Greg Hardy's "USADA Approved" Moment
Vložit
- čas přidán 1. 05. 2022
- In 2019, former UFC Heavyweight Greg Hardy was allowed to use an inhaler during his fight against Ben Sosoli. This mistake left UFC officials and commentators in disbelief. Hardy thought the inhaler was approved for use during fights, but the inhaler was only approved for use while training. Hardy's win would be overturned to a no-contest just hours after the fight. #greghardy #danawhite #shorts #ufc

@markcurry3083 You're clueless.... the inhaler doesn't make a person who's out of breath... not out of breath. As somebody with asthma, I can say that an inhaler is typically not going to give somebody an advantage whatsoever. Typical asthma is not a problem with how your lungs are working, but rather with how muscles in your throat are working. These muscles tend to involuntarily tense up at times in people with asthma. This tensing up of the muscles causes obvious airflow reduction and muscle fatigue because of the deprivation of oxygen. What emergency inhalers do is help to relax these muscles and open the airway back up, which will typically lead to a return in normal airflow. As somebody who has had to experience this countless times, it does not lead to and advantageous supply of air, rather a fairly normal supply. On top of this, the inhalation of medicine such as Albuterol Sulfate, which is a common medicine for inhalers, can cause dizziness and coughing, especially in a setting like this. However, I could see why stuff like this might be banned in the corner. One example could be because somebody might find a way to replace the contents of the inhaler with an actual performance enhancing drug. I’m not here to argue or anything of the sort, just thought I might share my thoughts on this. Have a great day everybody.
Inhalers are prohibited because they contain an active ingredient known as vilanterol.
According to USADA, it is a form of Beta-2 agonists which is a prohibited substance (even by inhalation).
Beta-2 agonists are prohibited because they offer potential unfair advantages such as (1) Short-term performance enhancement by increasing plasma volume levels, and (2) Masked use of another prohibited substance…
A TUE (therapeutic use exemption) is exemption for an athlete to use a prohibited substance during the sport. This is for therapeutic purposes only and requires prior doctor approval. Hardy did not seek approval prior to the fight to use his inhaler.
The commission is very strict on the use of external products during sports competition. Even a Gatorade can not be ingested by an athlete during the event in case it has been tampered with.

There’s only so much bronchodilation that can take place lol as an asthmatic athlete I totally agree.
But Even if you have asthma, Wouldn’t puffing on an inhaler between every round give you an unfair endurance advantage? I’m not a doctor.
@@mamaj3016 only if u wear a guy without needing one because it opens up your air wears in saying that asthmatics need to be able to breath
@@mamaj3016 no not at all that’s why I’m saying it doesn’t do anything for someone who doesn’t need it and doesn’t give the other person an advantage, it just opens the airways in an asthmatic to 100% like in healthy individuals so it doesn’t give them an advantage just the normal capacity of a healthy individual
Don’t fight then
Man the lawsuit is gonna be fire when someone dies.
"Dang how could we have known this would've happened? Such a good kid"
Not really. The rules are managed by government agencies in each state not the UFC. Those lawsuits usually don't go great
