I read that this stretching method is an ode to the way women would stretch their hair in Africa. I love this method!
Oh wow! That's so cool!!!
Yes it is, it’s called banding 💛. I’ve done it before. Lot of tension on the scalp if you make it tight but it does work to stretch.
Yes this is tradition. We usually do this with thread or yarn. It works great for no heat drying.
Yes banding or they use thread which is the African threading method.
Yup! This method originated from Africa and thread is normally used :)
You're definitely the "Part Slayer"!!!
Whooped that scalp into submission ❗❗
It helps that her density is low
We do this in Zambia ( Africa) but we use cotton thread. It's actually a hair style as well🤷♀️💁♀️😂
And in Congo too sis. 😂
I was about to say the same
chanda bwalya Haiti too ☺️
This is also done in Nigeria. 🙂🌍
In Nigeria too! We have different kinds of threads for it
I'm learning how to speak and write english,so although I don't understand very well, I really love this channel.
What's your native language? You wrote that perfectly.
But you writing English Well😂
@@brooklynsmith369 what if she used a translator? 🤣
How is your study of English going now? ^^ I hope things are good!
Lol non bilingual people don’t understand that it’s possible to write in a language without understanding it properly..
Regularly trimming my hair helped it to grow longer without a whole lot of shedding and splitting.
This video came just in the nick of time as I'm due for a trim and also avoiding heat. Your hair looks so healthy! Thanks for the video!😁
So am I!
Same here 🙌🏽🙌🏽

I am way over due for one
Exactly! I have been searching four about a week for her 😊 thank you!
Kim I applaud you for how much you do as far as being a CZcamsr and having kids. Just wanted to say you are amazing cause you make it look easy and I know it's not. Keep up the good work 👌👍.
Danielle Smith she is doing such a good job. I know the struggle of being a CZcams
@@charmw8313 yes so do I! Yes she is doing an amazing job!
she has a million subscribers and super SUPER low-key about it. shoutout to her
Thanks so much for wearing a light colored shirt so we can easily see the difference!!
I've tried many of her hair methods and I have not been disappointed!! I stretch my hair with elastic band and it works perfectly. Thanks for the new tip on trimming natural hair 💕
Natural hair is a full time job. I'm breathing through the wound!😭😭😭😭😭😭
Every CZcamsr and their mama is blowing out and trimming their hair right now 😂
I have no shears😬
PreppyFay12 literally I think it’s just that time of the year! I’ll be trimming my hair this weekend too. I do it every 3-4 months
I just trimmed my hair on Sunday. And just now seeing Kim's video today. 😂
Starting off summer right! Gonna come out of summer with inches period lol!
I had to do this recently because my twist outs were coming out terribly! I never wanted to wear my hair out. After trimming, it looks so much better! We naturals cannot be afraid of scissors ✂️
It is honestly so glorious seeing how far your hair has come. I have been following since the OG TWA days and now your hair is so full and long and strong. Beautiful what patience, good diet and consistent care can do.
Thanks a bunch for being detailed.
You have beautiful healthy head of hair.
Wished I seen this before I trimmed my hair three days ago. Have to try this next time looks like such a great technique.
I have never commented on your posts but have been following you for years and loving you vegan meal preps( which helped me in what to eat after giving birth) and all your natural hair videos. My daughter’s hair replicates your strands and I am so glad you did this video because she turns 2 On Monday and I have noticed she needs a trim due to the knots that is now forming in her hair. I love watching your videos and thank you.
I've been looking for a no heat trimming method for awhile now and this looks like a winner. Thanks for sharing.
I aspire to have this type of healthy hair
Sometimes I would stretch my hair using the African Threading method. Sometimes I don't have a thread so I would use rubber bands(that has been soaked in oil so it does not pull my hair).
Where does one get the Thread? I feel like that would help me and give me better result when I band
@@agirlyhasnoname ive seen people do it with the threads for sewing weaves. just cotton thread :)

Your hair is SO Beauty-FULL! I watch you alot and I too have a lot of sheinkage... and just the other day was searching for a good diy trim video and I am so glad YOU made one because you are consistent and thorough in your teaching and the results are 👍🏾. I even learned how to do my brows from one of your tutorial!! New to this natural journey ...just had my 1 year hairversary a week or so ago. Keep us informed and God bless you!!👍🏾💪🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Been watching your vids for yrs and its soo awesome to see your hair super long and healthy. What a journey! I cut my hair off and did other things though i know that if i kept with the routine it'll be as long as yours now. I only keep up with a couple hair vixens and Ive learned (through yaw) that color is not that important if your hair just isnt healthy. Thank you for being consistent!
