What never ceases to amaze me, is that somebody first purchased that land, then applied to build a house on that spot, got the permission, then has had the house build at these exposed areas and everybody went along like saying: *”yep, perfect spot to build a house”*

There has to be a really good story behind the answer to everyone's questions here about "why do people build things like houses, foolishly so close to the oceans edge?!" I imagine first of all it's meant to make you question: the ultimate WHY!? Overall IT'S A GREAT VIDEO! Thanks so much for posting! These are some interesting shots. Very awesome to take in how much of the world I have not seen up close and personal. I love living on the East coast though. There's still so much to learn here, I haven't tried, I haven't traveled and seen! This is a great insight to the unknown. I love it!

As an FYI the homes in Pacifica were built away from the beach. They had a ton of room away from the beach or cliff when they were built but decades of terrible storms and sea level rise lead to the erosion of the cliff face. I know since I live there.

It appears that in a number of cases where there are sea walls, only the wave tops made it beyond that barrier and only because of momentum did it keep going in the original direction of the wave. What might be tried in such circumstances is to use a deflector on top of the sea walls to redirect the water away from the wall to keep it from splashing over and to use the direction reversal to help cancel some of the wave energy. it's worth a try.

A lot of old people have said that they had never seen something like that before and road and structures on the sea that were built more than 100 years ago, were destroyed for the first time.

The sea was angry that day my friends; like an old man trying to send back soup in a deli.

The number 1 scene was at Pacifica, California. The San Andreas Fault runs just inland there and goes into the ocean to cross the Golden Gate just north of there. The building pictured is gone now, but it was once 50 meters from the edge. The ground there is sandstone, formed the last time that area was below the sea. It was pushed up by the movement along the fault and now the sea is taking it back.
