Very good 👏 May I ask you: did you sing Mezzosoprano before and now you changed into spinto Soprano? Best wishes from Germany 👋

I've always considered myself a soprano. Dorabella is listed as being both for lyric soprano or lyric mezzo. I'm surprised more sopranos don't sing it. Dorabella sits high in ensembles with Fiordiligi which I have heard described as difficult for mezzos. Mozart also didn't coin the term 'mezzo soprano' and labeled them all sopranos and I would venture to say all Mozart mezzo roles are interchangeable with a lower soprano voice. I am comfortable singing higher mezzo repertoire like Carmen or Dorabella. I cannot sing low Rossini on the other hand. Zwischen roles like Sieglinde and Santuzza are also listed under the spinto fach system. Singers in the past such as Sena Yurinac sang many overlapping roles such as both Marchellin and Octavian. Her voicetype sounds pretty similar to mine. I do consider myself a lirico spinto soprano. Thanks for the message! Where do you sing in Germany? I saw that you're a singer too and I enjoyed your Madamina.

@@kakate3996 Actually I don‘t sing anymore on stage…I started in 1980 with my debut at Festspielhaus Salzburg as a Solist. I sang in several theatres in Germany, from 1985-90 I was a member of the Bavarian States Opera München. Then I switched into tenor and was since 1990 a member of the Hamburg Cast of Phantom of the Opera with Peter Hofmann…After a few years I went back into opera, sang Tamino, Max, Lensky and other liric roles…Since 2002-2018 I worked as an agent for music Theatre, in Europe and USA, including the MET and Liric Opera Chicago …2 years ago I started going back in my original baritone Voice, I teach and enjoy my life…But I am always interessted in voices, such as yours 🤗

Wow, what an interesting trajectory! I'm sure you must have overlapped with some people that I studied with. I studied with Maria Spacagna and for a summer with Renata Scotto. I was about to say, definitely sounds like a baritone to me! I'm always impressed when people's careers span other aspects of opera singing such as being an agent like you did. I feel that all that experience across different aspects of opera singing only makes you a better artist. Maybe you can add me on Instagram or Facebook so that I can pick your brain more! Thanks for the compliments!-Kate Norigian
