- Learn how to get your own cedar trees for free (patience required). I take heel cuttings from a branch of a cedar tree that was broken off during a wind storm. The trees are still dormant which is the best time to take evergreen cuttings. The cuttings are rooted in rough sand in a well draining container or raised bed and left exposed to the elements, but with kept out of direct sun. They will only be watered during dry spells.
Species:
Eastern White Cedar
AKA Northern White Cedar
AKA Arborvitae occidentalis
Latin: Thuja occidentatis
Zone: 1 - 8
Rooting media: rough sand (specifically, big box bags of sand sold in winter as anti-slip, do not use play sand)
Propagating method from Mike McGroarty - highly recommend his channel!

Thanks for the nice informative video. I'm going to try this now. BTW, the music could be quieter.
Any luck?
Yea these ones worked!
And I think with a bit more care almost all would have survived