You made this video very easy and simple, I dont have to stand in the bathroom a two hours plus taking care of my daughter. This is more than half the time. Wow amazing Job!!!!!!!!!!!👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Thank you for this! I have been terrified of trimming my own ends but you made it look very simple and now I feel confident enough to try it!!!
Omg! Love it! Im definitely doing this for my daughter shes due for a trim and hair stylist cut way too much off.
Im abt to wash n straighten my hair. I desperately need a trim. Kim you are a God send. Thank you 🙌
Girl you read my mind!! I’m transitioning and I’m trying to not use heat on my hair, so I wanted to trim them without straightening my hair. And this help me a lot! Thank you 🙏🏾
This video is everything I didn’t know I needed in my life!!! I have been avoided heat and trying to grow my hair and this just got added to my arsenal. 🙏🏾
Thank you so much, I've saved your video. As a father, i don't know what I'm doing when taking care of my daughter hair but I'm trying and your video made trying a little easier with this guidance. I'll try it out this weekend
I feel like every time I see your hair it’s longer. You are my hair goals
This video is right on time , I have braids in as my protective style right now and I’m not using heat (including blow dryer) so I can use this technique to clip my ends as well as for hairstyles I want to do on “blown out” hair . Trying not to use heat for a year too , so far so good 🤗
I use the band method to stretch my hair and it has been super effective! Thanks for the detailed trim video ❤
i'm really glad you posted this. I am overdue for a trim and have had 2 hair appts cancelled...1 to family emergency and now coronavirus. will def be trying this
Girl you’re always on point with everything you do😍well done ✅
Ugh, I love this channel. It's informative and thorough.
“These don’t have to be perfect at all”
Make perfect part
Here because of the quarantine situation in NYC..and there is no such thing as a hair appt pretty much indefinitely. This is not super complicated. Thank you!
Thanks for sharing the steps on how to give yourself a trim on natural hair. My hair is natural as well. And I dyed mine but I'm in need of a trim and hot oil treatment and deep conditioning treatment.
Your hair is getting longer and longer Kim, very beautiful! 💕💕💕
Can we get a hair parting tutorial? (I'm struggling😭)
The hair looks and feels so much better when the straggly ends are gone🤗🤗
Hi I wanted to know if you use your other method of stretching your hair by braiding it into 8 sections, will that still work for trimming it ?
This is the content I have been waiting for for my no heat year
Really like this method. My hair loves olive oil too 💇🏽♀️
Great video! It looks very simple to do after watching your video. I was looking for something like this especially since we are all quarantine and no one can do it for me lol. Thank you so much 😊 and I hope you and your family are staying safe during this time.
My trim was very successful thanks to this video 😌. Thanks Kim 😊
I’m so overdue for a trim. You are a Godsend 🙏🏾!
Thanks for the tip! Excited to see what heatless styles you bring us in 2020! I would love to see more styles with your own hair.
Thank you so much. I'm going to trim my hair like this instead of blow drying. I haven't put heat in my hair since November and I would like to keep it that way
This way is much much better than a blow dryer, which has my hair thinning now. Thanks for sharing.
I’m sooooooooo happy to see a trim. Haven’t watched it yet, but I’m going in now 🙌🏽
Your hair is beautiful. It's been a long time since I trimmed my natural hair. I am going to try this. Thanks!
I love your videos! So helpful and peaceful! 👸🏾 Don’t stop!
Excellent method, crystal clear demonstration, and beautiful hair - thank you!!
This was well done but i Just cldnt help myself from realizing how you didn’t cut then in angles and not just pulling tge hair downwards because depending on the hai position on the head, there are ends that wasn’t even trimmed. But still a good job
Definitely trying this tomorrow!!! Can’t wait to see my results as I plan to record it. Wish me luck!
Amazing method! Thank you so much for sharing, definitely doing this for my next trim.
The banded pieces gave me a Coolio flashback. But that's the norm whenever I do banding too! Thanks for the video!
you're hair is so beautiful. i'm honestly struggling so much
I do that band method everytime i finish wash my hair and it helps soooo much with avoiding tangles and shrinkage
I will definitely have to try this as well as your “no heat 2020” challenge! It’s going to be hard lol but I’ll keep track of my growth along with you!
O yeahhh I forgot she was doing no heat this year
I need to start my journey as well
This video is just in time! I desperately need a heat-free trim. By the way, love that you still rockin with the Aveda brush. I bought mine like 3 or 4 years ago because of you!
This hair looks so healthy and your pretty
So I've come across this video because I've been wanting to trim my hair for the longest time and was considering going to a professional but I can't find anyone good in the area and looking on yelp overwhelmed me. Ngl I haven't washed my hair in weeks and I've gotten lazy/unmotivated to do my hair and I extremely dislike the condition it's in. It's in two-strand twists currently but I can see a lot of frizz and split ends. Definitely gonna try this method this weekend cuz ya girl needs some self-care. Thanks for the video
I love all your videos ❤ your hair journey has really taken off 😍
This is a good method. I just twist like I'm doing a twist out and cut ends. Being doing that 2 years being natural. Great video!
