    Whats up guys! My name is Kenji and I am currently a medical student at King's College London after graduating from the University of Birmingham with a Bachelor's degree in Medical Science (BMedSci). In this video, I talk about my experience sitting the UCAT exam during my application to medical school in the UK.
    If you enjoyed the video, please give it a like and a comment so I know to make some more! Also please show support by sharing it with a friend who's also interested in Medicine :)
    Thank you so much!

( my est is in a month and I’m not seeing any progress and scoring really REALLY badly)😰😭🤯

      @@aaliyahpatel2819 well, I sat mine today and I was a very disappointed with my score😭 and I practiced for a total of two week. Just make sure you get enough sleep the day before your test. Don't underestimate quantitative reasoning or situational judgement. Personally I found verbal reasoning to be the hardest as the 11 passages were very long which made scanning for keywords a lot harder. Also you don't realise how limited the time is until you are actually sitting the real exam so definitely practice timing yourself. I hope I wasn't too late, good luck! ☺️

    I got 600 average in the UCAT last year and I still managed to get 3 interviews. There are unis that won't look at the UCAT at all to select for interview (e.g. Cardiff) and of course there's always the BMAT. If I had got a higher score I would have had more of a choice of unis to apply to, but a low UCAT score isn't the end of the world!

    Do not let the UCAT worry you! I sat both UCAT and the GAMSAT, didn't do fantastic in either but still got a place to study Medicine because of a strong personal statement and interview performance.
    These exams are important, and definitely require thorough and proper preparation but there is so much more that goes into a medical application. As Kenji said, a strong concise personal statement is critical and really does give you a strong footing going forwards. If you're struggling on getting it on paper, I'd recommend contacting your careers team at your school/University, they can help a lot.
    Echoing Kenji's closing point, it is important to research what each University looks for when considering an application as it can play in your favour. Do they want a large amount of work experience or are they more focused on academic achievement? It is also important to note that depending on the University you apply to, the entry exam (at least for GEM) sometimes only acts as a gate before interview which after you pass through is not considered again unless you are put on the waiting list.
    Stay strong, stay motivated and you WILL get there!

    Completely agree! There’s so much scaremongering out there- you need to play to your strengths. It’s all about tactics. I got 650 and still got 4 interviews, as I applied for GCSE heavy (not UCAT heavy) med schools, as my strengths were in my GCSEs.

      @LOrd-fw3lb Před 4 lety +2

      @@mrdalachini1531 yeh it's fine- i got five 8s and four 9s. but in most med schools when they're totalling GCSEs, 8s/9s are all under one bracket (like the old A*), so I don't think it would've made any difference if I'd have got nine 8s. Most people apply to GCSE heavy schools with mainly 7s/8s/9s, but some of my friends got a few 6s and still got in- it's just about playing to your particular strengths and applying tactically.

      @@foziamahroof1358 definitely check for 2021 entry, but last year, the GCSE heavy ones i applied to were Cardiff, Hull York, Liverpool and Nottingham. Other relatively GCSE heavy ones were Queen's Belfast, maybe Keele or B'ham too. Go on medic portal and search 'where to apply with low ucat' and 'medium ucat' for 2020 (they have articles from previous years eg 2018 but they may not be relevant anymore). The unis that come up are more GCSE heavy. There's always BMAT unis too if you're not interested in the ones that come up.

      Omg I love your channel and reading this comment fills me with a lot of faith and hope as I’ve been really in a rough mental place recently due to the ucat is preparation- I’ve gone a whole month of not seeing and progress and I have a month left until my test so I’m feeling really panicked- I’ve tried everything, every technique and I’m making really slow progress ( like 2% every day on medify, if that- some sections I’ve DECREASED my score!) it’s just so worrying because my average scores for each section range from around 500-600 and band 2 and I NEED to get better. If you don’t mind sharing what did you score and which uni’s did you apply to which didn’t weigh the ucat as heavily( just so I have an idea of some) also if you don’t mind sharing your ucat experience- thank you :)

    you said your friends got into medical school a different way (without taking/passing UCAT).. how did they do that?

    • @DoctorKenji
      @DoctorKenji  Před 3 lety

      mostly by applying to unis that don't consider the UCAT and also they did other entrance exams like GAMSAT and BMAT

    I have my ucat on September 12th I've been averaging 2420-2460 , I'm really depressed atm because I really want to study dentistry at KCL but I'm really worried my ucat will turn out low and will stab my morale.

      @adamgil4159 Před 4 lety

      Cardiff don't look at the UCAT so there's one. You will want to apply to med schools that don't look at UCAT because (just being honest) with that score it's practically impossible to get an interview at unis which assess the UCAT. Start preparing for BMAT bro. You got this!

    • @rizterbetos7882
      @rizterbetos7882 Před 4 lety

      @@adamgil4159 really? they must use it to rank applicants for interview or something like that. Yes I am considering taking the BMAT. I have looked at a few questions and it looks like something i'll be more comfortable with. I am currently year 13, covid has really made the application process difficult!!!

    • @adamgil4159
      @adamgil4159 Před 4 lety

      @@rizterbetos7882 My bad. For 2020 entry Cardiff generally didn't look at your UCAT unless applicants had very similar applications. Idk about 2021 entry since this whole covid situation could have changed things. I believe they are now putting extra weighing on gcses grades so if you have strong gcses then i'd definitely think about applying. Think Cardiff's open day is today so you might wanna check that out. I'm also in year 13 so I know how you feel...
