Arcade Game: Ms. Pac-Man (1981 Midway)

- A very popular legendary maze game sequel to Pac-Man. The first proper sequel to Namco's legendary pill eating maze game, players must once again run around a number of mazes, eating all of the pills that are scattered throughout. The ever-present ghosts (Blinky, Pinky, Inky and Sue) return to hamper the player's progress. The infamous 'Power Pills' are also present and correct, with four appearing in each maze.
For the first time in video-game history, the game's lead character was female. Ms. Pac-Man is almost identical to the original character with two main differences; she wears a bow in her 'hair', and is also wearing lipstick.
Another change from the original is that the bonus fruit items are no longer static but now move randomly around the mazes.
Namco introduced a number of changes and enhancements over the original game. The first difference is in the main character.
Ms Pac-Man features 4 different maze layouts, which alternate every 2 to 4 screens :
The 1st maze is only encountered in Rounds 1 and 2, and has 220 dots and 4 Power Pills. There are 2 sets of tunnels in this maze equidistant from the center of the maze. You must clear this maze 2 times before moving on to the next maze.
The 2nd maze is only encountered in Rounds 3, 4, and 5, and has 240 dots and 4 Power Pills. There are 2 sets of tunnels in this maze; one set in the lower half, and the other set at the very top. You must clear this maze 3 times before moving on to the next maze.
The 3rd maze is first encountered in Round 6 and has 238 dots and 4 Power Pills. Unlike all other mazes, there is only 1 set of tunnels in this maze, slightly above the center of the board. You must clear this maze 4 times before moving on to the next maze.
The 4rth and final unique maze is first encountered in Round 10 and has 234 dots and 4 Power Pills. There are 2 sets of tunnels in this maze, directly next to one another in the middle of the maze. The turns at the entrance to the tunnels change the usual immediate accessibility of the tunnels and should be taken in to account. You must clear this maze 4 times before moving on to the next maze.
After Round 13, the game alternates every 4 rounds between the third and fourth mazes.
Finally, the ghosts' movement patterns are also completely different to those of the original game.
Note: I used the invisibility cheat on level 4 or 5. - Hry
When I was little, the chomping sound effects were so satisfying to hear
So was this game made by Namco like the first Pacman?
My sister would always play this while we were at the laundromat. She’d always get to They Meet, and on a good day, she’d get to The Chase. Only once did I see her get to the Junior part, but she died pretty quickly after that. It was a lot of fun to watch her play. I didn’t play as much as she did since she was a high school student and I was only in elementary, but Nintendo became the craze in my generation and the Pac-Man video game phased out for me. Otherwise, it was a great memory to think about.
So Nostalgic
I played this game when I was a little boy when my parents took me to the laundromat. I played every levels, but I lost each damn time!! I was like, "Mom, can you buy me ms. Pacman so I can play on it?" And she said yeah. We went to Toys R Us years ago, and we bought the plug n play version of it. Such good memories.
I'm stuck entirely to the fact of Ms.Pac-Man ability to hide *behind* the ghosts???
moving on
Nothing like a round of Ms. Pac-Man at the laundromat. Great memories, indeed
What a fantastic game! I’m glad there’s no traumatising videos sharing the same name as it!
Totally not! :D
Yeah! I hope it doesn’t depict a persons head being spilt in half!
what the fuck please inform me on the context
What the hell did I miss?
@@joevictor53 Don't worry about it. :DDD
It's hard to believe we're all in our 50s now, and there are no more arcade game rooms. Arcades were our favorite hangout places. If I had all those quarters back, I'd be a rich man now. Lmao!
There is a small little amusement park near where I grew up that has an arcade in the park. I hadn't been there in probably 20 years and I went last summer and the arcade is exactly as it was when I was a kid. All the old games from my childhood still there. It's like it hit about 1989 or so and time just stopped. There were some old classics like 1942, and some later 1980's classics like Outrun and Operation Wolf. The same machines that were there when I was young. Of course the park itself has one of the oldest merry-go-rounds in the country, so it's definitely a place they like to keep everything traditional. The arcade also has the old school ski ball machines with the flip-digit scores.
@@100percentSNAFU
I'm glad that arcade is still in full swing. There aren't anymore where I live, but there used to be an open-face pavilion at Myrtle Beach that stayed in full swing for a long time before being demolished. The arcade in that pavilion had multiple skee ball machines, 1970s video games and the whole nine yards. It even had one of those mechanical gunslingers that has a life size cowboy who walks through swinging doors and shoots at you.
