New Orleans Neighborhoods #21 - Federal City (Former Naval Support Activity Algiers)

A drive around Federal City on the Westbank of New Orleans in Algiers. This mixed purpose development occupies the former Westbank portion of the Naval Support Activity New Orleans, making use of some of the century old buildings, and incorporating some new modern buildings. But much of the area seems completely abandoned and unused.

I was station in New Orleans, lived in Slidell, River Ridge and new base housing at NAS JRB Belle Chasse back in the day. NSA Westbank look the same yet very different. The Personnel Support Detachment (PSD) is now the New Orleans police station. The hospital is still standing when I was there the floors above the main floor became living quarters for the single sailors and marines. After hurricane Katrina hit the US Navy never came back, decided to keep most commands from New Orleans at BUPERS Millington, TN. Thank you for the drive around Federal City really appreciate it.

A few years back I left Roberta's after dark (we must have been moving stuff I guess) and went down Opelousas, expecting to be forced to turn down Behrman at the end. I wound up in the old base and lost. I drove over some curbs and grass in a parking lot to Gen. Meyer which was in sight. Lol.
