KATC-TV 3 Sign Off (January 15, 1990)

Nothing but the finest gems from the thrift store! This was actually acquired yesterday, and I looked through it last night.
The person that recorded this was probably only looking to record the ABC Monday Night Movie "Unspeakable Acts," but they instead just let the tape run in its entirety. With that, I got a look at the rest of KATC's nighttime programming during that era, until the big moment came. To say that I was hyped when I found out that this was gonna be a non-stop recording that goes into a sign-off would be an understatement. The fact that I pulled this from a thrift store is an absolute testament that good things are hidden just above the surface. We just gotta know where to look and find them at the right time.
Well there's that PSA out of the way. I'll upload the commercial breaks from this tape later on, but for now, enjoy this rare piece of Louisiana broadcast TV history!

KATC also served as a "de facto" ABC affiliate for the Lake Charles area at the time.

I hope somebody is looking through central Wisconsin thrift stores the way you do in Louisiana! I'm desperate to find a sign-off from WSAW 7 in Wausau, my childhood CBS affiliate. Funny thing is I do have a sign-on recorded from around 1983, including 15 minutes of test pattern and music, but the matching sign-off always used to scare me so I had no interest in recording it.

KATC 3 is now owned by the E.W. Scripps Company, and is the ABC Lafayette affiliate and the 1990 sign-off as a conclusion to their broadcast activities aired the Mormons Star-Spangled Banner.
