The Disco Sport's Ingenium diesel engine doesn't have a stellar reputation. I'm trying to extend this one's life with some extra-careful servicing!

I tried to register but there no ireland...u can put in the address here..I must be doing something wrong😂😂😂
I had to have the chain replaced at 105,000 miles in my Evoque which has the 2.0 Ingenium engine (cost me £2500). Apparently according to the approved garage I used they said that the manufacturer recommended changes of 10K miles is far too long. it needs to be every 5k miles or it just wears parts due to the oil getting really thin. Makes sense when i think about it as it had a worn turbo at 85,000 miles too (changed that myself though - pain in the arse). Just changed it to an L322 which I am enjoying immensely, helped my decision from watching all your videos so thanks!
Great to hear, the L322 is definitely a few steps above the Evoque.
Cheers
Sam
I looked at the DS before I bought my L322 and was sure it ticked all the boxes until I put 'ingenium engine + Discovery sport ' into a search engine......
You can get an early Discovery Sport (2014-2015) with a 2.2 diesel which is a Ford engine and much more reliable.
Had one in the other day .. did dpf egr and adblue delete .. and got it on 5w40 oil .. sounds loads better and chain don't rattle after leaving it over night now
I've just had the timing chain replaced on my 2018 model £3000 job thank god I've got the Landrover extended warranty
Was expecting the 2.5 asthmatic straight 6 turbo as the worst, only good for kick down on a tailgater with plumes of black smoke on 007 getaway level 😆
Yes, autodoc very good, needed new rear caliber on TDV8 recently
Quality mechanics T-shirt choice 😊
I remember the Ingenium engine being announced and everyone thought it would be fantastic . Unfortunately everyone seems to think it’s crap .😢
Me too - and I remember seeing the new JLR engine factory be built (where they build the Ingeniums) on the M54 near Wolverhampton back in 2013/14 and thinking it was great!
With the gearbox aren't you supposed to undo the top plug first? Otherwise if you drain the gearbox oil first, then find you can't get the fill plug out you're not stuck with having no oil in the gearbox? I say it like I'm an expert, but I've never done it and have only learned through videos like yours! Great video as usual Sam!
I did exactly that, cracked off the fill plug first as always 🫡
Cheers for the comment!
What mileage has that car done? I've the 2017 version. I change the oil every 5000 miles, but I plan on beefing up the timing chain and tensioners within the next couple of years
It’s on about 100k miles I believe. Every 5k should be plenty, from what I understand it’s the long extended intervals that cause the chain wear issue.
Great T shirt and almost a plumber’s crack 😁🤣🤣🤣🤣
Mechanic’s crack! It’s far superior to the plumber’s version!
@@SamsMotors 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hello, I have a problem with my l322., the compressor works only for a few seconds and turns off and I get the message that says SUSPENSION FAILURE YOU CAN ONLY USE THE NORMAL HEIGHT, what could it be?
The chains are a big problem in the early 2 lt diesel now whats a big problem to is the oil change times 10km or just over and you will have no problems i us castrol 5w30 gtx on my 3.6 im looking at moving up a few years to the new range rover sport with the 4.4 sdv8
Yeah - I've recommended him to do it every 10k. It seems pretty robust apart from that issue, but it got a pretty bad reputation for it early in its life!
The auto doc doesn't give Ireland as a option?
We can use www.auto-doc.ie here 👌🏻
@@SamsMotors thanks
Unfortunately my one of these, a beautiful HSE Black in Aintree Green had the death rattle! Mechanic’s diagnosis the engine was on borrowed time so PX’d it for an L494. Lovely car with a good powerful engine, only let down by JLR poor quality components, and a dodgy dealer who was happy to sell it like that to an unsuspecting customer
6:07 Jesus what make of oil is that.... obviously a well known brand!!!
😂 it was decanted from a 20L jug of Castrol 💪
Hi Sam, I have the AUTODOC app, but doesn’t seem to take in Irish registrations or have Ireland as a selection for currency. How did you get over this.
Hi Mark, they're working on adding Ireland to the app - for now we can use www.auto-doc.ie 👍
2k to change the chains in that engine the 2.2 was a better engine
2.0 litre engine's are dog s**t and 2.2 is tough but basically what is in a Ford Transit. Not really cutting it for a so called luxury car
the main issues with this engine is actually carbon build up i normally service these every 5k like you recommended and flush every 10k with forte and use the forte injector cleaner every 5k as well 😀. i have no idea why any car company thinks oil lasts 20k 😆 maybe if you want it to last till 60k
