    I was just watching this video and it made me wonder how you are doing? You are so talented and I hope you still play your pipes.

    I love the sound of bagpipes and the drones. What does a bagpipe look like?

    Thanks for all of your help man. I play solo for now. I'm just not sure if I have money for another chanter but I'll have to save up. If you want, you can find me on Facebook if that will make it easier.

    mrkashihigashi, you are the man, man! So all you are saying in this video, is that once you get the bridle set to your strength, you have to set them to where they tune above the hemp line? I live in a high elevation so my chanter is tuning WAY too sharp lol. It's hard for me to fix that. I really appreciate how you saw my comment on your last video and made this video to help! Thanks!

    I play McCallum p0 model pipes. I have tried doing all kinds of things to my chanter to flatten it. Raised the reed up( but that made some notes gurgle) I tried tape but all of the notes were very sharp and I didn't want to tape every note. Not sure what else to do unless I move to a lower elevation and get a lower pitch chanter :/ I have some ezeedrone reeds now. Just need to set them up to my strength, then I'll try moving the tenors up on the pin just to see if they have that gurgle affect.

    Not all reeds that I've had reacted this way. the only ones to gurgle out of the box where the Henderson Carbon Fiber Reeds. my Kinnaird, Ezeedrone, Henderson plastic tongues, Henderson cane, and the balance tone only have a a two tone stick up and do not gurgle out of the box. i Learned all of this at Ian Whitelaws Camp A Week In Paradise. He is a professional piper. i have a video of him on the last day at his camp. I have a Krog Chromatic Tuner which we only used to tune to low A and high A i also have the Blairs bagpipe tuner on the iPhone for the rest of the notes. so i tune to 480 on the tuner your thinking of. on the Krog tuner I'm at 454. what grade of piper are you. I'm now in grade 3 because of Ian Whitelaw.

    @Jordanhaines Do you not want the gurgle sound? you dont have to have it but it is known to be very professional! but if you dont want the gurgle you can try to bring out the tuning screw or use the allen wrench to push in the screw if you are using canning/kinnaird.making the chanter a little flatter...then you can try to close the tounge a bit....well......its hard to describe.......i havent gotten to get the gurgle sound to go away completely but i have got it very minamal....i honestly dont know how i did it i just messed with my drone reeds until they stop doing it and i did that on my Ezee drone reeds but i put the gurgle back in because it sound pretty good. ill try to make a video on how to not get the gurgle sorry about that

    Your blowpipe is still too long, and you're rushing the dotted eighth notes in Flett.

    so in high elevation you want to flatten your chanter. Shorter Sharper Longer flatter. What type of pipes do you have? just mess around with the chanter setting if its not where you want it. i tried making a video a month ago but my phone was acting up. im so glad that i could help you. let me know if you have any other questions.

      Thank you very much for this useful information! My Problem is that with my David Naill pipes and Eezydrones, i dont't reach the 6th hemp line on 476Hz (Band) even if they the screw is next to the reed body and fully plugged in, so i can't gurgle that much on the 3rd line. Can Eezy's also be chopped (shortened)? I also have cannings and Omegas - same problem over there. . Is there a drone reed set on the market, that allows me to get that high and gurgels like hell, but is smooth and stable afterwards? What about the high pitches one's (cannings) you can order these days? Thank you

    I know this is an old video but need some advise. Like your girgle concept and am trying to set up with my 72 Tweedies. Playing Crozier Cane Tenors and Kinnaird Evolution Bass. My question is in order to tune the tenors to get the girgle one has to get above the hempline on the tuning slide? When you do that you flatten pitch and if the drone reed is seated as deep as it can get how can I get to a 480 pitch and still get above the hempline? Right now they tune will to 480 but get a howl at strike in. You cannot tighten the screw to make that happen. Only way to raise pitch is shorten the reed or move the bridle opposite the open end of the reed and raise the strength. What might you suggest?

      Theres a lack of that for some reason ... you've probably been educated since this comment , but here goes
      Your drone is 110 ,tenors 220 and your chanter 440 mhz ( in the perfect world only ) .... 440-470 is ballpark, so you need to calibrate based on your chanters high A (chanter reeds are random mhz)
      The base is longer and lower pitch ... tenors shorter and higher , keep in mind
      Heres the path I follow ...
      1) airflow... get them equalized by moving the bridal (sounds like crap but get all 4 firing first) , losing air tires fast so get them firing at higher levels
      2) tune to pitch with nose screw (long low,short high)
      3) tune with sliders , long low/short high
      The gurgle is 110 times a second in the base and 220 in tenors ( a gurgle means it wont jam shut or squeak , but you cant single manage a base ,a tenor or a chanter reed .. every tweak changes everything so its trial n error until your good at it

    my ezeedrone reeds squeal at strike ins and cut offs? I´ve spent hours trying to adjust the bridle and they wont get any better, any tip?

    • @mrkashihigashi
      @mrkashihigashi  Před 8 lety +2

      Yes there is. Set them back to where they are comfortable then add a small amount of hemp to pull it out then keep adding until it stops but blow it about ten times to see if it squeals if it does just add a bit more hemp

  • @Donnybrook10
    @Donnybrook10 Před 4 lety +4

    Dude, you need a much shorter blowpipe. The base drone should sit right next to your head while you're playing and the chanter should be perpendicular to the ground. Your piping will improve once everything sits properly and you don't have to fight with your instrument.

    Doesn't all reed behave this way?? I mean that sound is accomplished because of pressure variance, with any reed. Also if you are soloing you should be tuning in the neighborhood of 476. Where are you getting this information??
