    Love to see the old iron! My grandpa had a 4020 that was a power shift and side console as well. I don’t know the year but he used it all the time running the feed wagon and a back up loader tractor. Can’t wait to see you guys restore that one back to its former glory.

    Merry Christmas . The 4440 was the tractor that almost broke alot of farmers around me . Or so I've been told. Neighbor told me he was paying close to 20% interest . They are a great tractor and won alot of tractor pulls in the 80s

    • @joshverburg6995
      @joshverburg6995 Před 6 měsíci +3

      The farmer was the one who signed the loan paperwork on the 20% loan. The farm crisis/interest rate insanity broke a LOT of farmers!!!

    On the 4520 decal on the hood that will say “John Deere limited Winnipeg Manitoba subsidiary of Deere and co” is a decal that was put on a tractor that was sold new in Canada at the specific branch house, there’s Hamilton, Winnipeg for sure and I think Regina and Calgary but not positive on that. I have the Hamilton and Winnipeg decals made up if you want it back on when you restore it.

    Loved your video. I grew up on the seats of 2 4320s and a 70 4020. Still have the 4020 and a 4440. Just bought a ps 4520 last year.....so you hit me dead center. Lol. I am pretty sure a 72 4020 would have a glass fuel filter. The side console started in 69. Keep posting as you work on them!

    Nice lineup. I always liked the look of the 1468's. Our neighbor had a new one for about a year. It only took that long for him to trade it on a 1466. The 68 was a hog for fuel not to mention the crankshaft issues. On another note? We have a John Deere 4020 that according to the model number? Is a 1970. My Dad bought it new in the fall of 1970, he traded his 730 diesel off on it. Anyway, It is a sychro w/ side console hydraulics. Just like you, I thought 71 was the first year with it. But, I guess not. I wonder if that may have been when you could get a power Shift w/side console. Nice line of oldies you have there.

    Mike is very knowledgeable on the details of those tractors. My dad was a Deere dealer in central Illinois during the ‘60’s. I still remember the day that he commented that he was selling 4020’s for $1.00 per lb. I believe the tractor that prompted that was probably a ‘67 that had an MSRP of $8700. Also, what can you tell me about that walking plow that was behind the 4440?

  • @spike3082
    @spike3082 Před 6 měsíci

    Part of the problem with the motor in the 1468 is the motor was detuned for ag use the motor was the newest top of the line motor for the ih commercial trucks you hit the nail on the head with the horsepower race in the early 70's so the ih ag division went to the truck division for the motor and tuned it for ag use my uncle used to have 2 1568's so thats how I know the origin of those motors

    • @ryanroossinck7431
      @ryanroossinck7431 Před 5 měsíci

      The motor did come from the truck line, but it definitely wasn't a top of the line deal. DV550s were most often found in city delivery trucks and box trucks. Definitely not intended to be a line haul motor (or a farm tractor motor). IH probably wouldn't have even built it had it not been for the whining of sales & marketing guys at Harvester after Massey released the 1150 with a 510 Perkins V8 (which was used in city buses and delivery trucks).

  • @danmcgowan8563

    So where is the Oliver 1850? I do not support the JD brand the 1468 is cool there were quite a few around here in SE Minnesota, ( And yes they were rattlers and were cheap. Nobody wanted to gamble on those V8's}
