Queensryche's "Operation: Mindcrime" is generally accepted as the best concept album ever recorded.

Back then I was in a band and my band mate's DAD came down with Parkinson & Alltshiemers. We all loved him dearly. While I was doing hospice for him, we stopped at a garage sale. The only thing that I got was a cassette for 50 cents.
When we played it in the car THIS was the song. I can't tell you how I cried. To me, this was his mind, in this confused state. I made a copy on paper for my band sister.
I cannot hear this without crying.🎶♥️🎶♥️🎶♥️🎶

Just saw Geoff Tate perform 5 months ago and he's still killing it vocally..Try I Don't Believe In Love , Empire , Take Hold Of The Flame , Jet City Woman.. so many great songs.

In his prime, Geoff Tate was one of the best male hard rock/metal vocalists ever. As another commenter stated, this song is atypical for Queensryche. Their concept album “Operation Mindcrime” is phenomenal. I also recommend the 1980’s live performance of “Take Hold of the Flame” in Japan.

This is unlike most Queensryche songs, very much a rock ballad. Try Eyes of a stranger to hear Geoffs insane range and how different he and the band are compared to this song.

This was on hourly rotation on MTV in 1990. I'm sure it has been in many movies set in that time period. It is a beautiful song.

I was 16 when this song came out and from that era there are 3 ballads that I, as a young guitarist had to learn. This along side Extreme's "More than words" and "Whole Hearted". It took a long time to get it right but I can still play it. Little did I know that years ago when I was roomies with a couple who eventually had a son. He was fuzzy cried a lot and wouldn't sleep. I don't remember how it happened but I was playing Silent Lucidity in my room and all of the sudden no more baby crying. For the next year I played that song everyday because of whatever reason it calmed the baby down and made him sleep.

This track is from their 1990 album "Empire". Here's their other amazing hit (the last track on their incredible concept album "Operation Mindcrime", which came prior to this one, and really put them into the forefront of prog metal. This one - "Eyes of a Stranger" - is the final track. Take note of Geoff Tate's vocal range: czcams.com/video/A4duZjxusGM/video.html Queensryche is well worth a deeper dive.

Yes, a ballad! Beautiful! Remember Geoff''s lower notes in this song, and his warm, rich tone....then take a stroll over to "Take Hold if the Flame" Live in Tokyo 1984 and check out the other side of Geoff's singing abilities. And remember its LIVE.
    Nobody belts like Geoff!
The rest of the band is also seriously spectacular! The BEST live shows Ive ever seen!
"Operation: Mincrime" the entire album in sequence is a MUST. One compelling story told in flashback. Completely brilliant!
Original lineup Queensryche were fantastic songwriters, lyricists, musicians, and....the VOCALS!
I hope you do more QR, you won't be sorry!

I wonder at some of the suggestions people make to introduce reactors to certain bands. This is so not their usual style. This was their biggest hit of course, but they are a metal band.
Geoff Tate was one of the great classic metal voices along with Dickinson, Dio, Halford, Kiske, etc. But some of their best music since the 80's has been their recent stuff with their "new" singer.

As acknowledgement to your colombian heritage I've gone down a rabbit hole. I've found quite a few groups. Los yetis seems one of the older ones dating back to the mid 60s. Also Los flippers and carbure. Also a colombian symphonic metal band called athemetis. Lots on utube of them

    Hi Daniel,
This is the first progressive metal band that I totally fell for in the 80s. I went to several concerts just to see them support bigger bands. In 1984 they supported DIO in Sweden and they had better sound than the headline (DIO). I was of course pleased to see and hear the legend Ronnie James Dio. 😊
In 1992 I went all the way to outside Copenhagen (Denmark) to see them as one of the support to AC DC. The lineup that day was (in order):
    - The Black Crows
    - Queensryche
    - Metallica
    - AC DC
Please consider another of their fantastic songs, as this was one of the "ballads". One great live song is "Take hold of the flame" Live in Tokyo 1984:
