  • Most modern cities come with a master plan; sometimes, these plans are not followed. This has been the case in the federal capital city of Nigeria for a while now. But we have a new minister who has sown that he is here to work and has since started clearing out the things that are not meant to be. The question in this video is how would you have done this if you were the minister.
I hope you find the vlog exciting and give it a Like.

This is a welcome development. I identify with the person who said Abuja City is not for everybody. It’s not to exclude anyone from opportunity but to maintain a certain order. The Govt can arrange periodic street market or boot sales on some certain days in some certain areas or parks for upcoming traders who can’t afford a shop; But to erect a permanent stand by the road side is unacceptable and dangerous.

,grate video, Nigeria should at least have one clean organized state and it should be the capital. I noticed in your videos on the northern states such as JOS, it's very clean and tranquil. The government should start arresting repeat offenders and destroy everything they have. It's hard but it has to be done. It is not a nigerian problem, it's a african problem. The only thing the government should do is build more affordable markets. But nobody should be allowed to sell on the streets, especially in the city center. Lagos is a complete hell hole, although the local government is trying to control it.

We're not living in animal kingdom in Nigeria. People regardless of their economic status cannot derail the vision and development of a proposed capital city. If this radical approach is not employed they'll quickly turn Abuja to Lagos.
The police needs to start arresting those people and imposing fines for their illegal commercial activities. Until Nigerians are made to face consequences of lawlessness they'll never stop.
Sentiment is suffocating Nigeria. The law enforcement should do their job and get rid of all those people including street hawkers.
If you can't afford an area don't live there. There are many places within their budget they can live in Nigeria. This is crazy.
The sanctity of our beautiful capital city must be returned.

Bigwillz, what you guys should be highlighting is the injustices being carried out. Yes, Wike is hard working, but he can't direct his hard work on the weak. What is the punishment that he will give to people like Bala Mohammed and Musa Bello? Also, what type of punishment will he give to the people in his ministry who have caused all the havoc?
I am absolutely freaking angry with what has taken place in Abuja. These Ministers have collected money privately and allocated lands that people bought with their hard earned money without reallocating the owners of such lands. What type of government justice is that? In the past sixteen years, all we had was incompetent stewards, who allowed people to do anything anywhere, collecting bribes here and there. How can one explain the non performance of the past Minister of FCT. Yet we had sycophants praising their every move. Wike needs to talk to these people to give an account of their tenures to explain the irresponsibility.
The workers in the ministry are outright corrupt ywt he had the audacity to ask them if they had some lands to their name. These people are simple thieves who have lived on the sweat of poor Nigerians. Instead of tackling the inefficiencies of the ministry, he is concentrating only on demolition.
He should come out and tell us who has taken responsibility for producing fake plots, giving to their accomplices to sell to unsuspecting members of the public and making fake C of O's using the names and signatures of past AMMAC Chairmen, those who gave building plan approvals to people for lands that don't exist. There are various infractions and infringements that have been committed on the FCT that he needs to look into. To the best of what I know, most of the workers in the FCDA need to be sacked. Even to this point, they are still going around collecting bribes but insist not to collect the money in person and for the money not to be paid into bank accounts so that it can't be traced.
If the Minister wants to be honest and to perform incorruptibly, these actions have to be holistic. He can't take knee-jerk decisions and think he is proving a point. Has he seized the plots of lands that the past Ministers allocated to themselves and family members in spite of their poor performance? They obviously allocated many lands to themselves, and because they had stolen money, they were able to build on the lands.
There are disticts that have roads that the various governments refused to work on because they don't have lands in those arears like Katampe which is exactly opposite Maitama because the high and mighty do not have plots allocated to them there. All other infrastructure has been built around this particular place, yet Wike says he will go round revoking lands. How do people just go round and randomly build in bushes? Some people have even built on roads and on top of sewage or drainage areas because the government refused to build these infrastructures before they could build their houses. There are people who built houses in these bushes more than fifteen years ago and couldn't have people inhabit them because of no roads, water and electricity. Today those houses are dilapidated and look like ghost towns. Is that fair use of anybody's money, if it wasn't stolen? People spent so much money building houses, only for them to be demolished without compensation out of no faults of theirs. How fair is that when the culprits or perpetrators go free.
