Porsche works driver Neel Jani lapped the 7.004 kilometre long Belgian Grand Prix Circuit in the Ardennes mountains in 1:41.770 minutes. The 34 year old Swiss has beaten the previous record by 0.783 seconds that was set by Lewis Hamilton (GB) at the wheel of a Mercedes F1 W07 Hybrid. Hamilton’s lap of 1:42.553 minutes dates back to August 26 in 2017 and secured him pole position for last year’s F1 race. Jani achieved a top speed of 359 km/h and an average speed of 245.61 km/h on his record lap that he started at 10:23 hrs. Ambient temperature was 11° Celsius, track temperature was 13° Celsius.
Fritz Enzinger, Vice President LMP1: “This was an absolute fantastic lap - an outstanding drivers’ performance from Neel and the result of great engineering. Today’s track record impressively proves the ultimate performance of the most innovative race car of its time. Our target was to show what the Porsche 919 Hybrid is able to do when we loosen the restrictions that normally come from the regulations.”
Team Principal Andreas Seidl: “This additional success is the result of the LMP team’s hard work and a proud day for the engineers. One can only congratulate Neel and the entire crew for achieving it. All six 2017 LMP1 drivers contributed to the project. It was our target to show the Porsche 919 Hybrid’s abilities when we ease the restrictions that came from the World Endurance Championship regulations.”
With the 919 Hybrid, Porsche has won the Le Mans 24-Hours from 2015 to 2017 three times in a row as well as the world champion titles for both, manufacturers and drivers, in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) during the same years.
Neel Jani: “The 919 Evo is brutally impressive. It is definitely the fastest car I ever drove. The grip level is at a fully new dimension for me, I couldn’t imagine this amount beforehand. The speed on which everything happens on a single lap with the 919 Evo is that fast that the demand on reaction speed is very different to what I was used to in the WEC. We are not only faster than the F1 pole from 2017. Today’s lap was twelve seconds faster compared to our WEC pole position from last year! We have had three very intense days at Spa. Today I knew on the very first lap in the morning that the car’s performance was super. The race engineers did a great job setting up the car and the Michelin tyres are sensational. A big thank you to Porsche for this experience.”

1 second a lap improvement is MASSIVE ! 10 ... is INSANE ! It would be incredibly difficult for a driver to get his head ready for that.
Yeah this car depends on the driver's physical limit.
The Nordschleife lap for example, could be sub 5mins (20s faster) but the driver could not handle it.
This without being compliant to regulations, imagine a F1 car without some engine/aero bans
Faster than a 2017* F1car. The spa lap record was retaken by the 2018 mercedes and ferrari. Then rearranged again by the w11.
Lap not even done in Free Practice 1 conditions (track was green and not in qualifying conditions)
If it was done in Q3 conditions while being driven by 7 WC level driver, logic dictates that the 919 Evo would probably blast even the W11 by more than a second of margin.
@@arkeusalexander9054919 Evo had 3 days of track time, F1 doesn't even have 1 full day for their quali. Not to mention that Porsche used bespoke time trial tyres while F1 uses tyres that needs to actually race for more than 1 lap lol. There's no excuse for a car with no regulation getting beaten by fully regulated 2018 F1 cars, let alone being even close to the W11😂
@@ihsanjayadi88 What do you mean by there is no excuse? By the time it was made they broke spa record which is what they aimed for. So why making the car even faster lol?
If they wanted to make it faster, lighter, with more downforce to beat the W11 they technically could as you know it they were not restricted by any regulation. So clapping the W11 is not even a challenge under those conditions. Meaning if a 919 Evo2 was made in 2021 to brake the record again there would not be anything to prevent Porsche from doing so, as there is nothing restricting the car from going faster with more advanced aero, better tyres and less weight.
So I don't know what you are arguing for 🤡

when i hear the engine , it sounds like the drivebywire throttle has a different speed limiter for each curve exit and straightway effective range. You can "hear" the closed loop programing coding
It´s really obvious on 8:40, that perfect linear decceleration at a rigid x% throttle position until the breaks ....nowadays it´s easy just by extrapolating by drag, inertia and power output coefxx alone

@@Jesko. f1 are cars with restrictions in their assembly, the 919 evo is a prototype without restrictions, that is, Porsche does what it wants with the car, now imagine an f1 without restrictions how fast it would be

It does however give insight IF the regs were lifted. Imagine seeing that race for 24 hours straight.
it would depent on the course. nordschleife for example is impossible. timo bernhard who drove it at the nordschleife said it was incredibly difficult to stay focused because of the sheer speed. a normal stint is out of human capabilities ( ofc you could move the car like a snail, but then you could not race at all) in terms of mental capacity. its like moving a jet around a circuit, eventually it ends bad.
