This song and what it represented in the era it was released....I understand trying to make money and introducing it to a new audience and I appreciate seeing it in a new format, music is to be enjoyed and not judged.
Nixon and crew established the war on drugs in the USA and made Mary Jane a Schedule 1 drug(like LSD or red poppy) to infiltrate the hippies and blacks because said entities didn't believe in the war in Vietnam and were a threat. There were riots in this era before the song came out but there was a shift in thinking and luckily I found weed and beer.
What this song meant to me was even though they were suppressing us, thought maybe they would take care of us but they defunded education in the 80's, wages stayed flat and the cost of living increased until you see today increasing homelessness and poverty. Bob REPRESENTED the outcast.

I listened this song over and over and it eased the pain. It truly did. The power of music❤. One love to everyone. Wishing you all well from finland.
My little sister has been struggling with depression for 3 years. She just turned 17 and this is literally one of her favorite videos to watch when she's feeling low. I love that girl so much man, I wish her depression would just go away. She's already attempted suicide once and it pains me every time I think about it.

I could argue for the video though..
i actually dont like most of bob marleys music...
i dont have a problem with peaceful athmosphere but music for me is energy, movement, emotions... being relaxed isnt an emotion to me and i rather listen to mother nature than to music if i wanna relax.
its really hard to explain, i have no problem with people listening to raggae, but i somehow hate it myself...
