    QUESTIONS Covered in this Video
    As you know, we talked with Joe Graney at Santa Cruz to discuss the bike supply issues, but I’m glad to have you on for a couple reasons. You’re a component supplier for some OE spec, you make custom shocks individuals, but you make everything in the USA. That seemed to be a theme of a fair number of comments on Joe’s interview that said “just make stuff in the USA, that’ll solve everything” - so what better person to speak with than you. Thanks for being on!
    There may be a lot of people out there who don’t know what PUSH is. Give us a quick rundown of what you do.
    I love asking you this because it’s probably impossible to answer, but what bike is getting the Elevensix request most these days?
    How much business is tuning vs. new products these days at PUSH?
    Let’s get into PUSH products and supply and demand. Are you sitting on inventory, has there been no real change or is it a struggle to keep up with demand?
    Is high demand a good problem?
    What’s out of your control that’s impacting manufacturing or delivery times?
    What about material prices or labor prices?
    Are you dependent on any international suppliers? You make everything here, but is international freight an issue at all for you?
    How realistic is a “made in the USA” mountain bike product for existing brands out there?
    PUSH Elevensix shocks are offered as options on a handful of new bikes. How is the OE game going right now?
    How do you plan future business with uncertainty in the market?
    Are you seeing a change in what customers want this year compared to a year or two ago?
    If I’m a PUSH customer, what’s my lead time?
    Do you have any insight into how the bigger suspension brands are being impacted?
    Gaze into your crystal ball: How long do you think the market is going to be like this? Do you see a light at the end of the tunnel and if so, what does it look like?
    Despite big demand now, do you have concerns about dark clouds on the economic horizon?

      This. My cousin and I used to ride years ago and he dropped some big coin on a Zaskar. Was a killer bike. In its time...
      Fast forward 20 years and I'm riding again on a YT. Better than even my mid 2000s Kona. He just picked up again and is still riding an old hard tail (not the zaskar) I keep trying to convince him to get a new bike because of all the improvements. He keeps trucking on 26s!

    It’s hard to find anything to sell atm at our shop too. Thinking about selling the demo fleet now 😔. Got around 5 bikes on the shopfloor instead of the usual 50. We’re trying to do as many custom builds as possible because frames are still coming but ot is getting more difficult by the day. Fingers crossed we get through the year without any difficulties.

      I feel your pain. It's not easy for shops to survive and not being able to get in inventory to sell can really hurt a bike shop big time. I've been having a hard time myself with getting parts from my local shop but I refuse to buy online. I use to own a small business and always make sure to support my local mom & pop stores and always my local bike shop. I pray that things get better soon..

      @obi-wankenobi9871 Před 3 lety +7

      Formula makes their forks in Italy. Intend in Germany. Formulas pricing is right in between Fox and rockshox. If you compare Intend to the top end single crown forks from fox, you will find fox to only be around 200€ cheaper, but when you buy a fox fork, you will not get CNCd lowers, you will not get custom tuning and you will not get a fork make in Germany, but instead made in asia.
      This just shows how greedy/bloated a lot of the brands in the bike industry are.

    I'm honestly willing to pay more for parts made in USA, our industry will get back on its feet only if we buy from US companies that build their stuff in USA, small steps but steps nonetheless

    • @paradox963

      Unfortunately your in the minority, I work in a bike shop and it's almost comical the amount of people who come in looking for a normal bike not a super high end and they complain about two things, one that it's all made overseas and two that it cost too much. People say they want to buy american but they want it at less than the cost for stuff made in asia. A company like Push is better positioned to manufacture in the US cause they make a high end boutique product that people are willing to pay top dollar for, so they can absorb some of those higher manufacturing expenses.

    @helzevec Před 3 lety

    I wouldn't call it "easy" to make stuff in the US. But, I think the point is that there are no easy solutions to the current supply chain problem and, by default, we're just waiting and hoping for a return to "normal". The post C19 world is uncertain. It's a safe bet things will be more open than they have been. But, future virus mitigation strategies are likely to be much more aggressive and disruptive of intl trade - at least for the "short" term (as in 5 or so years). Developed countries run a serious risk of being quite trigger happy on lockdowns at the slightest sign of something scary coming out of Asia post C19. So yeah, it may be hard to make domestic production work, but, you know, things are sometimes hard. It's possible. Companies like GG are making it work, with far smaller budgets.

    At $1,200 USD... the Elevensix is TWICE the price of any other shock on the market. Given that cost... I don't think anyone is going to line up to pay $2,500-3,000 for a PUSH fork.

    • @DakicSlobodan
      @DakicSlobodan Před 3 lety +4

      Prices might go down in the future, since EXT is selling their Storia Lok V3 shock which arguably outperforms Push, and costs less. They also have a full coil fork in the development pipeline, and a hybrid in Era fork. Not to mention Vorsprung got their Smashpot coil conversion now out for both Zeb and Fox 38. Competition is a good thing.

      @@DakicSlobodan I can appreciate a company like PUSH reassessing product pricing, after a market adjustment, however I think there’s a slim chance in hell any PUSH products will adjust 40-50% and fall in line with FOX Factory, RockShox Ultimate, or any other high end MTB suspension products currently available.

    • @EdwardFagan07
      @EdwardFagan07 Před 2 lety +1

      Politics aside, if small companies like Push Industries can make their products in the US, pay their workers a decent wage and still survive, then the large American corporations can do likewise. The pursuit of ridiculously cheap labor in East Asia by American companies aims to serve one purpose: to disproportionately maximize their profit margin. As a practice it's anti the American labor force. And it places the American consumer at the mercy of companies located in communist countries, or located in countries destined to become communist. ( The domino theory applied to the spread of communism in South East Asia will occur.)