Excellent video. I've been trimming my own hair for yrs to allow for new growth.
I have long asian hair but I love watching these for some reason. so satisfying!
My head would hurt sleeping with them but I will band early morning so it will be dry by evening...love it!!! 😍
Idk why I'm watching this video, my hair is loc'd 😂😂 but when I was a loose natural, your stretch technique was a game changer for me.
Interesting technique..I've only seen it done with yarn..will have to try it
Beautiful I'm always impressed with the way u manage & style ur hair, definitely helpful tips!!!!
😀Woohoo! I am very appreciative of your very thorough tutorial. Great stretch method & hair trimming. I'm glad you told us that it was 24hrs later. My hair takes about this lond to completely dry. Especially in the middle.
Great tutorial! Tedious with the banding but looks totally worth it. Thank you for great content!
I found some straight wave formers on amazon. They work really well without having to use alot of stress on your hair. They are not on there anymore but you can get wave formers on Ebay or AliExpress and boil them in a pot of hot water to straighten them. I used 4 packages on my fine 4c medium density hair. If you have thick hair you will probably need 6-8 packages
Great video! I will definitely be using this technique. Thank you so much for sharing! How often do you trim your ends?
Thank God I saw this early. I haven't trimmed my hair in forever and I'm trying as much as possible to avoid heat
I love your channel.. so much good information. I’m transitioners to natural hair and can’t wait
Girl you are so innovative! What other inventions have you come up with!
I was about to go to the salon for a trim, ☺️ thank you. And I missed you.
Great video. Olive oil has always been my go to oil since I became natural 6 1/2 years ago. Coconut oil is also a staple for me.
Hello. I want to say first thank you for sharing your beauty tips and routines it is really made a difference in my skin and my hair. I do have a question the middle of my head is always very dry, what can I do to help moisturize this area more?
Chic always deliver the best, helpful videos...we sure appreciate gurrll! 🙌🏽💜👍🏽
Thank you for doing a trimming video. My hair doesn't grow that fast, and it is probably due to the fact that I don't keep my edges trimmed as much. Most of the time when I do go to the professional, they tell me that I have to get it flat ironed before getting trimmed. Obviously there are other methods. Thanks
Hi,
This vlog will be handy for me as I'm not one for straightening my natural hair. Looking forward to your future vlogs :)
Great video, just want to say hi from Italy. Wish we had alot more natural hair youtubers here. Un baccio
Thanks for being detailed. I’ll have to try this. May I ask where you got the scarf from?
I like how you go straight to the point in your videos.... no long intros. Lol please don’t change
Thank you for another gem 💎. I as just thinking how I could trim my hair on this no heat challenge thank you. Your awesome🤗
Can't wait to try this method! Good one girl!
GIRL...I needed this!!!
I’m totally doing this!!!
Thank you 🙌🏽🙌🏽
She makes this looks so effortless .....
Where I live there are no salons for natural hair. I will definitely do this!!!!!
Always straight to the point! Is your daughter’s hair also natural? I bet with your knowledge it’s just beautiful as yours! 😍
Oh yea I like that...banding method. I was gonna wash my hair tonight aways so am trying this to stretch my hair. I was doing the braiding method that you had shown. But I think this method will stretch my hair more. I already cut my hair 2 weeks ago but maybe I might find some uneven ends with this method thanks Kim you are a saver with this hair tips no heat. Keep them coming. Am still journeying with you with the no heat challenge for the year. Not like i did it much anyways but still keep the tips coming. 🤗😊
Love your videos and your hair. 😍😍😍I did a 2nd big chop in Nov 2018, I was tired my hair shredding. My shower used to look like a massacre. I had been natural then for over 5 years. My hair hasn't always shred a lot so I thought I had to have damage from a either heart, coloring, me, etc etc. So I big chopped. However even with my TWA I still had too much shredding. Now a year and half later my hair is still shredding even with getting my ends trimmed. But I don't think my shredding will end until I have cut off all of my previous damaged hair. Do you prefer this banding method for stretching over doing ponytail plaits? Any suggestions on shredding?
Loved it & will do this from here on out!! Thanx fo sharing sis 🙏🏽 😇🤗🥰
Thank you for the great tips👍 I’m a natural that only does heat once every couple years
I love this Method I refuse to use heat ever and wish I tried this before getting locs. O' well I've been a lazy 4C natural anyways (probably wouldn't have done it anyway).