Also, in dustricts that don't have infrastructures when people don't build, land grabbers invade, move in and seize their lands and threaten them constantly even with guns at times. Then, when you decide to secure the land, the Development Control appear and put stop message until you give them a bribe so that they leave you alone.
What is Wike doing apart from demolition? He is not putting effective and efficient systems in place that are watertight, whereby citizens wouldn't be exploited. Documents get into that ministry for years, ten, and fifteen, the best i can remember without coming out if you don't bribe. What about setting up institutions where we don't need to see anybody to pay our ground rents, where we can go on line and see the status and owner of a particular piece of land or property before buying so that people are not constantly dumped? What about setting up an online platform where people automatically know the percentage to pay when lands/properties change hands without necessarily having face to face meetings with these people? It is this face to face meetings with these workers that create corruption and open the pandoras box because every time you meet a worker, there is a tendency for them to ask for a bribe. Things should be decentralised in such a way that corruption is minimised to the barest. These people once they see people in the cause of discharging their duties, they have a way of making you know that you need to give money without telling you. They find a way of going round to look for proxies to do their dirty jobs. For every bureaucracy that is created, it is the masses who suffer because they have to end up paying bribes on every table.
There is an institution that was created by Bala Mohammed called AACTRIS. Please ask Wike to look into that office. People paid their money because he claimed he wanted to harmonise the C of Os with the AMAC Area councils but more than twelve years after it was created not one document was handled yet people were asked to pay N150,000.00 per paper. What did he do with the money apart from enriching himself to become the governor of Bauchi State. The next minister didn't touch the institution either, and now these have been passed to Wike. Let him ask for those documents to see how irresponsible, inefficient, and ineffective this ministry, including its workers, has been. Where is the fault of the public here?
You can never go to any of the departments and get anything from them. How on God's earth could these people sign and grant planning plans, approvals and permission to people with lands that don't exist? When he ask these people, they say they don't know who granted them. Then why did they allow the developments to take place if they didn't know and were in agreement with these plans. The mess that has been created in Abuja came from the workers in the ministry, and they must be punished and people compensated for these misdirection. That is the way that justice, fairness, and equality are carried out. Until Wike does this, he is just scratching the surface. He will make more money when people pay for selling their properties. What is the point of paying ground rents for plots that are not even serviced after thirty years of allocation. One buys a land that has a lifespan of fifty years and thirty years after, and there is no infrastructure. Yet the government expects miracles that people should risk their lives and build in these bushes. How right or fair is that? Wike must and should compensate people whose lands are collected by government for whatever reasons or purposes and allocated for different reasons. People bought these lands with their hard earned money, and some even bought them with their pensions to pass down to their children. There is no rule nor law that says people can't buy and sell lands with Right of Occupancy. The government shouldn't be seen to be stealing from the citizens.
These are some of the few problems that I observed in Abuja after leaving the country for nineteen years. Before we left, Mallam El Rufai had tried his best to sanitise the place, but the Ministers following after him just destroyed the place, and we were absolutely shocked and taken aback at what we saw in 2022. Lawlessness and wreaklessness everywhere. What we have gone through just fighting the injustices in Abuja is beyond what I can write in this article. The fight is still ongoing, and we are spending so much money in this process because of the FCT administration, which has been terrible and crap in the past sixteen years. Considerations are needed in whatever actions Wike takes because there was an administration in place that allowed all these infractions to take place. He has only the past ministers and the workers of his ministry to blame. Before he can proceed, he must look into all the loopholes that allow or call for bribery. These workers are wolves in sheep skin. On TV, we can see the body language of these people that they are afraid, bitter, and angry because he is trying to take away food from their mouths. How long and how strong Wike will be to take on this without succumbing to pressure or his health being affected is left to be seen in a few months The work is much and these people will try to sabotage every action of his. All they are interested in is the gains they make in their positions.
I just needed a platform to vent out all my observations. People need to speak up because Wike is being lied to by the same criminals.

