- In 1996 Sheila planted a letter at Brooke and Ridge's home saying Brooke bribed the doctor to change Bridget's paternity results which she has mixed up originally. This was payback for Ridge insisting Brooke have nothing to do with Sheila. Ridge left. Eric with Stephanie's great help turned his back on Brooke. Stephanie gloated and told Brooke to leave town. Brooke was brokenhearted. She left to go to Paris but had a mental breakdown and ended up in Barbados. Ridge went to search for her.
In 1993 when Bridget was born. Eric was convinced that he was the father because the baby was born exactly 9 months after the night he and Brooke slept together and Brooke had carried the baby to full term. Brooke saw that Eric was right. Sheila then overheard Brooke telling Ridge that it seemed very likely that Eric was the father. Sheila was afraid that this would cause Eric to run back to Brooke and she didn't want to lose Eric. Sheila snuck into the hospital, took Eric and Ridge's blood samples, placed them in a rotating test tube holder one across from the other, took the labels off and was about to switch the labels when Mike walked in on her and caught her in the act. He made the test tube holder spin fast with the samples still in it. This made it impossible for Sheila to tell them apart. Sheila had no choice but to guess which one was which and hope for the best. But what Sheila didn't know is that while she was at the hospital lab, Dr. Peterson informed Brooke and the Forresters that a full pregnancy is actually 40 weeks not 9 months(9 months is just the ballpark figure), which meant that it was also possible that Brooke conceived as early as 10 days BEFORE her night with Eric... IF she and Ridge were intimate at anytime during those 10 days(which Ridge and Brooke couldn't recall), which meant there was still an equal chance that Ridge could be the father. The test results showed that Ridge was the father so Sheila saw that she succeeded. Of course, for 3 years, the viewers knew that Bridget's paternity was still up in the air. Was it really Ridge's sample that matched up to Bridget or was it Eric's sample with Ridge's label on it?
Then in 1996, Brooke stopped being friends with Brooke after Ridge insisted on it. Then a letter turned up saying that Brooke had bribed Dr. Peterson to name Ridge as Bridget's father. When the Forresters heard of this, they tried to contact Dr. Peterson to see if the letter was authentic but they found out that she had been killed in mugging. They decided to have the letter analyzed to see if it was Dr. Peterson's handwriting but the letter mysteriously disappeared. Eric demanded another paternity test on Bridget. Brooke refused. So Stephanie made a deal with Brooke, if they retested Bridget's paternity and the results revealed Ridge as the father then she would welcome Brooke into the family. Brooke agreed then. So Bridget's paternity was retested and the results revealed that Eric was the father. This devastated Ridge and Brooke, seeing the image of their little daughter shattered.
I wished they hadn't screwed that up, Ridge should have been the father. They always doing that, still got me mad.
Maybe it was always planned that way, to see Ridge get really attached to Bridget and for him and Brooke to finally have their happy life in order to set them up for a tremendous heartbreak 💔 when the truth finally came out. That’s part of drama.
