- Mushrooms are booming, but it hasn't always been that way. Just a few short decades ago, most people had probably never even heard about many of the "exotic" mushrooms which are becoming so popular today. But that didn't stop the Garrone family from starting the now iconic California based mushroom farm known as Far West Fungi.
Today, they are growing 35,000 lbs of fresh exotic mushrooms every week, and showing the world what mushrooms are capable of through their unique mushroom store and eatery.
In this episode of The Mushroom Show, we go on a tour of their Moss Landing farm and their Santa Cruz mushroom store to learn what it's all about.
We'll also be digging into functional mushrooms and the science of longevity, with a new paper outlining the best research on whether or not mushrooms can help us live longer.

The idea of increasing longevity is interesting, quality of that longevity is of great interest.
Living past 60 with bad joints, arteries, heart and brain malfunctions is not an ideal goal. A follow up show on the quality of life would be helpful. I’ve been taking lions mane for cognition while being a caretaker for an elderly family member that’s healthy but is fading brings that to the forefront.

6:37 Not gonna lie, he's going to regret building a humidified grow room in a space with an exposed wooden ceiling and wood/metal shelves. The rot and corrosion is going to be terrible if he doesn't isolate everything that can rot away from the growing space.
Hey I have a question; I’m new to mushroom growing and I was wondering if I could grow the following mushrooms with the bucket method: chaga, lions mane, maitake, shiitake, reishi, turkey tai? Or what would be optimal for them?

I was speaking of eating culinary mushrooms, I do like psychedelic ones every once in a while, but they never tasted very good at all.

The leading mushroom scientist in the world Paul Stamets says always cook your mushrooms. I took his liquid mushrooms when I had a Big cancerous tumor in my esophagus couldn't eat anything larger than a pea for a long time....5 years later one the 40% that make it that far. As for psilocybin mushrooms Paul always says Nature provides I don't. He sells a seven mushroom blend would be great for longevity, FDA approved don't buy cheap mushroom supplements who know where they come from.

His vaccination that he had a week before causing a CVST, as it presented very much like that when I got home from work and found him in his crib.
Still at 19 years old He has some low level cognitive effects and challenges from the injury, although he lives a normal life plays sports etc. school was too hard and he dropped out, confidence has dropped as his friends are all going to the next stage of their life and he doesn’t know what he’s capable of or where his potential lies coz of his cognitive challenges. And some low muscle tone on the right arm hand and foot.
I’m considering psilocybin or lions mane for him to try.
What would be recommended?
We now live in Spain, so could prob get supply from Holland if not here.
He doesn’t like mushrooms in food, once he told me his tongue gets itchy so I stopped giving him mushrooms in food. I’m not sure if he said that so I would stop cooking mushrooms or if he actually had an itchy tongue. Kids 😅
But if he does have an intolerance or allergy to food mushrooms … could this be a potential problem with Lions Man and Psilocybin ?
