  • This will be our first winter with pigs. This could get interesting. LOL There are many things that we need to do before winter arrives....one of them was to build a pig pen for the winter months.

      @@LumnahAcres Thank you! Very true. Yeah, the winter months are definitely a lot more low key than when we are running around crazy busy with the garden…etc. For me the winter chores (even the easy ones) always seems more tedious because of the ice and snow that we have to deal with here in NH. Thanks Al! Great hearing from you!

    That’s how we did our pasture fencing…kind of. We used Paige wire fencing around perimeter and then used hog panel and metal t posts to section it off. Then we strung a hot wire using plastic insulators that clipped to the tposts. It’s great! Love the outtakes! 😂😂

    • @CelticRootsFarm

      Nice! Yeah, I was gonna use the plastic insulators. Now that you mention it… I might actually use those instead of poles. (LOL) I forgot I had an entire bag of them. Shoot! Oh well. Thanks for that… and for watching 👍 Hope you guys are doing well.

      Very kind of you to say… thank you! Obviously it doesn’t happen all the time, but if we can provide something that people can take away from our videos, that makes it worth it for us. Sometimes there is a fine line and we don’t want to come across as know it all’s either, because often times we are just figuring it out for ourselves. LOL
      In regards to the camera… I switch back and forth from a GoPro Hero7 Black to a Canon M50 with a Rode Video mic Pro. Still trying to learn more about manual settings on my camera. That is was makes a huge difference. The auto settings can work (sometimes) but if you are looking for a specific look, ya gotta learn all the settings, lighting, Fstops… the whole 9. NICE! Congrats! There are a few really good tutorial videos out there that have been helping me with the camera and settings. Three mere is definitely a learning curve. Talk to me if you decide to try and use it for Livestreams. It can be done…many say no.
      My biggest thing with the Sure mic is to actually remember to turn it on. Many mics instantly are active when plugged into the camera. Not this one. I recorded for over an hour a few times and then realized it wasn’t on. LOL
      BTW- this lens (link below of a review on it) is my next step. I’ve heard incredible things about it and pretty much everyone agrees that this lens catapults the M50 into a whole other realm of quality. Congrats my friend!

    Hi, question: I’m still new to the whole USDA thing. We are moving to Loudon soon and already purchased a bunch of great meat from local farmers that is not USDA. Is that a problem? Why are people so scared of non-usda, and should i be too? Why dont I care? Maybe I should. Thank you! Love your videos!

    • @CelticRootsFarm
      @CelticRootsFarm  Před 2 lety +2

      No you’re fine. The main difference for us anyway, is when it comes time to sell our meat at a farmers market…legally it has to be USDA. However, I can raise meat for ourself/family and it not be an issue. I can also sell meat directly to someone (if I came to your home or you came to mine) and it wouldn’t need to be USDA. So for us… that’s the main reason why we opted for USDA this time. Last year we didn’t. Hope that helps. Thanks so much for watching. We really appreciate the support! ❤️

    • @CelticRootsFarm
      @CelticRootsFarm  Před 2 lety

      Pigs are weird. They sometimes have an opposite reaction to getting shocked and will run forward instead of back. Once they learn what the electric fence is, then you don’t see that happen very often.
      Most people agree that when you are training a pig to an electric fence it is always a good idea to have that hog panel behind the electric fence for that reason. We have our two pigs inside the hog panel fence right now with no electric fence and they haven’t been a problem at all. 👍
