- Here's a nice little video guide showing how to remove the lid from a Bosch EDC17C10, and how to program. Here I use MPPS from AMT car tech, it's the best value tool on the market and does not incur a yearly subscription cost. Most ECUs are covered, and the Tri Core add on is really easy to use, and as far as I can tell works on any ECU with the Infineon Tri Core tuning protected processor.
If you're a hobbyist doing this on a budget I'd recommend to use the Kess KTAG these can be found online very cheap.
If you're not confident in opening the ECU, send it in to us and let us do it for you.

I've got MPPS tricore and also PCM Flash that can program the EDC17C10 without needing to open the lid ;)

Usually I just search there's nothing like that inside of mpps software. Dimsport has them integrated to the software like ktag

Hi Steve, I have a suspect 9M51-12A650-BF ECU from a Ford Focus 1.6 TDCi 2009, I think it's dead. Do you know how much current it should pull when powered up on the bench? I put +12v on C418, pin C3 and GND on pins H1,H4 and G4. It only draws 4mA. I can't get the ODB scanner to connect and the car wont start. Checked all the wiring so think the ECU is dead.
Yes 4mA is much too low, sure you have the right pinout is the ford pinout the same as the PSA? its worth double checking it

Thinking that something in the pcm power supply has popped.
I'd expect it to pull a few hundred ma at least.
Not sure if there are any other pins need power on to get the pcm going.
Can't see anything on the car schematics.
@@richardmarkham8369 how does it look inside? With ford you can program a replacement unit using ford IDS over OBD
@@StevenLewis-HDI-Tuning Not been brave enough to open it yet! I've seen your helpful videos on how to do it though! I dont want to ruin my chances of getting someone like ECU Testing to repair it if there's nothing obvious wrong inside - like shorted caps or blown diodes.
@@richardmarkham8369 I can probably connect to it and will be a great deal cheaper than ecu testing. Do you have proper equipment or ebay stuff and have you done one of these before and made it work?

How much volt is the alimentation of the tricore boot?
Its doesn't matter too much, 13.2v is a nice voltage to use

How dou you know pinout for ECUs Tricore mode? does it come with software and you get pictures with connection and boot pin?
Usually you can find everything if you search the ecu model and processor on Google. Sometimes you need to be a member of special forums or if you buy a genuine tool you can ask the tool supplier for the pinout diagram.

why not kess v2 clone ?
Only real kess will do this over OBD. Combi loader, bitbox are quite cheap and can do this over OBD. Better still is bench service mode woth PCM Flash, its in my other videos

@@adivarso8175 they actually work ok for one off jobs. I myself use only genuine equipment for use on customers ECUs as it's much more reliable.
@@StevenLewis-HDI-Tuning It's a false economy, you've no recourse should it fry your ecu or crash, however if you want to risk your own ecu then fair play, but when dealing with peoples car's and offering a so called bespoke and professional service it's best to use industry standard equipment.
