  • Two of the best-known Zenith STOL CH 701 "Sky Jeep" pilots go flying together to compare their piloting techniques. Roger Dubbert, Zenith Aircraft's famed demo pilot, takes Jon Humberd (of "Super701" fame) flying in his personal STOL CH 701 (powered by a 100-hp Rotax 912ULS engine). Listen in as the two pilots discuss flying the popular STOL CH 701 design.
    First introduced in 1986, the STOL CH 701 aircraft was developed as an "off-airport" short take-off and landing kit aircraft to fulfill the demanding requirements of both sport pilots and first-time builders.
    With the STOL CH 701, designer Chris Heintz combined the features and advantages of a "real" airplane with the short-field capabilities of an "ultralight" aircraft. The aircraft features fixed leading-edge slats for high lift, full-span flaperons (both ailerons and flaps), an all-flying rudder, and durable all-metal construction.

    It's fun just listening to the banter of top notch pilots and they both fit that picture!

    You literally rolled it on after recovering from that gust. Nice work!

    Great video from two of the best Zenith STOL CH 701 pilots. Also good technical explanations of this super airplane👍

    Sir, Love the 701! Love the videos! Can you get a cruze 100mph (say 8000 altitude) by using the streamline struts with a reasonable cruze RPM? I know your using the 100hp Rotax, I'm considering the 130hp Viking. I'm also willing to sacrifice a little STOL performance in favor of cruze speed.

      Mine flies regularly at 100mph just above treetop level in Tennessee with the ULPower engine.

    Awsome flying there. The way Roger gets in to the 701. Dose that mean you are an acrobatic pilot 🤣👍. Speaking of acrobatic what would it take structure wise to make 7one Handel 6+ 4- Gs!?!?!🤔🤔🤔

      @mustardseedsociety Před rokem +1

      The specs are saying the load factor is +6/-3.

      Ok 9 GS and negative 9 GS then...

      @@yurimig253 I'm sure you could build such an "aircraft", but it might take a CFM56 to get it in the air !! Ha !!

      Well maybe not I mean acrobatic aircraft don't have jet engines. And some key reinforcement locations and a bigger engine with inverted carbs or double float chamber with a small pressurized tank for inverted flight might do the trick ;)

      @@yurimig253 I see what you're trying to say - I was just joking with you. For me it's a contest between the Zenith CH 701 STOL and the Bush Cat. I'm declaring the Bush Cat the winner. The Bush Cat has been spin tested at 1320 LBS and the Bush Cat load factor is +6/-4. The Zenith is +6/-3. The Bush Cat has a 10 to 1 glide ratio and I'm not sure what the Zenith is, but I do know it's not good - certainly less than 10 to 1 because I saw a Zenith video and the pilot said when you chop the power it comes down. I favor a higher Glide ratio with a few more knots of stall speed verses less glide ratio and slow stall speed. Also the Bush Cat is a much easier build. However, in all honesty, BOTH are pretty good. The Bush Cat has anti balance tabs on the rudder so it returns automatically to neutral which I think is a good feature. I have a slightly better feeling in the Bush Cat as a "production line" simply because they focus on ONE aircraft where as Zenith the intellectual capital is spread out among several models of aircraft. But I get why Zenith does that, to give the customer more choices. I'll tell you, Zenith and Bush Cat are CLOSE. I don't include other manufactures in the "hunt" because they don't offer nose wheel. Tail dragging to me is outdated. With a STOL nosegear, you can STOMP hard on the brakes and stop on a dime.

    Why call it a “jeep” if it can’t fit 4 people?

      because it's rugged and can pretty much land anywhere.
