I love the Eurovision bubble. I know there's certainly a lot of people here in Australia that mock Eurovision and think it's cheesy, but I love cheese. I need cheese. Sometimes the news gets so depressing and then you go listen to some Eurovision song and for that 3 minutes you're transported to the land of Love Love Peace Peace (and a man in a hamster wheel), and that's good. It levels you out so you can keep going.

France really deserved more , the song is amazing , the message as well , and he improved so much his vocals since Destination Eurovision. I think 16th place was a bit underrated and they deserved to be in the top 10 at least.

    • @dundaetf83
      @dundaetf83 Před 4 lety

France song is objectivly very very good, no doubt about it. But if only they sent another artist which much better vocals, despite that Billan Hassani is female trapped into man's body, his vocals are terrible, plus he pushed too much those tollerance, diversity, respect things which of course the audience didnt like it and considered too pushy with a great reson. Bilal tried to do something similar as Bojana Stamenov with Serbia did at 2015. but he obviously overreacted too too much, after all Serbia did it very discretly and more powerful

    • @dundaetf83
      @dundaetf83 Před 4 lety

They didnt deserve at all. If only they had chose staging and better artist then we could have discussed about that

    • @JakesFaceReacts
      @JakesFaceReacts  Před 4 lety +1

Bianca Andreea Okay. Here’s my thought process. I preferred his staging in DE to the staging at Eurovision. It told his story through pictures in the back. The vocals were better in Eurovision than in DE, but they didn’t lower the key like they needed to. He couldn’t ever truly deliver that climax towards the end, and lowering the key even by a half step could’ve made it much easier for him to belt. He will have a huge career regardless.💚✌️

    Glad you're back, Jake!
    Here we go...
    Malta - Solid opener.
Albania - Jonida just sold it.
Czechia - They were just having fun. Totally deserved to be in the final
    Germany...SISTER!
    Russia - Sergey didn’t disappoint
Denmark grew on me too. Good performance
San Marino - so happy Serhat qualified. It was way better than the semi.
North Macedonia - Tamara owned the stage.
    Sweden - Mamas!!!
Slovenia - Zala and Gašper didn’t disappoint.
    Cyprus - Yes Tamta!
Netherlands - Total perfection. His performance made me bawl like a baby.
Greece - Katerine was vocally on point and her staging was quirky and so much fun
    Israel - very emotional.
Norway - definitely deserving of their top 10 finish.
UK - Great artist, he’s got a very promising future. Boring and uninspired staging. Lastly, their last place didn’t come because of Brexit...
    Iceland - HATRIÐ MUN SIGRA!
Estonia - Meh. Better than the semi but still meh.
Belarus - Jake’s look of disapproval plus some confusion is basically how I feel about this song.
Azerbaijan - I have no idea what made the Azeri delegation come up with this staging but I loved it!
France - Bilal is a roi!
    Italy - This was amazing
Serbia - Oddly enough, this felt even more polished than in the semi. Hvala Srbija!
    Switzerland - Meh...
    Australia - So freaking amazing!
Spain - Interesting staging. Good song.
I agree with you Jake, Eurovision is an escape from everything and something you can just delve into and forget all your troubles and get to know people that share this love for the contest.
Oh Belarus...y’all really screwed things up this year. Besides the juror(s) releasing their voting results, the aggregated results - or the results that were presented, were given in the wrong order! That's why we had the EBU release revised results a few days later, and thats why we had countries shift places. It was a big mess...

The Eurovision Song Contest for me is all about diversity and how all those countries can celebrate peacefully together in difference to the real world. You're absolutely right saying that it's a sort of an escape.
Concerning the Belarusian jury. Someone leaked its voting results at the first semifinal. According to the rules a jury or a jury result must be disqualified if results are published early or the votes of the single jurors were agreed between the jurors (i.e. Georgia in de GF 2014). It's problematic to disqualify a country if you can't prove that this was done by an outside influence.
In this case (like it's done for the public vote of San Marino) the results of 5 random juries were put together to make a jury result for Belarus. The problem was that someone from the EBU did an upside down count (the country with the highest points got the 12 points also.. instead of realizing that these are places and the country with the least number of points gets the 12 points also...).
This also happened to single jurors from other countries.
If you want to correct results, you have to be consequent and change all mistakes, but this was only done for the Belarusian jury. Otherwise Lithuania would have qualified for the final instead of Denmark.

I now wonder how much different countries' votes are affected by their commentators! In Sweden we have a lovely and SUPER FUNNY commentator, that is not afraid to make some jokes. He obviously gives a short back story for all the songs.
That being said, I really didn't like Israel this year and was surprised at you saying you loved it. And then I remembered our commentator described his song as him singing about how he was finally famous. And then, at the end of the performance our commentator noted: "oh look, he just moved HIMSELF to tears by his own singing". It was funny, but that also gives a lesser image of him in Sweden I guess. I never even considered that maybe he was kinda good....

I would have agreed with you but removing a jury completely unbalances things away from the juries especially in a situation like this year when five juries vote. The algorithm that calculates disqualified jury votes does so based on how the juries in the neighbouring countries to the one with the disqualified jury voted so they aren't pulling it out of their ass here. It also ensures that a country isn't penalised for what another country's jury did.

