I understand the 'don't buy to support bad products' thing and you are right, but its also important to consider that if a line doesn't sell well, instead of sitting down and actually trying to make future figures from that series better they're more likely to just drop the IP entirely. One Piece figures don't sell well? No more One Pice figures, just like 10 years ago.
Its a shitty and unfair situation and lots of big fans of shows feel like they should buy characters they feel might not ever get figures again if the line isn't supported
That being said I still cancelled both my Kaido and Heat of Passion Guts preorders because they didn't look worth it, I'm just trying to explain why fans feel pressured to support mediocre releases
And I agree with you on the social media thing, its so hard to actually know if I should get anything based off posts online nowadays. It feels like the first Guts set the bar so, so low, that any improvement whatsoever to make the new one average got blown out of proportion

I ripped the coat and the figure is more enjoyable that way, lol.
It's kinda sad that almost every figure in the One Piece line needs to be modded/destroyed in any way to make them work.
My biggest problem with this figure is the elbow joints. They feel kinda soft, not super fragile but way too soft...
And the feet are also loose on mine. They are a problem if you are gonna keep the coat glued because it's way too heavy.

Its so weird to me how figuarts is doing soft goods for some of their figures, but not the ones that would actually benefit from it. Zoro, Kaido and law would have had a lot of their issues resolved by using cloth that would open up their articulation (n the case of zoro with his legs), or Kaido who cant stand on his own because his cape is way too heavy. I modded my zoro with a cloth robe and he feels fun to pose now but its the only time Im doing it b/c its redicuous I have to pay $20+ extra just to fix a figure that should have been good to go out of the box.

Social media has been great for figure collecting because it's super easy to see news and updates on figures coming out, being able to see everyones creativity with customs, kitbashes, 3d prints, people sharing sales and deals, seeing figure photography and finding good reviewers that are honest so you can discover good figures and avoid bad ones. I feel like that outweighs the braindead people lol

Love your reviews. You’re right that consumers standards should be higher. Idk if you saw some of the prototype shots of the new Ace figure they’re working on, but he looks pretty good. I wanna say stunning, but I’ve learned to keep expectations low with this line. But his articulation looked great, and he came with a lot of accessories which is great. Took a while, but they seem to have listened to some feedback and made improvements. Time will tell tho.

I feel like a costume element like the coat on this character really calls for the use of soft goods. It would be lighter, even with wire stitched into it, and cloth with wire would make for a much more dynamic presence. Maybe stitched to a plastic collar/fur piece that anchors it to the body

i think the social media aspect of figures is generally a good thing, it’s certainly destigmatized the whole concept of collecting figures. you’re always going to get overly-vocal zealots in an environment where anyone can speak their mind, so i wouldn’t let them ruin all the fun for you.

  • @Mattyboy-dn4oo

As is usually the case with social media, it goes both ways. This is still a relatively niche hobby, so it can be difficult to find other collectors irl except in specific spaces. Social media makes it easy to find people who share your interest and can give you a platform for expressing yourself and your figures. On the flip side, validation is a dangerous drug people seek on social media and they often place their value in what other people say on the internet or being a part of something rather than being confident in themselves. This can lead to some rash sayings and behaviors. It’s more of a personal problem but social media only further enhances it. With that said though it is hilarious seeing how strongly collectors on social media will defend an objectively bad product. The nostalgia’s blinding them.

QOTD: Regarding news, social media has certainly helped. For communication, it is average at best. Some people from certain companies aren’t too secretive which is fine but others are just not doing it right. Diamond Select has been among the better ones, showcasing concepts (Witch-King for example).
It has been a negative thing because you do have “stans” and they’ll buy a character without hesitation even if the figure sucks because they believe there won’t be another version of said character. That includes Black Series and Marvel Legends.
And then you have McFarlane liking all positives, avoiding decent feedback or criticism and him posting the weirdest preview of figures that are getting worse and worse.

