When configuring the kart click plus to bring up the stats and configure as you wish based on stats.
Also noticed that no power items were thrown forward. Hold up then fire to throw forward.
Collecting all 10 coins gives a higher top speed in races.
You can also hold a banana shell or such out the back by holding the fire button to gain an additional power up slot. Then let go to use item.
