    Trains 21 is a documentary of railroading in the 21st century and a look at the fascinating world of transportation. On this channel we deal with all aspects of trains with a strong focus on the Northeast USA.
    The goal is for you to learn a lot in a short amount of time.. A major infusion of knowledge in just a few minutes.. And if those few minutes distilled some of the best railroad information in the industry, we feel that we've done our job..
    The trick is clarity.. Clear, concise and on point.. New videos are uploaded frequently and if you like what you see, comment, like and subscribe (in that order!).

    BNSF has had one (1) of these Jordan Spreaders up in their Yard in Galesburg, IL, for several years. Enjoy seeing them in Action on Old Videos. Thanks AC. 👍🙏

    ChainsawN&W1218, nice MOW compilation, those Loram rail grinders are neat to see in action filmed My first one ever last year in Christiansburg VA on NS Christiansburg District!👍🇺🇲🛤🚂

    The train appearing after 3:00 is a rail grinder, if anyone is curious. Smooths the rails.

    I've caught a few MOW pieces of equipment at work. I like seeing them in action. I still have to see a ballast train laying down ballast though. Excellent video AC.

    Nice video! Funny how I suddenly learn about the track restriction signs right after watching a video about railroad signals.

    They use to use a Jordan spreader on tracks beside my house, but haven't oin over 25 years since NS abandoned the line and it's now ran by Gennessee and Wyoming. Last month they were using Herzog ballast train cars on the same tracks.I have seen a rail grinder train in action on NS in Chattanooga, TN, was several years ago, but I didn't get to film it.

    I haven't seen 1 in years but NS used to run a ballast cleaning train was about a dozen or so cars and pulled by a regular locomotive. Had a special car behind the locomotive that scooped up the ballast and it would go through the different cars and remove excess dirt,pieces of broken ties and old spike plates and spikes. It would put the cleaned ballast back on the tracks near the rear of the train as it went by slowly around 5-10MPH.

    Definitely the first time hearing a defect detector saying a train was too slow, interesting.

    • @csrrjefflloyd6496
      @csrrjefflloyd6496 Před rokem +1

      I would say the detector was referring to the Loram unit.

      @@csrrjefflloyd6496 Ah, because these rail grinders have to move as slowly as possible to make sure they don’t miss a spot, which is kind of problematic for the defect detectors along the section of track the grinder is running on.

    I never knew what all those colored flags meant. I know a blue flag means stop track out of service. I just watched your Harrisburg Documentary found that very interesting. One question i saw a weird piece of equipment on a small spur track that branches off where the Middletown and Hummelstown meets the N/S its sitting near the Duke St. Crossing. I took a photo of it last summer its still sitting there. Looks like a V snow plow sort of its is small. It looks like it is very old ? Never seen anything like it.

      Blue flag means non train operators are on or under/around cars. So when a box car is being loaded, unloaded or repaired the track would be blue flagged to keep a train crew from moving the car.

    I always thought those Loram power units were custom newly built models, but they are actually old heavily modified EMD GP9 and similar models with new bodies built on them.