There's barcade here in NYC
@@phil4863
A barcade is great for adults! We even have barcades in North Carolina, but it's not somewhere kids can go and hang out.
There are very few arcades here in my town (Los Angeles, CA), and they charge a rather steep admission fee nowadays to play all the machines as opposed to just walking in with your quarters (or tokens) like back in the day. Those of us in the hood who didn't have the bus fare to travel downtown, crosstown, or the next town would be content with a walk around the block to the local burger joint or laundromat to play these classic games.
ETA: We have our share of barcades too; there's one in Downtown LA, the historic neighborhood of Little Tokyo
My favorite old classic arcade game brings me back my childhood memories. : )
Who else played MS. PAC-MAN before PAC-Man?
I think I played Pac man first and then played Ms Pac man several times before finally returning to my old friend Pac man.
Yeah
Pac-Man was my first. What I love about Pac-Man is that there's a level of logic in that you have to find a pattern for a corresponding fruit that fits best for you, the A.I. is surprisingly complex for an arcade game at the time, and it genuinely gets tense later in the game.
While I also love Ms. Pac-Man and understand why some prefer it over Pac-Man, my two biggest and only gripes with it are the patterns are essentially non-existent and the ghosts act too random. So my favorite go-to versions of Ms. Pac-Man are the Tengen ports and the speedup hack, they make the game a whole lot better IMHO.
I played Ms.Pacman first, and it was at a laundromat, but I was too young to be a good player
@@harrisonmoore3841 I first played Ms PAC MAN in a plug in play. Although, I don’t exactly remember how old I was.
I used to play this all the time at my local pizza place called Papa Gino’s, a New England pizza chain where it currently has 97 remaining open after dozens closed down abruptly without any explanations (originally had 150 stores throughout New England) due to bankruptcy. The good old days playing and waiting for pizza and breadsticks. 😂🍕
I really hope PG’s doesn’t close all 97 down. Coz we love our New England pizza! 🙏🍕🙏🍕
Agreed, brotha!! In my opinion, only Bianchi's, and Regina Pizzeria beat PG's!
I once played it at the Spaghetti Warehouse in Dayton Ohio. I broke 120,000! (Extra life was at 20K for some reason…)
Man, if I had a quarter for every time I played this game...
Lol
To make up for all the quarters spent on this game?
Did you not have a quarter every time you played this game?
@@ImmortalArts33 bot
Lol
Love that sound effect when she eats the power pellet!
I was about to blast him with ** CHEATER ** in the comments like you too maybe but then I realized why he did it. I believe he wanted to show us how far this game can take us. Those of you who are too young won't get it but those who actually played this game in early 80s know that VERY FEW PEOPLE would reach "The Chase" level much less passing all 2-3 mazes that would lead us to this "Junior" level which I personally never seen anyone reach so thanks to you "Cheater" ;-) for showing me this, I didn't even know there was another level after The Chase. Thumbs Up for me. :-D
MerlinWorldLawofAttractionForum the chase scene is very reachable, in my n64 anniversary collection, but it is a challenge for sure. The layout of the 3rd maze is really screwed though, you will find yourself getting ambushed seemingly out of nowhere. I wanna witness a true champ take this behemoth
Thank you!!! People don't understand the purpose of this channel...
@nemesisgenius It's *pear* ,not pair. 🤣
I played this game back in the 80s and I got past all the levels I've always wished to have my own and today I can say after 36 years of not playing I now own a pac man literally got delivered last week and have yet to set it up but its actually ms pac man that I want and I'm waiting to see if the prices will drop if not ill cough up the $3000 to get it after I get my military disability retirement 🤔 and PLAY ON I WILL TILL ETERNITY and I will make sure anyone who comes over will have to pay 2 Quarters 🤣😂 cause I'm gon recoup my 3grand deal or no deal
I always prefer the speed up chip versions of Pac-Man, Ms. Pac-Man, and Jr. Pac-Man. Especially with Jr. Pac-Man cause the mazes in Jr. Pac-Man are just ridiculously huge to the point that the developers actually had to implement an in-game camera!
4:50 I love listening to that it's nostalgic
I know Pac-Man is the original then came along Ms. Pac-Man and then Jr. Pac-Man. The reason why Jr. Pac-Man IA my favorite of the three is because I actually love how huge the mazes are and the fact that each maze is different wnd no two are the same, that just seriously blows my mind!!! Plus the arcade music track in Jr. Pac-Man has some of my all time favorite video game tunes! While I wasn't born in the 80s I was born in 1998, it's my all time favorite Era because tge 80s was the explosion of video games! Plus the music and bands from the 80s are my all time favorite Era of music! Twisted Sister with We're Not Gonna Take it Anymore, A-Ha with Take On Me, Men At Work with Down Under, etc.
