    The Arabian Garlic sauce - Toum is absolutely delicious and a must with your Middle eastern spread. Especially with Shawarma or Fried chicken. Toum, the word actually means Garlic! But the sauce is called Toum as well. Although it is an emulsified sauce like Mayo, You can not make it by mixing garlic with Mayo.
    Here, we take a look at how to make it easily at home. This recipe DOES take some practice, but if you follow this garlic sauce recipe video, you will be making delicious toum at home! Here, we use a blender to make this awesome sauce.

      It's not adding too much oil, it's adding the oil too fast not allowing for the blend to emulsify, slowly. This demonstration was unfortunately improperly done.

    Tried it and it was delicious!! Initially made the mistake of adding too much garlic, then to neutralise the taste added 2 more egg whites. But it ended up being too watery after adding ice water. So made another new emulsion and added the previous watery toum and alas! Got perfect fluffy toum! It became even more firm and fluffy after refrigerating. THANK YOU!

I figured I spend WAY too much on schwarma takeout when a lot of the time all I really want is something with this sauce...now I can make it at home. Thanks... As with any sauce anything can be thinned out; either by adding ice cold water at the end or oil. Just remember that you can always add more but you can't take it back out. Do it slowly and keep tasting until you get to the consistency you want.

    in my city (Gaza) they use Tahini sauce with garlic added to it, much healthier since there isn't a drop of oil in it, just Tahini, water, salt, lemon or lime, and garlic .... you can add some type of pickled green pepper sauce to it but that decreases its shelf life, plus that you can make another hot sauce on the side and control the spiciness/heat you want on your sandwich.

      Noor Noor
      Thank you so much for this information!
      I just made this according to your instruction s and it is fabulous and so easy. I crushed/smashed the garlic chopped finely then the Helmand’s mayo added Lowery’s garlic powder and dried parsley and a splash of milk and blended blended with a fork in the serving dish. It is so good with my Gordon fish sticks , I’m under the weather and weirdly it’s the only thing I can stomach with this garlic mayo sauce . Thank you once again for sharing.

    Questions?
    1) How long can you store it for
    2) How much oil do we add to immersing process
    3) Any way we can cut it with anything else to make it a bit less strong

    • @Recipesaresimple
      @Recipesaresimple  Před 4 lety +5

      3 weeks if stored properly
      1 cup / 240 mls
      The sharpness reduces after chilling overnight. Else reduce garlic by a little. Use fresh garlic.

    Nice video .. as an Arab and I have been eating garlic sauce all my life I tell you this is good way to do it .. there is a much harder way using corn starch but I do it like you..
    Note: if you oil in faster way than in the video it could split and cant be fixed .. everything goes to waste. It happened to me several times

      @Recipesaresimple  Před 5 lety +1

      Thanks so much for that. Ive tried all the other methods too including the corn starch method. This one ,however has always given the best final product.
      And wish people would understand that it yields a jar of the sauce to be used at discretion.😀

I am giving you 100%guarantee that this recipe is exactly the same garlic sauce that you would find in any middle east resturant... Just that for me, as i had to use it at once, i put only one garlic piece and three egg whites. It worked perfectly to get that foamy texture. You keep an eye on yours.