Again thanks for your honest reaction to the grand final jake! Here is my top 26 from the grand final.
26: France. A great message to see at eurovision. I find the song quite bland and I feel at times he overpushed his voice.
25: Greece. Don't really get the hype on this one. It's creative staging but it looks like a yoghurt commercial. The song is ok, I don't like her voice. One of those nasaly sounds.
24: Germany. I don't think this is as bad as people think. I like the pre-chorus where the pace quickens up and they can both sing. The song and staging both fell short though.
23: United Kingdom. I felt Michael tried to oversell it and the song took an inexpensive Gospel turn at the end. Not surprised it came last.
22: North Macedonia. Congratulations to her on winning the jury vote. I love the instrumentals on the second chorus. This is where the song comes alive. I don't connect with this emotionally. She's a powerful singer singing a decent song.
21: Azerbaijan. Out of all the bops at eurovision this one impressed me the least. The staging is cool but why!?!? The song has far too much backing track and during the chorus I'm actually wondering how much chingiz is actually singing. The chorus sounds the exact same when he's doing his long note.
20: Serbia. Incredible vocalist. The verses are uninterested like so many, pre-chorus builds into explosive chorus. It's a good balkan ballad but we'll probably here it again next year.
19: Israel. Better than toy hahaha. His voice is brilliant and the performance is powerful. Not the most original song but they staged it well.
18: Denmark. Charming entry. They all looked so happy and the backing vocalists did a great job with leonora. I enjoyed the staging, pleasantly surprised.
17: Belarus. She's a modern day popstar. Not the best vocalist but a great performance and I love the song. 16 as well. On Belarus, I don't think it's fair to disqualify them, the singers and public don't deserve it. They should just be banned from jury vote next year and lose their voice.
16: San Marino. Who cares about the vocals. This is fun. The backing vocalists stole the show. I loved the all white theme. Wouldn't mind if San Marino do this every year.
15: Malta. She did great vocally but she looked uncomfortable with some of the dancing. The backing vocalists really didn't add anything. Probably one of the best verses and pre-chorus of the competition.
14: Czech Republic. Fun, retro pop. The staging is great. They're all so enthusiastic and the song is great until after the second chorus and this is the part they showed in the recaps. Couldve cost them.
13: Spain. I don't mind the staging. It reminds me of holidays in Spain. They're all so enthusiastic. His live vocals have really improved and I just love the Spanish language.
12: Estonia. This is so underappreciated. Victor starts singing country, then has to drop all the way down to his chest voice and all the way up to his head voice. He sounded great in the final, the song has it all and it's creative staging. Don't get the hate around it.
11: Norway. Encapsulates eurovision. If you hadn't heard the entries before the show this would have been unbelievable I'm sure. By the time the grand final came I wasn't as excited. They're all good vocally and the song has a great drop at the chorus. Enjoyed the staging as well. Sami singer is the best!
10: Switzerland. This would be so much higher if the song showed off his vocals more. The verses are fine but the song comes alive during the chorus. The pause on the final chorus is genius as well.
9: Slovenia. Love the simplicity and innocence of this. One of the purest voices in the contest. The staging was all it needed to be. A really chilled entry that worked for me.
8- Iceland. Hard to comment on Iceland here. The staging is unbelievable, their performance is so convincing, the song is actually quite good when you break it down and enjoyable to listen to.
7: Albania. She did improve so much vocally. Love her dress and the staging is perfect. The backing vocalists are exceptional as well and there are some haunting and truly captivating moments here.
6: Russia. As expected, excellent staging from Russia and Sergey delivered a flawless vocal. Another third place for him and I'm not complaining.
5: Australia. What a song. The best staging in modern eurovision and the song is so quirky and addictive. It's a cross between Kate Bush and Glinda from Wicked!
4: Italy. Mahmood brought rnb to eurovision and it worked. He is surprisingly a great vocalist, the song is brilliant and the flow is amazing.
3: The Netherlands. Congratulations to Duncan. It looks we're off to Rotterdam. He delivered a perfect vocal in the final and the song is beautifully written. You should be so, so proud.
2: Cyprus. Ok this is better than fuego. People were criticising her vocal, she sounded fine to me. The song just builds from the verses to the pre-chorus and then the explosion into the chorus. Perfection. Cyprus can send dance tunes every year. They clearly know what they're doing!
1: SWEDEN! Can we please give John some credit! The mamas are incredible but so is he. The song is amazing. I love the black and yellow staging and the message was overlooked I thought. What a performance yet again by Sweden. And btw I'm sick of people saying Sweden just do the same thing every year with a polished male singer. What rubbish! Last year they brought electro pop and this year they brought Gospel! I must love Gospel because Cesar Sampson was my winner last year. Keep it up Sweden and well done!

Stephen Moore I loved reading all of your thoughts. On Sweden...I love what they send each year. John is a terrific vocalist who brought gospel to Eurovision, and everyone knows I love gospel. I think maybe other countries see Sweden as a legitimate threat every year, so it is easy to hate on them. 💚✌️

@@JakesFaceReacts Thanks jake that's great to hear. Yes I love Swedens entries virtually every year. People are definitely jealous of their success in my opinion.