@Bigwillz go ahead and make a video. These things need to be highlighted. We have gone through hell just because of what has been happening about the administration of Abuja. Everything we worked for in the past eighteen years abroad fizzled out of our hands within this period due to all the fakery in Abuja. There is hardly anyone to help you sort out or solve any problems you encounter. We can't go on like this. Everything I wrote in the article above, we have gone through it. What we came down in 2022 and saw is beyond what I can write here. We need young people of your generation to be very vocal, if not these people are going to lie and lie to Wike and get more compensation while the people they have destroyed due to their lack of action or inaction bear their pains and lost alone. Please feel free to use anything, even if it means calling the attention of the minister. If one could sue past ministers and workers of FCDA, we will go ahead and do so. The damages were beyond one's imagination to fathom. We live abroad, and every day, we are still fighting and wasting money in Nigeria because of lands we acquired with our hard earned money that we toiled and sweated to accumulate.

      @eunicelar9746 Před 11 měsíci +1

@Bigwillz we came into Abuja in 2022, and for the ten days we stayed in the hotel, they ran the generator. The day we left for the airport, we travelled in total darkness in the whole city. We arrived at the airport, just because our driver made a mistake and parked at the wrong place unknowingly, these people charged us fifty thousand Naira. How can you ask people to pay that type of amount for a small mistake in a country where people earn a minimum wage of thirty thousand Naira? Yet one can never find anywhere to seek redress. Shout it out loud for President Tinubu to hear, (after all he seems to listen to the young people ) that of he fails to institutionalised everything, digitised, formalise and computerise everything about government, when he leaves office, things will get back to square one. There is no point in him fixing for those following to come and destroy like it happened with everything that El Rufai started. I do not know if Bala Mohammed and Musa Bello go to bed at night thinking that they did a good job while they were Ministers. It is a shame that people are appointed into office, and while they are there, all they do is line their pockets with those of the families without thinking of the consequences for the masses. To Know if these people are not guilty, let the Minister set up an institution for the registration of properties and lands with the names of the owners and see how many will be registered in the names of these people. People should then be called upon based on their jobs and businesses to justify how they acquired these properties. Also, it will help the government collect taxes efficiently, effectively, and also allow the citizens to go and see who owns what property before buying. Where I live, I don't need to go and talk to anybody before I do anything. I have never known the road to any office because I wanted to do anything, even to get my passport renewed. The very first time you go to get your picture taken is the last time you see them. Once you fill the form and send to them, like magic they always tell you to give them two weeks, but the next day after sending your documents, you find your passport on your floor in the house. Even creating all these measures where people never go face to face for anything will revive the post office because people will have to buy stamps to send out their documents hence there is job creation because more people will be employed as post men. Vetting will also be very important.
Another thing I want to say is that I have never known where the NEPA office is situated. All you have to do is to read your meter for those who have readable ones and email them and for those who have pay as you go, if they don't buy points, they won't have lights and nobody cares. If you don't pay for your consumption, your lights will be cut off immediately. In Nigeria, you have NEPA workers bringing random bills to people and intimidating them to play ball and pay bribe. If you can pay, then your lights are left on. If you don't, then you are harassed. The reasons why NEPA has the problems it has are because there are too many illegal connections and people connive with the workers to avoid paying. Many workers are supposed to be employed, and their sole duties are to go to disconnect houses that don't pay their bills, not to go making deals with people. Every meter should be registered, and the people themselves are either calling to inform about their units so that they know how much to pay if not workers are sent to disconnect.
The problem we have in Nigeria is too much face to face interaction where once people see their tribes men they can do away with murder. These things must be and should be decentralised for ease of doing business. Things should also be random so that there is no connivance. If Tinubu fails one of these basics, the next irresponsible leaders will come and destroy his legacy.
Last but not least is the court system. There is no reason why the courts should take more than a few months for any case to be decided. Even the EFCC is now a corrupt institution where you take a problem to them, until you inquire again, they don't tell you anything and they can go on and on with a simple case without any repercussions. Is the EFCC not supposed to be the most incorruptible institution in Nigeria? Are they not supposed to act like detectives. When one has a case with EFCC, they don't tell you but delay taking action so that you ask them if you can give something. An EFCC officer asked us to allow them to provide a better lawyer who could handle our case and get results, but we decided to use our own lawyer. Now, it seems like they are dragging their feet to do anything and giving excuses. They have taken months on a simple cade and would not even tell you the problem they encounter if you don't find out. Here, the police will investigate and call you to tell you at every stage and what they discovered. You people have to be intentional and vocal about the ills of our society. If not, nothing will change.
      Thanks for hearing me out.

Totally agree with City center clean up, but this cycle of demolition and reappearance will not stop as long as Abuja doesn't have a balanced city development approach, besides, all these demolished places would be left this way with the ruins, give it 2 years or so, they would be back, like you suggested, the other area councils need developments else the trooping into town to do business would keep fuelling this, and if they are designating places for people to trade, affordability should be the focus. The cost to rent a stall in the city is crazy. I don't think the govt is serious about finding lasting solutions, all they do is demolish and hope the problem goes away. The saying "Abuja is not for everyone", is very true.

I know these places you just showed us and I agree that the key is in developing the surrounding area councils. Quite frankly, it's not not that hard to do. If Wike is serious he should open up these area councils, starting with massive connecting roads, to then enable the private sector to do their thing. Like him or hate him, if El Rufai had not opened up some of these places, including that Lokogoma axis that you were in, Abuja would still be revolving around Garki and Wuse. Order is great, but affordable stores and farmers' markets are needed to break this circle. We all need the amenities these people provide. The elites buy up stores and try to make their capital by rent in only a few years. The locations of some of these shops are not even favourable for entrepreneurs. Abuja is not for everyone but we all need functionality alongside the aesthetics. You can't make suya in a plaza shop😂

Every city definitely needs to be organized. The environment should be clean and green. However, we have a large number of poor that need to eck out a living. Effort needs to be made to enable them to thrive. They must be given viable alternatives. In Asaba, they have these innovative stops that resemble busstops. They have compartments for vendors built into the walls. They have waste disposal. People can drive through and purchase goods from petty traders. It should be studied. I fear that the wealthier will attempt to dominate them. I would suggest creating more marketplaces, but it's not possible to put markets everywhere.

@Bigwillz I live in California. I was home to lay my mother, who is from Asaba, to rest, a little over a year ago. I was very impressed with their innovation of designated drive-through roadside kiosks. It has helped to keep the roads clean. They are swept often, but if vendors were selling indiscriminately, it would be unmanageable. Here in Los Angeles, sales on the side walks in certain districts were permitted when the economy became difficult.
People should appeal to Wike. He may be eccentric, but he is an intelligent man who listens. My only disappointment with Wike was his participation in election rigging. Other than that, he had an enviable tenure as governor in the aspect of infrastructure and, to some extent, security. My fear is that Tinubu may only be using him at this critical phase of his administration. He may not last in that role. However, there are guidelines. In America, people are given liberties where the government is unable to sustain them. Also, the government encourages people to work legally so that they can be taxed.
