We did have these in the '90s, and '80s. Called the Armatron. Wasn't build it yourself, but it was great fun! Now you've got me wondering where I stashed mine at. Man I loved that thing.

Andy: the wires are color coded and relate to the instructions
instructions: *are in black and white* ...
the instructions have labels on them
Nice to see you having such an easy time putting this together I did it for work and it took me about two shifts. Almost all the screws have to be self tapped and putting the nut in the slot in the beginning was horrible as it doesn't fit properly.
I just finished building it but don't have any D batteries either ha ha. So I see it workgin here for the first time. It looks satisfying and pretty accurate indeed, thanks for the video.
Im gonna get this for my birthday, thank you for showing it to me.
OMG I had this exact thing as a kid... the nostalgia is to much man.
It took me a few hours to put it together.. I then disassembled it and put it back together a few weeks later. I'll probably do it a third time a month from now. I guess building something cool is also part of the fun.. :).
Ive got one myself , you think its mechanics are reallllllllly complicated but when you build it you learn how simple it really is
Cool review!!! Seems like it should be easy to convert this to RC using an eight-channel stick radio and a few small motor controllers. Thanks for sharing!!!
When you're playing Factorio and your electricity fails so the inserters move super slow.
I haven't "even" looked at the whole video and already I'm wishing that the parts were transparent. Seeing the gears moving would've been epic
Thanks, working on mine now, you made it look easy
THE GUITAR CLOCK IN THE BACKGROUND!!
You know ur video is so populaar!
It's showed in Schools!😊💕
THIS IS AWESOME!!!!
I really enjoy your videos. I hope you get more views. You deserve them!
Andy You are really awesome i loved ur other channel mist8k from all those experiments and builds it has been fantastic
I got the USB version ages ago from maplin and the arm takes ages to make. Great fun when finished though.
i suppose being that you learn while building once its made you can probably customize it quite easily, even adding mains/usb power etc and modifying the controller to be wireless
Awesome Vid, keep 'em up!
I just got this for Christmas!
Pretty good.It light weight, easy to take , the installation process is not complicated , it is suitable for children and DIY lover to play.
This looks kinda cool
The batteries are old because the kit is old as well: I have it and mine must be at least 6 or 7 years old. Love the review! Keep up the good work!
Mine too
I thought the motors wouldn't work
love it, if you wanted to you could put this in to a submarine & it could work with just a bit more work on it.
I might want that for Christmas
Awsomeeeeeeee
I won this in my Computer Science class in school, the USB one (from Maplin) and it's awesome! Only problem is that it is very weak :(
Epic
0:14 AWESOME :DDDDD
dont do what howard did in the big bang theory.......
LOL, that's what I was thinking.
What happened?
@@riythemusicguy7696 I'm not sure you want to ask that question... :-/
What other reason is there to buy it then?
Watch out for those switches - the contacts tend to snap!
Awesome video
this is cool and i know what i would do id make a mini bar out of it and make it pick up bottles and pour them in a glass fun party item
A cool thing is that the power pins from the motors fit directly onto the GPIO pins on a RaspberryPi so Python powered arm
Cool I'll check out the thumbs up website
hey andy why dont you ever do a load test to see how much weight it can handle same with the helicopter
i got the exact same robot arm kit but mine was from steren
you can buy lithium batteries that slide into a housing that simulates a dcell battery.
Thanks
Hello Andy, does the arm have position sensors such that the USB version can be commanded via a PC to position itself to a certain more or less exact position? If you get the USB version then is it really just like a joystick on your PC or can you write programs to make the arm move to certain positions in sequence? If the arm does have position sensors then does the joystick box show what position(s) of the arm and hand is/are in effect? Cheers, Ian D.
Ever since i saw this i wanted it now ur reviewing it i just gotta get 1(and I have d batteries..bolya!)
i made this! it is so cool!
loved the vid!! it would be epic if you could do a vid with the king of random that would be awsome
As they are on different continents, it could be tricky ;^>
I'm sure they use D batteries to add to the weight so it won't tip over.
I would imagine that the D batteries are there as a counter-weight for what ever you may be picking up. Just a thought.
grr is one of my favourite youtubers
Ps it takes like 7 hours but it's worth it because you can plug it in to a computer or into an old iPhone charger and slot the battery in place and because it's plugged into the wall it gives it more power than when you buy one regularly
That's sweet
Omg I got this since 6 years!
Could you do a video going through the build process step by step to help us build it?
You should say, leave a "thumbs up" as in a like because the company you always get your gadgets from is thumbs up :)
cooooooooool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OMG i have both the robot arm and the catapult i am looking at both of them right now!!! coincidence? i think not!!!!!
Hi I recently bought this and was wondering would I be able to programme this?
This should be called the "Shankatron 9000"
Nice vid
love you
Awsome
Hey Andy when i was 8 year old i build it !
Ficraft shed
I think the D batteries help to make the base heavy
I have built it it is incredibly fun
I cannot think of a single application where this would be is useful
Flexing on your friends telling them you know everything about robots
WANT ONE!!! :D
i wanna create cool robot with this
I really like it for the price other than the batteries
this toy was around in the 90's and it was loud as fuck whenever you turned it on.
This took me about 2 hours 30 minutes because I have already made a hydrolic arm , not the sameness as this one but a similar one
How long is the controller cable? Can it be extended? I'm looking for something I could use to pop the zits on my back.
I need one
hi i wander if the battery is chargeable & if not how long last one set of battery if you play with ? i want buy one for 10 years boy but i know the parents are not happy to spend tomuch money for battrys ;(
I got this one for €1,50 that's around £1 :D
I don't know if it is working, a few parts are already assembled.
COOL
My one came on Monday and it took 2 hours to make with only 1 mist8k (see what I did there!)
misteightt
Correction: That pun WAS intended.
What would it take to mod this to take a different power supply and/or run faster?
I got this and it's amazing
how firm is the grip? i might wanna get one.
It's firm
I'm guessing it uses D batteries to act as a counter weight for the things you pick up?
great
seriously.. D batteries!? Still cool though!
Nice! I would put some grip tape or hockey tape on those jaws. :)
It comes with with some sort of grippy pads that you stick on the jaws
OK
I had that for a while
please do a lego mindstorm tutorial.making a cool robot
Did nobody think that D batteries were used just because of there weight? They weigh the base down so the arm doesn't tip over when picking up objects.
Mine was slightly different i have no way of fastening down the arm to the base so when it extends it falls off
I have that!
About to buy one for our granddaughter, with my help, through our Jaycar store.
Does the 💡work?
make more where you build electroniks gadgets
I’m having lots of trouble building mine. It’s very hard to distinguish any of the screws and I’ve got to a point where the plastics don’t meet each other. There to far apart as none of the screws fit so there are lots of gaps. I’m stuck. Anyone know how to fix?
Before anyone says check your using the right screws. They look exactly the same and in the instructions it doesn’t tell you how to differentiate them. It just called the p13 and to use that but there is no way of knowing what screw is p13.
cool i would like one if i don't have to make it :)
I believe the D Battery s are for weight
I made this in school :D
how long was the over all arm?
Wow
Where can you buy this
There is a USB version. I believe maplin have it.
Good spot! £50 for that version though!
and apparently it still needs D batteries :(
GadgetsReviewGeek is it loud?
£29.99 now!
Watchall H link to usb version?
I want one but can't buy it but it is very cool
can it be programmed using arduino ?
Can i give my robot to you to build it because the part with the four piecies in the start of the instructions is very difficult to me.
Mist8k?
