Remember that this is a Mobile game playable on browser, they really didn't need to go that far, but they made a 10 minute epic with no loop. As for the similarities with Dark Silver Wings is intentional, Dark Silver Wings is a boss battle against Bahamut ( God of Destruction basically), and The Ultimate is a WAY harder version against Ultimate Bahamut, hence why the similarities. The different shifts in the music is tied to all phases of the boss at each HP checks. Now you gotta listen to Paradise Lost 😁

So I'm late but a bit of context, the game plays like a standard turn based RPG game and it used to be one of the hardest 6 man raids in the game. Big emphasis on used to be because the powercreep in this game is really bad and now it's a cake walk but I still remember the phases it goes through because it was so memorable back in the day.
1:04-3:58(100%-75% phase), prolly the easiest phase but it can still wipe you if you weren't careful. Has some pretty dangerous triggers(special moves) that can one shot you along w/ some annoying debuffs.
3:58-6:15(75%-50%), hardest hitting phase as his normal attacks now hits all of your party members and has a faster cooldown on some triggers.
6:16-8:03(50%-30%), this is the DPS check phase. Each player has only a certain number of turns to do damage and if just one player goes over it will kill ALL the members of the raid.
8:04-9:16(30%-15%), not too dangerous of a phase but will trigger an attack that will 1 shot the whole party at 15%.
9:17-11:00(15%-0%), the home stretch. The make it or break it phase, just a little more push and you'll finally beat Bahamut.
I recommend listening to Zero, another bgm of one of the hardest raids in Granblue Fantasy

This is still probably my favorite track from Granblue, period. It's contextually sick, considering it's Ultimate Bahamut's theme and borrows the chorus from Dark Silver Wings (being Proto Bahamut's theme), slowing it down and using it in it's own chorus, showing a more majestic and imposing Bahamut than the previous one.

He REALLY need to hear Zero, Lucilius theme. That fight changed the meta of the game and the song really is iconic inside the community.
Imo, this is probably the embodiment of an actual boss theme. It hits really hard, and the lyrics have relevance to the story of the game. Ultimate Bahamut was the end game raid for sometime till newer raids got added, and it was intimidating as an inexperienced player because one wrong move in this raid and you were easily dead. When you've never done this raid, it's like holy shit what did I just walk into.
he still is an end game boss. They make new versions of him every now and again. He'll bust your nuts instantly if your not equipped to the teeth with decent characters and weapons
I'm more disappointed everyone didn't force you also listen to Zero, In this narrow small world, New World Order,Existence, Dominion Black Dragon or even Sanbagarasu otoko uta in one go for the full range of this games soundtrack of 8 years

You should think of this soundtracks as they are. Raid boss songs, the long intros are because they're the boss first phase, and when the song picks up is because it's getting difficult and the end is when you're about to defeat it

Yo! Jesse glad you finally made it to hear this theme, is such a awesome track imo. But you need to hear the rest of the most popular songs, like Paradise Lost, Parade's Lust, Zero and Existence. Definitely you gonna love it.
3:06 - Kind of funny you say that it sounds like a imperial march, because the name of the raid or boss battle is called 'Empyreal Ascension' . Btw the boss is a dragon as well! You can look for it as Ultimate Bahamut.
6:15 - I alway love this segment of the music because in the boss battle you face, there is a phase of the boss where, if you do not do the amount of damage need it to mitigate a certain special attack from the boss in a certain amount of turns, you get wiped out full of your party, and that feel to know to that is like make you pumped up to fast and do enough damage to bypass that.

Glad to see you enjoyed it as much as we hoped you would. The only "shame" about the song is that due to the way the game is made much of the fight is left to players imaginations.
One important thing to mention is that The Ultimate was built upon Darksilver Wings, as both are fights versus the same boss, just with a way higher difficulty.
His reaction makes me nostalgia on my own reaction when the first time hearing the BGM in game...
Especially that chuckles when the tempo starts to become fast
But that sudden relaxed 9:20, its totally different reaction because in game, It become most stressfull / do or die phase

As other comments have mentioned, this track is the BGM for the raid boss against ULTIMATE BAHAMUT, thus the echoing of Proto Bahamut's theme "Dark Silver Wings/Wings of Terror" in parts like "REBIRTH AND DESTRUCTION, AGAIN AND AGAIN"
The actual fight is not particularly epic looking if you don't play, but UBaha's sprite is pretty sick
For my suggestions: If you haven't, listen to Dominion Black Dragon, you listened to Dark Silver Wings and you absolutely need to listen to Dominion Black Dragon as such(I wanna see if you can guess what event the remix was for), others have suggested Paradise Lost, Parade's Lust, ZERO, Morning Light Hymnus, etc, but I appreciate Small Fish in a Small Pond, Illuminated World, New World Order, and the Six Dragon's three themes
Glad to finally hear another GBF track on your channel. As for why the build-up for the song sounds like a "phase" yes you are absolutely correct. The way they make these boss tracks is always composed for build-up that matches the raid boss' different phases on their life bar. This track is actually one of the endgame bosses and his name is Ultimate Bahamut (Ubaha for short). Also at 9:17 that's pretty much the part of the raid where you are not allowed to screw up here or else Ubaha will unleash a move that deals 999,999 dmg that pretty much completely obliterates your entire party, I got chills when I first experienced this with that track like it really makes you feels like the end has come.
next from the series of "end game boss fights" for Granblue Fantasy would be "Zero" (Lucilius theme) I think

