How to write hits with cheap gear

- Are you convinced that creating exceptional music is only possible with expensive gear? My conversation with TV, film, and game composer, as well as pop songwriter, Tom Strahle, could change your perspective. He wrote a song for Justin Bieber using a $99 Squier! In this insightful interview, Tom takes us on a tour of his studio equipped with (relatively) budget-friendly instruments. More importantly, he delves into the fundamental reasons behind his choice of equipment, offering valuable insights that might challenge your assumptions about music production.

This guy has just demonstrated how to remain relevant, and in demand, as a session/score musician today. The guitar alone won’t cut it (most of the time). Great video. Thank you.
Thanks, Jim. I might change the description and thumbnail of this video to match your description.
Anyone else hearing Nicolas Cage’s voice?
People keep telling me that. 😂
I had a great time with you Jon. Thanks for the hang!
That screenshot though haha.
I've changed the thumbnail a few times since then. :) So glad you let me stop by. I know a ton of folks will be inspired by your perspective on life and music.
this guy is me, only 20 years from now
Hopefully sooner 👍

What a great time spent together! I'm a "film composer" in that I have 3 IMDb credits to my name. While I have as many (3) physical instruments (compared to my dozens of software instruments) I do appreciate the fact that the physical instruments are less susceptible to complete annihilation or incompatibility with future DAWs or OSs. Thanks for a fun and well-produced video!
I love my Legacy Special. Such a great and versatile guitar.
Great interview, really inspiring. I'm off to google guitar picks
Thanks! I trimmed it for time, but Tom mentioned a dozen times that he bought something from an Instagram ad. Keep an eye out!
What an inspiring video!
Thanks Jon and Tom for putting this together and sharing it with us.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video, very interesting 👍
Many thanks
This house has some crazy good lighting for videos
Except in the bathroom.
cool!
This video should be titled “watching a guy mess around with all his awesome instruments”
It so should.
what a infectious and creative guy!
most definitely!
Incredible!
The bass right at the start, sounded like Korn's bass style.
I hear that
what an amazing and inspirational guy !
I agree!
Great video!
Glad you enjoyed it
Fantastic interview 👍👍👍
Glad you enjoyed it
He needs a Portuguese guitar. Beautiful instrument
I'm on the hunt for one. It is a beautiful instrument.
what are those two mics?
The large diaphragm is a Microtech Gefell UM70 or UMT70, great mic, I have one. The small maybe a Shoeps orAKG.
@@jenssorquist172It's an AKG 451.
