      I worked in rescue, was a veterinary technician, groomer, worked in a Humane Society, too as a veterinary technician. They had us work in every area though in case they needed help in any of those areas at any point in time, plus I loved working with the animals up front in adoption, and it got me out of strays, and vaccinations and medical, for a few hours. It was hard to see some of these dogs 🐕 that couldn't handle being in kennels day in and out, some were so scared, and traumatized 😢 😞.

    • @LittleGhost_16
      @LittleGhost_16 Před rokem +1

      I volunteer at an animal shelter, and you’re right. People who surrender animals have no clue how stressful it is for the animal. Since I mostly work with the cats, I’ve seen a lot of cats after they’ve been surrendered. To anyone outside, they would probably think the cat is aggressive, when in reality their scared because they’re in a stressful situation and don’t know what’s going on We have to keep them in the back room kennels until they calm down and acclimate to the environment. This can take anywhere from a couple days to a couple weeks depending on age and how long the cat was with the owner. A fifteen year old cat who has been with its owner for years will take longer to acclimate than a six month old kitten who has been with its owner for a few months.

    • @pegasusa1609
      @pegasusa1609 Před rokem +1

      I know that situation very well, I was in rescue, worked as a veterinary technician for 16 years, and worked at the Humane Society of Mississippi. Then moved back to my home state and was a veterinary technician for 2 more years, until the last vet I worked for had to retire and I decided to myself myself due to back issues. This was my passion, my life and I still try to save, rescue when I can. I'm a big pit bull advocate, and all animal savior. These animals and dogs mean more to me than life itself for they have saved me too, over the years, All my life! People, most people, don't get dogs, can't read them or don't understand them why they can't trust, what they have been through. It's our responsibility to make sure they understand that we are there for them, give them love and understanding for the heartache they must have been through and change that for them and show them there's people who really care, and all people aren't BAD. HOPEFULLY one day our next generation will be more loving than ours has been and we won't need rescue anymore 😢😢

    • @alyssaford5820
      @alyssaford5820 Před rokem +10

      People are the ones that are to learn from this, not shelters or rescues. They are underfunded and overpopulated. When people start spaying and neutering their pets and socializing and training them properly, then we can tell shelters that they need to fix what they’re doing. Just like Tia stated at the end of this video, no shelter worker likes to euthanize dogs. The epidemic of homeless animals starts with the people purchasing them from backyard breeders for their kids for Christmas just to turn around and throw them outside and say hi to them once a day and never give them vet care. As sad as it is, and how much it sucks, euthanasia serves a purpose.

    • @maargenbx1454
      @maargenbx1454 Před rokem +1

      @@alyssaford5820 As long as shelters exist, they need to be able to accurately assess dogs, unless shelter workers think their job is to find reasons to kill dogs. If that’s the case then own it. If they want to serve dogs then they need to learn how to do it well.
      I adopted my dog from a shelter. They told me I should never bring my dog to a dog run because he’s dog aggressive. I took him anyway because I was raised first by a GSD then a Doberman, so I’m not afraid of big dogs. I immediately got insurance in case he bites someone then I got a dog trainer.
      Within a few visits the trainer assessed that my dog isn’t aggressive towards anything on this planet - not people, not other dogs, not other animals…he doesn’t even return aggression when other dogs growl or snarl at him, if they’re small dogs he ignores them, if they’re big dogs he stares them down while the other owner gets their dog under control. It’s been 5 and a half years and my dog has been in the local dog run twice a day every single day. This is NYC so the run is pretty busy - never had an issue with him. He’s the calmest dog in the neighborhood, with the sweetest disposition. When the park is mostly empty I let him roam off leash because he never runs up to people or other dogs.
      My family actually picked this dog because he was the calmest dog in the shelter, so why I was told he was dog aggressive I’ll ever know. At the shelter I was told that my dog fits the profile of dogs that get put down most often: he’s a pit bull, he wasn’t a puppy (he was between 1-3 years old when I adopted him) and he’s black. To those three strikes that he didn’t deserve they added another that he also didn’t deserve. What would have happened if I was someone who couldn’t afford insurance so wanted to avoid any liability? What if I was intimidated by pit bulls? What if I wanted a dog in order to join the neighborhood dog community? Many people would have passed over this dog and he could have been killed, just as many fine dogs get killed in shelters every day.
      A bad assessment can cost a good dog it’s life. To say that shelters shouldn’t have to learn to accurately evaluate dogs is ridiculous.

      Out of curiosity did your Shepherd-Wolf come from southern Virginia or North Carolina around 2014? A guy with a bunch of exotics (bears, a cougar, lion, chimp) was breeding wolf dogs and did have connections to a dog fighting and drug ring. He released all his animals two days before a planned raid; the lion and chimp were found, the cougar was sadly shot and only 3 wolf dogs out of what might have been 12 (going by the cages and collars) were recovered. Tia and her crew are like the🐐🐐 of all dogs it's crazy how easy they just know and do so much for these dogs. They almost put down a normal puppy bc he was scared of the shelters lack of knowledge and that's sad

    I got my lab as a rescue in 2019. She charged the gate of her "cell' barking and spitting. I walked away and came back around, same response. 3rd time she just sat down at the gate and I took her for a walk. I dont think her prior owners were too nice to her, and she was very scared and muley as a result. She is a lovely and happy girl now and I am glad I took the chance on her.

    Love this. We rescued an 18 year old cat from the shelter. Even though she only lived 4 months with us, we did everything possible to make her life amazing. People who just dumb their docs, are the worst. 😊

    The worst thing you can do is to talk to a scared, excited dog in a high-pitched squeaking voice. It heightens their fear and excitement.

    A beautiful hybrid. Although somewhat small for this breed. A friend had a huskie/wolf hybrid who weighed 185 lbs. He could stand on my 6'2" husband with his paws on either side of his shoulders & look him in the eye. He was so cool. People were intimidated by him because of this. He never understood the reaction he evoked. He couldn't bark, he talked. People would jump back when he did, thinking he was getting aggresive. Poor dog. RIP Thor. I will always love you my boy!