Don't forget baby pac-man, super pac man and pac-mania
I.Remember Ms Pacman & Galaga Arcade Machine at The Movie Theatre
I love the bouncing fruit. thank you for uploading!

So how do you do those "cheats" to make you go right through the ghosts?
it happens in special places and specif ghost n screen
I remember playing Bally Midway Arcade Game Ms. Pac-Man at the laundry place call SpinCycle when I was a 7 year old child in Chicago, IL 2008
i love the sounds of ms pacman.. miss Arcades in 1992 we had ms pacman, rad mobile, outrun, pit fighter, art of fighting, Michael Jackson's Moonwalker , kung fu master
good times..
I played this at a local arcade that moved at least twice in my lifetime. I noticed it at the second location and last time I was at the third location, it was there too.
The gameplay on that particular machine was super fast paced, more so than in this video.
Ms. Pacman is my number one all time favorite arcade game!!
A local laundromat had this in the late 80s and I used to play it a lot. never realized the game was as old as me lol
Everybody watching sees that you went through the ghosts, and that you had 5 lives, (instead of three)
He must be using a cheat code for invincibility.
you can change the starting lives in the dip switch settings
Of the various versions of the Pac-Man games, Super Ms. Pac-Man was my long running favorite in the 1980s. As I recall, after about 20 rounds, the power pellets are not any good and she has to really move it to complete the round.
My older sister had this game on the Sega Genesis a long time ago when I was younger back in the late 2000s through the early 2010s I use to play it all the time on that system and that's what got me into the Pacman franchise was Ms.Pacman💗❤🙂😊
This game used to make me cry when I would lose. We played this on Nintendo 64 when i was maybe 7 years old. My mom was the best at it.
I’ve just realised something. The more dots you eat the higher the pitch sounds make until you’ve eaten at the dots. I know it makes a similar thing in the original Pac-Man game but when I played mrs Pac-Man on Namco museum it doesn’t make a higher pitch sounds the more dots you’ve eaten up.
Man this takes me back to the old PIzza Hut with the "sit-down" Ms Pac-Man machine.
Remember that version at Stuart Anderson's Black Angus restaurant in Bellingham, WA (it no longer exists). My brother got it to 'They Meet' but couldn't get past there.
Man I forgot how colorful this game was maybe it was just me but the frist couple of times that I came across this title it was like eye candy to me man but now that I know a lot about this game is crazy to think just how far this game was in terms of stuff that the oringal pac man couldn't handle
Ms. Pacman is CLEARLY moving through the non-blue ghosts. This must be a god mode version.
I never had much luck with Ms Pac-Man at the arcade, always hitting a false neutral with the damn joystick!😭😭😭😭
25:13 Pinky: *♀ voice* We're all right back where we started.
I love Ms pac-man that's my favorite game
I bested you with a high score of over 200,000 when I was living the Bohemian life as a student in Zurich in 1982, playing at the Oliver Twist Pub. Good game never the less, some great moves I have never seen before.
The Pac-Man of America.
The orange ghost is Sue, not Clyde in Ms. Pac-Man.
Poor Clyde was replaced with Sue.
And also sue replace by Tim in jr.pac man game in 1983
One of my only complaints about any of the pac man games is when you eat a power pellet the ghost need to stay in the box after you eat them until the pellet wears out
Such a fun game. The farthest I’ve made it in this game is up to the pear.
11:54 - What the heck is this wizardry
It's called using cheats.
I have no problem with the "cheating", as the entire point of these videos is to show us the full extend of these arcade games. The videos last long enough to show us when the game "flips" over and repeats itself (or the levels reset to level 1).
Game repeats at 20:00 and looks like it just sticks on the first (pink) level.

Ms Pac-Man back in (1981)
I like it
Whoever is playing is cheating that takes the fun out of it.. He is using some type of invincibility code
yes i noticed agreed
No is to showcase the game levels
My three all time favorite video games are,
PACKMAN, Ms.PACKMAN, PACKMANJr.
Best sequel to Pac man.
i've only gotten to 'The Chase' level once , so i forget what it looks like.