If you'd like a more animated fight scene, there's granblue fantasy versus, which is their fighting game that does have proto-bahamut as a boss fight. Sadly it doesn't have all of the hardest bosses at the time like ultimate bahamut, but it does have beelzebub's, and belials'. I do think parts of their song in versus are different than the mobile/browser version though.

You should try Zero from Granblue Fantasy. It's the boss that came out after this specific boss. Ultimate Bahamut is currently back on top as its Super Ultimate Bahamut raid, but Zero, the theme for Lucilius was what came after the regular Ultimate Bahamut.
the game has a fair amount of these, mainly in fights that either have high significance or else are end game. The best part is that all of them are played in sections as the fight progresses and as the boss's hp goes down. it picks up during hard sections in the fight and slows down during sections where you need to be more cautious, and ofc a good finale to push that last 5-10% where you would find the most struggle lol.
fun thing about this song (and yes, it is a boss song... an endgame one at that)... that orchestral bit at the beginning is just him "testing" you. the metal kicking in is when he decides to get serious

But yeah, "The Ultimate" is the boss theme for Bahamut, a dragon that can literally bring about rebirth and destruction of the World as the lyrics say.
The sections of the song basically match up with the different phases of the fight itself. And the way I always saw it is that the orchestral build up part of the song is the first half of the boss fight where Bahamut is attacking you yes, but is only barely awake. Like, you are fighting it's sleepwalking instincts rather than a fully conscious God. Then when the main theme really kicks in is when Bahamut fully awakens and the real challenge begins.
And yeah, it's pretty cool when a game gives us a song that is THIS long with no loops. I can only imagine the endurance of the musicians playing this song.

The Ultimate Bahamut fight was one of the end have bosses. In fact, the endgame boss for years. It was so hard that you got a trophy for solo killing it. But back when it first released you need 6 (the max amount of people) to kill it. You need 5 main characters with whole raid damage cutters, and one main character healer. The damage cut had 5 turn cooldown.
Near the end of the fight, your ability to summon is taken away. You've debuffed him so many times that it's hard to land anything, and so often Bahamut will just straight up clear away all but permanent debuffs.
Without the super buff you can use now to fight him, he's still hard to solo kill. Though the power creep of the game has caught up to him. So much so that they made a new version of Ultimate Bahamut. It's the current end game fight.
This song is supposed to be about the ultimate version of dragon the final and complete form of the emperiyal dragon.
Black silver wing was dragon half form, that why both song sound similar, and share lyrics

I recommended Zero, the ost for one the hardest raid in GBF Lucilius Hard. The song itself 13 minutes without loop so it's also one of the longest ost in gbf

So for context: the reason the song is called "The Ultimate" is because the boss fight is vs God. You fight God. (as one does in JRPGs, LOL)
The god of the realm in Granblue is a dragon named Bahamut. Legends say that his power split in two, with the power of Rebirth/Creation, and the power of Destruction. (which is why it's a recurring theme in this song and "Black Silver Wings/Wings of Terror")
BSW/WoT is "Proto" Bahamut's theme, who is like a minor envoy(?) of his power (I guess???? The game doesn't make it very clear)
"The Ultimate" is *actual* Bahamut's theme, which is why it's as grandiose as it is. The context as to when and why you fight him, or if it's just all in your head, or in a different dimension isn't exactly clear either, as far as I'm aware. Lots of lore and boss fights play it loose, and we don't know the specifics until some story event drops.
Anyways: Granblue music is awesome, I've only watched 3 of these vids so far, but all of your reactions have been correct and well thought out! I've definitely been delighted as an average VGM/rock enjoyer XD
I would love to see how you react to "Six Dragon Advent: Black and White" which is the theme of the Light and Dark Dragons Lu Woh and Fediel respectively. It also has big thrashy, power metal vibes, but people want to see you get through some other songs first, and they're probably more veteran players than me :P

Unfortunately, the gameplay itself is..... not that interesting. Mostly standard turn-based combat. There are some great looking animations, but I imagine the majority of the community skips it via refreshing for time optimization.
