweeters in front along with Boston acoustic in back and a 15 inch kicker and having my mind blown by how killer they were. Seen Pantera at ozzfest in Vegas in 96 or 97 when I was 15... to this day they are my favorite heavy bands of a time but got into heavy bands due to my 2 older brothers but hearing the deftones for first time not long after it and it was like nothing I'd ever heard before . Nin too were killer and to this day I think tool is one of the best bands of all time... I put their drummer in top 5 of all time and currently best drummer on the planet. But I also now gravitate towards old school stuff and especially live sets. Blast me some rory gallagher walk on hot Coals 1974 Irish tour and others or rolling stones live at marquee club 1971 love that whole set but anything from the 50s 60s 70s I dig!!!! Sorry for long comment but bein honest here I went from every tws made over last 3 yrs .. or pretty much every pair from 40 bucks up to 299 my favorite outta those bein my current go to the soundcore liberty 3 pro but about 2 months ago a guy I follow who does reviews reviewed the zex pro crn and I thought well for 36 bucks let's see what iem are all about. They impressed me enough that I started searching for next pair . The olina had just released and I waited till they were on Amazon and grabbed em. I instantly fell in love. This is all just paired to my note 20 ultra and a 17 dollar dongle the cx pro and the spinfit cp100+ tips in xl but the sound was unreal to me. Owned Sony xm4 bose quietcomfort sennheiser momentum 2 and tons of others but the olina even destroyed my liberty 3 pro for sound like they dont even compare no matter how i tune em in their app. But just this last week my left earpiece on olina developed a crackling sound or scratchy sound. Could get rid of it but had to turn up volume to at least 60 percent to make it less noticeable and 80 or more for it to completely dissappear but under 60 percent and I could not even listen to em cuz it drove me crazy. Tried to get linsoul to just replace em with new set but because I was still in the return window they said to just return thru amazon. I get some products when mass produced can have a defect here and there and know there's ton of others who have them and they work flawlessly. So I've been debating ordering them again or Goin a lil higher up in price as these too will be my only pair for quite some time. Had been lookin at the Kato the yume midnight and the timeless prior to olinas and now was lookin at those again but every review and every comment raves about these s12's!! Watched multiple reviews stating they like them more than timeless and especially if you don't already own the timeless that people should save the 60 bucks or round there and go with the s12. Man as I'm writing this I feel your comment and the countless video and reading comments from people with s12 that this will be the pair I grab!!!!! Man I fn appreciate your response big time!!!! Thank you for that and pretty damn cool ya took the time to be so thorough and share your thoughts!!!!!!!! Thank you!!! Now I just have to decide what dac/Amp to get for under 200 bucks lol!!! That is a serious search too but wish you many hrs of jamming on the s12's and again thank you!!!!

@@wadec6799 No problem, my man! Always glad to help a fellow music lover out. I actually cross posted this from head-fi because I had so many people asking me about the comparison between the S12 and the Olina that I figured I should have the comparison saved somewhere so I could easily copy and paste it. I commented in a few CZcams videos about both IEM's and instantly I got a flood of comments asking me which ones I preferred. As I said it's not really a contest, the S12s win out handily. This goes double if your preferred genre is rock because the S12s are just pure magic when it comes to bass and drums. They do everything else well too, but the backbone of the song, the low end and the percussion, really thumps and grooves with these bad boys. I agree with you on Danny Carey being one of the Top Five best drummers alive. I saw them in 2019 for the first part of the Fear Inoculum tour and I feel truly blessed to have seen him perform.
It really is amazing what these ChiFi IEMs bring to the table in terms of price to performance. I doubt anyone would be disappointed after listening to most of what's out there. But I really think the S12 is something truly special and once they become a bit more prevalent I think the buzz for them is going to explode. They're just an extraordinarily fun listen, and for someone like you who leans toward rock music, I don't even think it's going to be a question: the S12 are what you want. I've heard some people prefer the Olina for classical, but I wouldn't know because that's not really my preferred genre.
It sounds like music has been an integral part of your existence and has helped cement some truly special bonds. I hope the S12s end up sounding as magical for you as they do for me. Hit me back when you get them to let me know your thoughts! Enjoy!

Hi! Enjoy your videos and many thanks for the work you put in. Would like to ask a quick opinion/reco. I daily drive a 7hz Zero and Tangzu Wan'er. Also use a Hifiman HE400SE and M40x (in case that helps the discussion). Music is mainly forms of rock (indie, alt, shoegaze, pop punk, jrock), instrumental (math rock, prog rock/metal, jazz fusion), indie/jazzy/bluesy/chill pop, and occasionally some hiphop (specifically Kendrick/Kanye/early Drake). So a majority is music with instruments (as opposed to more electronic things).
Looking for an upgrade on the technicalities front - imaging, separation, resolution, clarity. Really enjoy the tuning of the 7hz Zero and Wan'er.
I can currently get a Hexa for $90, which would've been my insta-pick (Zero Red didn't seem like it would've been a big enough upgrade - can get it for $60 by the way) buuuuut, i can get an S12 for $100. Is the S12 too good of a deal to pass up? I feel like i will prefer the Hexa tuning more, but i believe the S12 is a considerable step up in technicals. And i would also be open to try out the different tuning of the S12, in addition to the better technical performance. What you think? 😅 Thanks!!!