I just remembered that pac man was made into a whole new 3D game like Mario Brothers & many others but nothing beats the original format
In the comments, you credit NAMCO...but this was Bally Midway's doing. Bally Midway was the authorized US distributor of NAMCO games. Pac-Man's star was fading, people were getting bored with the game, especially because pattern runners (something NAMCO never thought about) were hogging the machines for hours. The first (unauthorized) mod to deal with this was Pac-man Plus. When you ate a power pellet, one of the ghosts (a random one each time) became inedible, and this destroyed pattern running. But the maze was the same over and over. MS. Pac-man raised the bar on this, and greatly enhanced the entertainment factor of the game. But it was not authorized by NAMCO. This ultimately led to NAMCO terminating their US marketing agreement with Bally Midway, and to Bally Midway forfeiting their rights to all the Pac-man derivatives that they created without NAMCO's consent...
1:09 always thought it was funny the way the fruits would march around the map in this one.
He said he uses the invisibility cheat on level 4 or 5, but it seems to me they can see you just fine.
I remember playing it one time when I was a Senior in High School and I was totally pathetic at it. The ghosts out smarted me and I couldn't even get the fruit either, never was able to leave the first level. PATHETIC I Was At It Then!!!!!
I only remember reaching act3 junior once when I was young
Ms. Pac-Man didn't appear in other media because Namco Bandai Entertainment had written her off for no reason
Pac-Man: Ralph Breaks the Maze
Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures
Wreck-It Ralph
Pixels
Super Smash Bros. (Wii U/3DS)
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Midway (premier video game designer) released Mortal Kombat, NBA Jam, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Revolution X Featuring Aerosmith and Killer Instinct (as a in-house brand of WMS Manufacturing Group which also owns its other in-house brand, Williams Electronic Games)
They recently released other video games for various game consoles
Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe
The reason is because Ms. Pac-Man was created by General Computer Corporation and Bandai Namco would have to pay them royalty should Bandai Namco continue to user her in future products.
Bro phases through Blinky at 9:52 and then STAYED INSIDE OF PINKY AND CLYDE at 9:53. This game is WILD
22:41 *WHAT THE HELL?!?!*
So you have to beat the banana stage three times before seeing the last interlude scene.
Who the hell is Sue? I thought the orange ghost was Clyde. Did he get a sex change operation or something?
Maybe it's Clyde's sister.
It’s his girlfriend actually
he's hiding from the government
either that or they're trans
Sue is the purple ghost, originally orange.
This game is as impossible as the first! So hard that you had to use cheat codes!
February 3, 1982-a female version entered the freshly inaugural pac family. And might I add, she was Madonna before Madonna happened.
Looks like the person who's playing this game did it again, have it switched to cheat mode.
I forgot what was the first Pac-Man I played but I do know people usually consider this to be the best in the series
14:45 The maze looks like an evil smiley face
Did you turn off the ghost’s hitboxes?
Now in the Video Game Hall of Fame
Love the game
I loved this game!
In what games does Blinky get faster the more pellets Pacman eats?
1:44 that move was so clever wow
Ms. Pac-Man is the biggest arcade game iin American history.
Making a female version of Pac-Man was pointless in the face of statistical evidence that said women were already playing regular Pac-Man in large numbers. To make an obscure analogy, Ms. Pac-Man was to Namco in 1982 as the Girl's Train was to Lionel in 1957.
In all the PAC Man games they need to have it when you eat a power pellet either the ghost come back out after you eat them & stay blue til your power play is over or when you eat them not come back out til your power play is over
I never went so far... Tremendous to see it till the end. Blooop...
I have really spent 31 minutes here :-( Bluuuuuu.... Bip Bip Bip Blooop pipi caca coco dude girl bip blooup ha ha
You get to see the full version of this.
Who ever knew when the Ms. Pac-MAN would go invisible
This and Robotron are my favorites. 👊
The power pellets turned into regular pellets and Ms Pac-Man didn't die for touching all those ghosts.
8starkid144 ? He used a hack to turn off his ability to die for a while, just to demonstrate the gameplay and the different boards. But the power pill thing is a standard part of the game; after a while all it does is make the monsters reverse directions for a second. Same thing happens in Pac Man.
@@nightfly016 Ghosts not monsters.

I remember playing ms Pac-Man at our local pizza ranch back in like 2018 or something and it been there since I was a kid but sadly they got rid of it
Wikipedia says this was released in January of 1982
This was probably completed in 1981
Did the game release in 1981 or 1982? Seems to be conflicting dates online for some reason
Who else noticed that Ms. Pac-Man has a mole? I noticed it about ten minutes ago for the first time. Pretty embarrassing that it took me so long to notice it.