I'd say it's probably been more bad than good as of late. So many collectors think the big companie's their best friend and they can do no wrong when it's like 'bruh, all they want is your money'. Now we got companies using those same collectors to shill their unfinished products and justify their laziness and bad decisions.

I understand the gripes people have with this figure. But as someone who loves the character and was excited with this figure, I really don't mind all the negatives. The people's concerns are valid, but while I am usually picky with toys, I am fine with this one.
Law doesn't really lean forward so I have no issues with the lack of ab articulation. His fighting style and poses hardly require him to do so. This is one of the few cases that I am fine with this due to how clean Law looks. The coat is indeed a hassle when displaying it, but I think I prefer this over soft goods coat because it is not gonna look the same. Even if someone makes a highly accurate soft goods coat with wires, I don't want to rip the plastic coat off and will only avail one if there is a surefire way of removing the plastic peg without destroying it. (I saw someone suggest that you can heat the glue on the peg to safely remove it but it is not guaranteed.) I wish it is removable, but still I don't mind having it stuck on him.
Overall, the figure still looks great on its own and alongside Luffy, and he is still fun to pose due to the variety of faces and hands. Not to mention I only got him for $60 due to discount vouchers. I only wish they release a topless Zoro with articulated skirt like the one he has in the Variable Action Heroes figure because the issues with the SHF Zoro are impossible for me to ignore.

I loved Anthony's point on these figures doing dynamic poses, when they actually can't. 7:40 he's just hanging upside down, you could do that with a statue lol.
I know nothing about One Piece, so I don't know if this guy is doing body contortions compared to somebody like Spider-Man, but he still has tons of articulation, but most of them have terrible range.
There's a lot of reviewers who claim more articulation is *always* better. Like Renew Your Vows having toe joints, that good and all but you need good hip and ankle range to make the toe useful. You want Spidey in a super deep crouch? Too bad, he can barely look up and his legs can't go forward enough. If a Spider-Man figure can't look up, can't do the splits, and can't kick forward at least 90°, then it's useless for me (unless it's a gimmick toy with low articulation on purpose)

    • @rhanjoncarpio7875
      @rhanjoncarpio7875 Před 21 dnem +1

As a fan of One Piece and Law, I can confirm that he is mostly just standing straight. He fights calmly from afar, his body remains straight even in closer fights, and he also teleports himself or other objects around. I understand the complaints, but the reason that I don't mind the lack of ab articulation is because Law's poses and fighting style doesn't require him to do dynamic poses. Giving him more ab articulation would be great but I don't see myself using it that much, so I am okay with his shirt looking clean instead.

@@fbijeffrey6547 the recent SF6 figuarts are actually repaints of the figuarts from SF5, which he has indeed reviewed :)

OK how is SHF nailing the Naruto line while failing the One Piece line

I think the issue is, people are just happy to have something. Also, many of the collectors I see on CZcams don't even have their figures in dynamic poses, many are in just in a neutral pose. In Laws case, many will just put him on a stand or tacky puddy under his feet and call it a day.

I love One Piece. Too bad the figures are like the worst things ever.

    You're absolutely right
It's becoming harder and harder to justify Bandai's releases nowadays
Half of their releases are P-Bandai and they come with not-great articulation and/or qc issues, plus they wanna charge 90+- bucks for back-of-the-shelf characters, it's bonkers
At least in the Dragon Ball line, we are now getting exclusives no one asked for this year, meanwhile 3rd parties are releasing 3.0 Z Broly, shirtless 3.0 Trunks, Kid Buu and while Demoniacal is not releasing anything Goku 3.0 and Xeno are still darn cheap and very decent figures for their price
I was a purist until last year when I realized Bandai is just not satisfying the demand well, it's like they prefer to rerelease repainted old molds as much as they can
Like dude, wdym a repainted Goku ASROE with a bad looking faceplate is this year's exclusive? Demoniacal's still a better choice, what are they thinking
