    Thanks for the video. The bit about calibrating with distilled water at 20C was new to me and I will be doing that in the future. I have used Tilt for 4 brews now and I absolutely love the feedback I get about my fermentation progress. I can visually see on the graph when the fermentation slows and after increasing the temperature I can see the fermentation rate increase again. The tilt has been a worthwhile equipment purchase for me. If I ever have multiple fermentation vessels, I will not hesitate to buy one for each vessel. I use my tilt with BrewPi and while not officially supported, the BrewPi community involvement is top notch. If you don't have fermentation temperature control, I highly recommend BrewPi ... and the Tilt Hyrdometer.

    thank you for making this video and the one on the version 2. I have just purchased a V2 and haven't yet used it but you have laid to rest my concerns of cost-to-benefits it will be.

    I just dropped mine in my 2nd batch. I had a bit of difficulty getting it to start a new Google Sheet, so I went into my Android App Management, force stopped it, cleared the cached data, and when I restarted the app it worked like a charm. If anyone else has a similar issue, hopefully this will help.
    I see the manufacturers read these comments. :-) My only wish is to know remaining battery life. When I drop it in my conical, it's easy enough to retrieve if it dies, but in a carboy it'll be trickier. It's probably difficult to measure battery life on a disposable battery, so I'll just keep my fingers crossed.
    Great product! Great video! Cheers David... keep up the great work!

    I just bought Tilt in Denmark, and I believe Tilt now has multiple re-sellers in Scandinavia and the rest of Europe, so no need to import it from the US. I really like this little unit, even though it is a bit of a geek toy. I find the main advantage to be, that you can easily decide when fermentation has completed without losing any wort due to taking measurements.

    i only calibrated it after unpacking tilt one month ago.

    these work very well I know a few guys that have these and they love them, I would get one but for me the price is too high right now hopefully they will drop. Also for home brewers doing ales I really don't see a need, i still wait the 14 days and then keg. However if your into lagering and you use the quick method then i can see a real need, this removes the whole opening the fermenter. I'm lucky enough to have a conical fermenter and I just need to open a ball vale to get a sample and a reading.

    I wonder if using this while fermenting under pressure would affect the accuracy.
    The atmospheric pressure would be different under pressure.

      Not an issue.

    • @ScottHarder
      @ScottHarder Před 6 lety

      Yes I be had issues

    • @Andy-id1ui
      @Andy-id1ui Před 6 lety +1

      I have used mine and there are a couple of issues. Krausen can build up on the Tilt and therefore make it produce inaccurate readings. For example today it was reading 1.017, when I took a sample it was 1.012 and near to end of fermentation as I thought. Also, when you dry hop (I use pellets) the film of pellets on the surface can also interfere with the tilt. And even worse do not drop them onto the tilt as they can stick onto it and again give false readings. I had an earlier brew giving a reading of 1.002, when it was 1.010!!! So, I am finding the temp readings most useful, and using the gravity readings as just a guide, which is a shame, as I was hoping to not to have to open FV to take readings.

    • @DavidHeathHomebrew
      @DavidHeathHomebrew  Před 6 lety

      That would be a solution for sure, though I prefer not to open my fermenter, after all thats part of the allure of a tilt.

  • @bobbobless522
    @bobbobless522 Před 7 lety +1

    I've had mine over 8 months now. It use to be well within the mark at reading gravity and temperature, now it needs constant attention (not updating to the cloud, so have to resort to unchecking and checking the tick box in the option screen) which is not why i bought it for.
    Another issue is the updates displayed at the bottom on the app. It use to be every 1 to 2 seconds, now its about every 5 minutes, so obviously a gremlin is lurking. Wonder how long til total failure!

    • @DavidHeathHomebrew

    I was asking the Tilt people if it were possible to get a thermostat controller to read the temp value and maintain temperature as needed. They appear not to be going down that road and my Bluetooth knowledge is pretty non existent. It should work though.

      Thanks Blake be sure to check out for V2 review also. In terms of sanitization I have been using this and the V2 Tilt for every brew and have not had any issues. the money was not the issue... it was the inconsistency of the readings,,, that is the whole reason for the gadget. It is unfortunately as useful as watching the airlock if it fails to record the correct gravity... It should be noted that I use stainless fermenters and a chest freezer... iPhone is sitting on the freezer lid (as close to the fermenter as possible)

    • @ScottHarder
      @ScottHarder Před 7 lety +1

      I have had mine since mid October 2016. I've done 4 brews now with it, (I had the international battery issue and couldn't be bothered getting a new one for awhile)
      I haven't experienced the issues that you have indicated when I have a good blue tooth connection and wifi connection. On my latest brew I found that I just couldn't connect to the tilt after replacing the battery. I then changed devices and found that a second app had been released for android since my last use. as soon as I deleted the old and installed the new it connected perfectly.
      I brew out in my steel framed sheet metal clad shed which is away from my house to getting a wifi signal is problematic as soon as the shed door closes the signal strength drops just as the 15 minute transmission of the data to the web sheet occurs. the actual up gets constant data readings every few seconds. the ability to transmit the data to the web app at shorter intervals would be nice.
      With my connection issue sorted I agree with David a great little device.
