  • The first home-grown sugar in Minnesota was produced at the St. Louis Park sugar beet plant. Planning for this historic processing facility began in 1897, with the plant opening in the fall of 1898. Learn how sugar beets were grown, harvested, and processed those first few seasons, and the hurdles the farmers and company had to overcome.

Great presentation, thank you! Very educational, including the fact that, at one point long ago, sugar beets were grown and processed practically under my today’s feet…I wouldn’t have guessed it!! Keep up the great work…history is vital!!

This is fantastic. Love the added chaska brick connection at the end.

Great video, we live out by Hutchinson and see sugar beets a lot to the west of town. Crazy to think how all this has evolved. And a lot of it comes back full circle to farmers that helped build this country!

Dairy cows love beet pulp. Helps kick up that milk production also.
