  • Just getting home from the theater to write this review and I can happily say that this film was really good. Not only does is feature fantastic performances from Lupita Nyong'o as the lead and Joseph Quinn in a supporting role, but it also has solid use of CGI effects, a beautiful score, effective cinematography, and absolutely excellent sound design...#aquietplacedayone #aquietplace #boxoffice #moviereview

I think having her carry the cat was a way to ratchet up the tension. The scenes where they were whispering to each other made me nervous, too. Loved the movie ❤

I think it was pretty clear that Joseph Quinn’s character was lonely and alone. As you mentioned, he states that his whole family is in the UK. That combined with his anxious energy can lead the audience to understand that he is just anxiously alone. That personality combined with the apocalypse that no one has had time to grasp makes sense with his actions. I appreciated that the filmmakers didn’t feel the need to give some forced dialogue of “I’m alone and scared” or something to that effect just so the audience could understand where Quinn was coming from. They trusted the audience to have enough emotional intelligence to understand what was happening. It allows the audience to figure out where he is coming from on their own. It’s a lose lose. If the filmmakers explicitly stated how alone he was, a lot of people would be complaining about insulting the audience’s intelligence and that they don’t need to have everything force-fed to them in order for them to get what is going on. If they don’t explicitly state what is happening, a portion of people will be upset for not intentionally stating what is happening. I liked the human interest focused side of this story. I didn’t need anything explained

As I mentioned its pretty weak development for his character because it really doesn't explain going to the depths he does...they could have done something much better with that

@@OMBReviews I definitely understand where you are coming from. For me personally, his actions made sense, and I could see myself doing something quite similar. However, I get the criticism about there not being a lot of “character development.” I saw him go from a timid and scared person to a charming and self-assured person in that bar scene. That really worked for me, but it seems like I am in the minority

Good to know that some people are still making good entertainment. I'm not hearing very good things about the new Captain America, and that it needs about a billion to break even....I think it will be lucky to make 300 million!

It's a pretty decent movie. Didn't blow me a way but it was intense and had great acting from Lupita Nyong'o and Alex Wolff. I'll maybe go and watch the first two now.

Saw this one. Acting was good but the script had massive holes. Ai decided a cat was necessary. I gave it a 6 it was ok but fantastic sound

After seeing a few reviews I went in keeping my expectations low and thoroughly enjoyed it! The story is full of holes to be sure, but I didn't let myself get too lost in them. I could have done without the cat. He was cute but risking one's life for an animal know for its "9 lives"--and sharp claws--was silly.
It was nice that it was clean and not obviously woke. The bit of swearing at the beginning was all I heard, and I found quite humorous.

I am guessing the director was a fan of the rings trilogy since sam is with a cat named frodo. So I suppose he is giving that film a tribute. Although I was not a fan of those films possibly because I hadn't read the books first. So the ending didn't make a lot of sense to me, until I could look it up on the internet. I have encountered cats that do not meow or hardly meow at all unless they feel threatened. It is rare but they are around. The cat may not have felt threatened by this alien to hiss at it. This could have been a possibility. The same as when a human walks up to a buffalo or penguin. They just don't react to us or hardly at all for whatever the reason. If this cat is an emotional support or therapy type of animal, then it could have been raised or chosen to not meow as much also. I haven't seen the film but it could have been something they thought up, that a lot of people would think doesn't make sense. If it is knocking stuff over accidentally or intentionally, then you would really have to like a cat to keep it around.

Yeah, when they took this movie away from Krainski and and Blunt’s family I lost interest to go see it. I was wanting to see the Day One thru their eyes and see how they ended up in the house in the first one. I put this in the same category as Fear the Walking Dead and one I don’t need to see.
