Thank you so much for watching!
I have never updated the firmware on a camera unless I am notified by the camera company that this is an important "recall" type of update. I was a professional (paid) photographer from 1976 to 2008. I did make the transition to digital in the last 10 years of that but film was still crucial for some projects to the end of my professional career. Because of this I shoot mostly JPG. I use Fine mode and the largest image. This is mostly because I was used to getting things "right" in the camera. I use minus .7 stops as a default and often more. My post work is only to bring up the levels a bit and maybe a tiny boost of color. I find all of your views in keeping with this idea of getting it right when you shoot, and yes I was also a videographer from 1978 to 2010 which is why I believe in mostly in camera adjustments. Thank you for this nice video. ----- An old retired camera dude.
Always buy gear with the expectation that it's the final product-100% agree. People complaining that camera manufacturers are slow to release updates grinds my gears, I see updates as a bonus.
Love all your content ❤
Julia, you did a great job covering all the important settings that need to be considered when taking photos. Thank you for the insightful information.🎉
Thank you Julia.
Another gem, thank you. Also enjoyed the photo bomb kitty ❤
Thanks for the tips Julia! I love your cat there in the background! :)
thanks for great sharing 😍😍
Great video!!
Thank you very much
Thanks!
Thank you for this video. I'm your subscriber.
What do you think about turning off silent shooting and electronic front curtain shutter?
Hey Julia!❤❤
Many thanks for posting Julia; another brilliant range of Camera / Shooting considerations, particularly for us "Newbie's" ; as an aside, are you considering purchasing the new DJI Inspire 3?
Thanks a lot
One small tip I would like to add is take photo even if the camera has not required focus. This is good for wedding photographyon the dance floor. I stop down my lens to f4 or f5.6 and sometimes the lens auto focus is off but since I'm stopped down it will still be in focus. I have to disable this feature on Olympus.
One other tip some cameras like Olympus you have to turn on auto ISO for M mode in the menu.
nice tuto; back button focus with AFON or half press ? which focus area (spot, spot tracking, zone, wide... ?)
I just came here to say I loved your cat and video! 🩷👏🏼
Great video, Julia! Quick question: what device do you use to record your EVF? No matter where I look, the Atomos Ninjas seem to be the answer, but it seems bulky and heavy.
May I ask you to make a video regarding the settings of a camera for wedding in a church with poor lighting and what are the best framing, distance, or angles? Thank you very much!!
Very nice! :)
i love u Julia
Nice
Thanks nice video with good info. I shoot compressed RAW, but didn't realize that it slows down LR post processing.
On a modern computer the difference is minuscule. The modern processors have special enhancements for common compression algorithms just like with common video formats.
A small correction: The compressed Raw file loads faster with about half the size; it loads approximately 2 times faster in Lightroom. Some cameras also shoot faster in the buffer with compressed raw compared to uncompressed. The principle is quite simple: the raw file captures unnecessary information that is removed, resulting in no noticeable difference in quality loss during editing but with a much smaller file size. Compressed cannot be compared to a ZIP file that needs to be uncompressed, taking more time until you can see and use the actual files. Some photographers have made that comparison, but with a compressed RAW from Sony, it's just the necessary raw data, making it smaller and faster both during shooting, editing and importing. PS: love your channel !!!!
Hi I'm new to photography I just want to ask you a very simple question I use canon camera now what's the best way to photograph do I put the camera in automatic and the lens in manual or do I put the camera in manual mode and lens in automatic I honestly don't know the best way I hope you have the time to explain this to me thank you
Yes to all but only if it applies to your genre! BUT a story I read in a book about one of my cameras - A National Geographic photographer sending jpegs to HQ wanted his RAWS he sent later to be edited to look like his jpegs because it is what he saw on the back off the camera at the time of capture. An impossible thing to do due to. There are settings that only affect Jpegs and what you see on the camera screen. D-Range on Sony cameras can be set to auto or the selected setting just this one item can change how shadows are brightened to show detail and this one many settings that in Post no slider can adjust to. You can shoot RAW and Jpeg and both will look alike but different when the RAW is saved as a TIF or even a Jpeg. The point is you can learn all the settings in the camera where it edits in camera and it is the artist so to speak like today's AI's with many years of formulas embedded or you become the artist with sliders in the many post processing programs either will be great whichever you pick.
Hi, Julia
Kindly let me know whether you have noticed or know anything about Sony A7IV Shutter Breaks! I’m confused…
Thanks!
HI JULIA, THRE HAVE BEEN REPORTS ABOUT VIDEOS SHOT WITH NEW SONY ALPHA CAMERAS CAUSING MORE EYE STRAIN. ANY SIMILAR EXPERIENCE REGARDING THIS? ALSO MANY CONTENT CREATORS USING NEW FULL FRAME SONY CAMERAS ARE GETTING PUFFY AND SWOLLEN EYES DUE TO THE EXCESS STRAIN. HOW IS YOUR EXPERIENCE?
Need more animal eye AF tests feat. Olive!!
💛💛💛
Which camera use for this video plz tell ??
You are the best lady photographer 😊
What about lossless compressed vs compressed and uncompressed?
With my a7iv I have to use compressed to get 10 fps. With all other types of photography I use large lossless compressed. The size varies from 35 to 48 mb with large lossless compressed.
Lossless compressed is 100% the same data as uncompressed. The only difference is the compression. So you trade file savings for slightly more time to save and open the files. IMO one should always use lossless compressed when offered.
Julia can can't you contact Cobalt Image they have very interesting camera profiles. They even have profiles for newer cameras to get the CCD look of older cameras.
Always buy gears with the expection that it’s the final product. Very well said! I could not understand why anyone would expect random firmware update to save their ass for their poor buying decision making.
Cat with poison flower!!
Drone shot .. Portugal , Lagos ?
Curious, how do you update a lens?
To update a lens is possible with lenses of newer generations, which have a usb c plug in, or are lens station compatible. Lens stations are connectable with a pc too of course. As far as I know
Does the noise reduction affect RAWs though?
No, any noise reduction only applies to jpeg and the embedded jpeg. The exception is long exposure noise reduction which takes an image of the same length and tries to remove noise on the first file’s raw data.
@@nwcs2 this is why i believe no question is a dumb question. I actually knew the first part but she left it out. didnt know he bit about long exposure NR though

When are you goin/ live?
🐱👍
I see a cat I click the like. It's the law.
I would love to shoot raw but all these editing apps cost lots of money
Jpg’s seem to be a lot better to save these days and you get most of your editing pre-edited. Raw is an old method that takes way too much space and takes way longer to edit. There are a lot of videos out there with good results from jpgs.
It takes hardly any time to process a RAW file and external storage is super cheap. I’m not saying JPG is trash, but RAW is superior.
do not the cat
I couldn’t open my jpegs with calculator.exe
Sony users: firmware updates??? What’s that - they don’t know te meaning of that sentence, even when you have their flagship camera. 😢
I got updates on A6000 + A6500, NEX-6.

Thumbs up for your content. Thumbs down for your sponsor, PPA, who really suck as an organization for photographers (they are nothing more than a money grab for new photogs who don't know anything about sham organizations like this). It would be awesome if you had different sponsors.
If you shoot RAW video, then picture profiles are not baked in
Julia is so pretty and talented. My dream girl.
Really, isn't that a dated type of post. The lady is both very pleasant, and most importantly, competent. Aren't these the relevant attributes?
