  • This is a simple way to make monofilament eyes for fly tying. These eyes work great for shrimp and crab patterns. They are a much less expensive way to get eyes on your invertebrate flies. I make these with a UV curing resin in both a large and small size. The large size is made with the Solarez "thick" formula, and the thin size is made with Solarez "thin" formula.

This is a great way to make better eyes! I have made a lot of them but stopped at burning the eye to shape. Thanks for the tip!!

Yeah, if I'm making shrimp this is something I do each time. These eyes are much better in my opinion than the ones you can buy.

Hello, are you done tying for this year? I will miss seeing you tie, but I do realize people have to go fishing too. I can't go now, wife is ill and I have to take care of her at night. I am getting tired. Hope I can continue, I don't want to let her down. All the best, Sean (If you use the nail polish that is used on acrylic nails you can cure it with your light too!)

Sean, I'm not done tying, I have been busy moving half way across the country. I will be back at the end of this month making more videos. I had to stop making them to pack, we are currently driving, and taking a small vacation in the process, stopping at landmarks along the way. Then we will be busy looking at houses to rent when we arrive. Then we need to unpack. So hopefully I can make another video by the end of the month.
I'm really sorry to hear about your wife. I am still keeping you and your family in my prayers.

I have accepted God's will, and I know I will never be ready. I have a handicap myself and am having problems taking care of her so many hours alone. Thanks for the prayers. I am glad you are coming back. I can only tie and get ideas from the videos. All the best, thanks for sharing. Sean

Are you nuts, Solarez is bvery expensive for 8 oz bottle.

    • @McFlyAngler

But it will last forever. Most brands are 1/2oz bottles for similar price. Solarez sells 1, 2, 4oz also and still better price than others, check them out

    For crayfish patterns?

OK; like to add a suggestion. I have trouble controlling the melting mono, so how about just tying a knot? I haven't tried it yet..... I'm going to try a figure8 stopper knot as it tightens symmetrically. Wouldn't even have to melt it.

Could work... Knot, snip it close, then use the UV Resin? Maybe. Never tried it. Let me know how it works.

Just made 2 pair. My knot wasn't quite as symmetrical as I'd remembered, a tad longish. The UV epoxy smooths out the overall appearance, 4 dips and it's pretty round. More epoxy than I'd hoped for, good results overall, going to try different knots. Can't nip it too close, lost one knot, can't tell it though. First experience with UV. Neat stuff.

Yeah I love UV resin! I use it as much as I can. Well when you perfect it, please tell me your secret. :)

I think this was 50…. It depends on the size of eyes I want. I use 20-50 depending
