I believe during "shock expression", player that being attacked must press combination of buttons either to avoid, deflect or counter the super blast attack.
They go from "It's all over" to "I got yo ass now" real quick.

I think the idea of the meteos of the PSX port, are a way better (trunks slashing with his sword, super buu transforming into an candy and damaging you from inside... etc)
If this game had those PSX meteos, with its engine it would more than perfect...

When I was a kid I had access to an American Japanese modified Council. Imagine being an American kid with no history of how the Japanese language works trying to play a game like this where everything but a few words are in English. Other than the main characters everybody knew the other ones like Majin Buu the Deborah Frieza and the Ginyu Force were unheard of to me at the time. It was a fun game playing as a kid but it would have made things a hell of a lot easier if it wasn't English LOL

The game doesn't look bad, for the quantity of characters and the combat system that is decent. Although, the animation of the Super blast in Super Butouden 2 for SNES is still better. To Sum up, the animation of the face of the one who is getting hit is cheesy, first surprised and then smiling. Also Mr Satan looks like the funniest character to play though.

the game used the models of the game Ultimate Battle 22. At the time of the release of this game, Vegito had just appeared in the TV serie. So it was Gogeta from the movie "The Fusion" that was introduced.

Sebastianbe Release dates : Ultimate Battle 22 => July 28, 1995. Shin Butoden : November 17th, 1995. I think that Shin Butoden is better, because in addition to air battles and long stages, certain stages contain extended areas one fighter can knock the other into, as well as environmental obstacles. No need secret code to have 27 characters. There is the Mr Satan mode (very nice mode :D). And the super blasts don't like sphere balls. What's your arguments ? :P

Sebastianbe Thats right of course, but considering that the other DBZ game for PSOne are final bout and legends that means the bar is very low, buyu retsuden and the 3 butodens from sega génesis and SNES are way better than the 3 games from PSOne

I will never understand how the Sega Saturn got this awesome game and the ps1 got a port, horribly made as a mirror of this game in ultimate battle 22(27). Supposed to have been a superior console and yet got stuck with the worst of the 3 ps1 DB releases, yes, I would rather play japanese final bout. I really disliked ub 22.
Saturn had more power when the game is in 2d style, because initially Saturn was supposed to be a 2d machine. Playstation have more power on 3d games.

Funny how Ultimate Battle 22 is one of the graphically worst 2D games on the PSX, well Shin Butōden is one of the best on the Saturn. It's mostly because of the true translucency, though, as the Saturn is usually not capable of this due to its lack of a proper alpha channel.

Yo tengo una Sega Saturn japonesa, si lo encontrara igual compraría este título, me trae recuerdos...
Para mi gusto personal entre los cuatro dragon balls de esa epoca este fue el mejor sin duda.
Es cierto que el legend ofrecia mas personajes pero para ser 2d los personajes eran poco detallados.
El final bout tenia una velocidad de movimiento mala pocos personajes y muchos clonicos.
Y la version de ps1 de shin butoden....era para echarse a llorar xD
Leon Azure, Dragon Ball Legend en Saturn era superior al de PSx otra vez, jajaja
