IMO that was probably one of the tamer brutals considering it was Pokemon, still got the question wrong though both me and him. The dude was way off but probably because he didn't know it.

So glad to be a part of the experience! I'm the guy that was filming the audience at the start, wearing the Splatoon 3 Tri-Shred Tee.
I love how this ranges from "Who's Mario's girlfriend?" all the way up to "What's the calendar-based, one-day-per-year easter egg in this 27 year old, stand-alone, semi-niche game, for the Sega Saturn?" when many of the contestants have never even SEEN a Sega Saturn or a single piece of media that even tangentially mentions Nights: Into Dreams.

I was shouting at my screen saying ohh I know that one!! I wish I was there to answer that question because of I had a massive hyper fixation towards NiGHTS into Dreams in my teen years.

I'm one of the contestants in this video (The one who cosplayed as Edmond Dantes aka the person in the fancy suit and hat) and man it was a very pleasant experience! I didn't make it very far unfortunately but I'm glad that I was fortunate enough to participate the show in the first place! The crowd was awesome too! Looking forward to the next time TRG's come back to Otafest!
That first Brutal Question is one where (if you have any knowledge of Pokémon) you either know the answer right away or feel stupid for not knowing the answer when you're told because it seems really obvious in hindsight. Like, of course the two Pokémon that learn Transform are the two Pokémon that never received any new forms. They received all the new forms.
Edit: Speaking of Brutal Questions, how fitting that April was asked about April Fools' Day.
This is the first Thrown Controllers show that I got to attend live in person! Didn't get the opportunity to be a contestant, but it was really fun being part of the audience nonetheless! I enjoyed it lots, and I hope to see you guys at future Otafests!

Kind of a shame that ConBravo probably isn’t coming back. Otafest is the only Canadian convention that TRG will be going to for the foreseeable future. Least it’s in “Jonland” so it’ll be easier on Jon for once!

@@millerkarageanes1562 If I have the right of it, it went under new ownership after the 2019 con and everything regarding it went dead silent ever since the start of the pandemic.

for "The Cake Knight Rises", that movie is in Royal specifically. That's why you might not have seen it. Royal also includes one of my other favorite movies: "Dragon, Like a Yakuza."
They really should have a soft foam little controller they sell during these events. A controller safe to throw!

I paused the video to try and guess the Pokémon Brutal Question, I don't think I would have been able to guess before they press for an answer but I was able to think of Mew before I brought up the Pokédex to figure out what the second was (Ditto). Excellent question, and maybe the only Brutal Question I would have ever had a hope of knowing if I were able to compete
I regret not going to OtaFest, I had no reason to go but when I heard you guys were hosting thrown controllers in Calgary I felt like the stupidest man alive. At least a couple friends of mine went and told me their experience and they bought me a pin to make me feel better. (Would have loved to meet Emile irl)
I was almost 7 months pregnant for Otafest, I canceled the whole weekend plan we had, but I went for the day of the panel. I felt like if I didn't go I would've regretted it. It falls on mother's day next convention so hopefully 🙏 TRG and Neil Newbon I'll drop my card instantly 😂

For the Nights April Fools question, my guess was it tricked the player into thinking it was deleting the save data, like a sanity effect from Eternal Darkness. I do believe Nights came out before Eternal Darkness, but I have never played it so I didn’t know.

They probably figured that the two cons were close enough in dates that people wouldn’t have time (or the budget) to see both AND participate in both shows.

Probably just ended up not attending any of the cons is my guess.
@@Warrior_of_Fire Masae was definitely there for MAGFest as Brett was there too. She wasn’t at Otafest however.
Masae was winding down her con appearances this year, and Tim wanted to get more involved with running the show, so I asked her if she was cool with Tim doing her role and she agreed. This way she didn't have to block off her time for TC every con we all ended up going to.
Considering emile is here and something seems to have happened between the two (theres several examples) probably because of that
