The guy in question is Connor Cochran, Beagle's former manager, for those wondering.
A.K.A. "Freff" who had a serious falling-out with artist Phil Foglio over their graphic novel (only one issue published) called 'D'Arc Tangent years ago.
Daniel continuing to be a stand up human being and owning mistakes. Heckin' yeah this is all just a small part of why Daniel's channel is a great space in the booktuber universe.

@@spencercorpuz From what i understood, someone dmed daniel saying that author did something illegal (i think copying their own books idea) and sent daniel "proof". and daniel just talked about it on his fantasy news without double checking the person to see it the "proof" were believable or not. Turns out now from what I got he knows who the person is, that they try to do this to a lot of authors and such and so daniel feels bad for not doing what he is supposed to when giving news - check if they are true or not before talking about them. Which messed up the image of the author. So now Daniel is apologizing and trying to give some attention to the author in a way of undoing the bad he did
@spencercorpuz He didn't verify the source of some information he told us in a previous video. That information turned out to be false. Now that he knows the source of the false information was a bad person who was lying to him, he's telling us what he found out. His mistake was not doing research on the false information before telling us about it

I got to meet Peter at a convention years ago. He's an incredibly sweet man, and I learned about how he was financial abused and manipulated by . As someone who grew up with The Last Unicorn movie on repeat on VHS, I'm so glad that he's been prevailing in his legal struggles.
If this unnamed person hadn't been dishonest with you, you wouldn't have made this video. If you hadn't made this video, I wouldn't know Peter S. Beagle had a new book out. Now I do! If only there was a name for this manner of Effect.

Someone claiming Peter S. Beagle plagiarized a book? Beagle doesn’t need to plagiarize anything. Claiming such is absolutely ridiculous. He’s a damn genius and is one of the reasons I got into fantasy in the first place.
I laughed so hard...very few authors can write the way he does and it was evident to me in the 1st ten seconds of reading.

I've heard of this guy and lawsuit before, but didn't realize he was still going at it. Quite disappointing to hear that. I hope Peter & fam get some peace away from him and his antics.
I've been a fan of Beagle for years and I was so honored to meet him about a decade ago for an anniversary viewing of The Last Unicorn at AFI Silver Theater. He was so kind and funny and he deserves so much better.
I also met him at a different stop on the tour! He was so nice and genuine.
Was only vaguely aware that Beagle had been in an abusive situation but had no idea how bad it was. Thanks for shining a light on the abuser's awful behavior ❤

The works of Peter S. Beagle are deeply meaningful to me. This situation is disgusting. Even more so if we take into consideration that Peter S. Beagle is trying to heal the minds of children (and traumatised inner children) by his writing. Thank you, Daniel, for speaking out and you have my respect for admitting a mistake with such class.

I once ordered something from Peter Beagle's website back when he was managed by this guy and he never delivered the item. He always made up some excuses about why the product wasn't ready. I know a lot of fans were scammed out of their money by the former manager. It is disheartening that he continues to swindle and manipulate people to this date.
I support Peter Beagle and hope that he triumphs over that sleazy ex-manager.
I saw the title of this and I said out loud, yes really, "Oh no, what happened now?" Beagle is a treasure and anything more happening is disheartening.

I know exactly who contacted you. I feel for Peter. I had the chance to meet and speak with him in 2019 at Worldcon and it was an amazing experience. The Last Unicorn has been one of my favourite works for longer than I can remember. Peter is so genuine and kind, it's awful the troubles he's had.
I agree with other commentors. It takes a real adult to admit mistakes, own one's actions, and apologize. I've enjoyed your content, and I will continue to do so with confidence.

If this is the same person, I truly despise them in so many ways. In part because they ruined a very special memory for me, by existing. Mr. Beagle came to my city and did a special showing of The Last Unicorn. I have loved that cartoon since I was very young. Everything about it. The art, the music, the story, all of it. And I have read the book. It’s been a long time, but I loved the book as well. And getting to hear Mr. Beagle talk about the writing process, and stories of when they were making the movie, Is a memory that I cherish so much.
I found out a year after about the abuse that he was being put through at that time. Sleeping on peoples couches, getting very little rest, not being fed properly. And it really hurt this astounding memory of something that, I doubt will ever happen again. And it’s so angered me.
I try hard to at least cling to the good part of that memory, but it isn’t always easy.
Oh crap, that guy. I remember him when there was the Kickstarter for TLU, and that was the start of my awareness of him and his BS. He’s cost Mr. Beagle so much of the years and he’s still grifting.
Damn that's awful. I love Peter's books, plus The Last Unicorn is basically one of my favorite books of all time, and I had no idea about this. That's really upsetting. I'll be reading more on this, thank you for informing us!
Never read the book, but the animated adaptation of TLU was a pretty defining moment for me as a young child. It was one of the first, if not THE first times I can recall in storytelling, of the "not a happy ending" kind of theme. And how that animation went to a lot of trouble to show that even actions done with good intent, can do harm to others. Bittersweet endings as a concept really were introduced to my young brain with that movie. And I think the fact that it set up the fantasy tropes and expectations so much, that even me as a child recognized them, and then peeled them away and said "no see, this is actually very sad and tragic if you look past the veil of deception" was quite profound.

@@happyninja42 If you saw the movie, you basically read the book. It was an *extremely* faithful adaptation. There's a couple super tiny bits that were left out that flesh out the world a tiny bit more, but 97% of the book ended up on screen, all the dialogue was straight from the book... and Beagle himself wrote the screenplay. The most loyal adaptation I've ever seen of anything.
@@noemblem yeah, I can't say i am a fan of "darker" stories, as a child or as an adult, but I do like serious/mature stories, even as a kid. It's why I loved The Dark Crystal as a kid as well. Because while I remember seeing it in the theater when it released when I was 6 years old, and I could tell it was still a "children's story", it had a lot of mature elements to it. Everything wasn't rainbows and sunshine. It had it's joy and silliness too, but there were real problems, and the characters were having to deal with them. And it was framed in a way that wasn't insulting to the target audience (children), but was also entirely digestible for them as well. It made sense. TLU was the same way for me. It didn't "child proof" the story for me, but it also didn't talk over my head. Looking back, that's probably the single trait for most of the stories that hit me as a kid, that profoundly changed my outlook on the world, and that still resonate with me today. That they told an adult story, in a way that was fitting for a child's development, without coming off as talking down, or using kid's gloves. Again, to me, that's not the same as it being "dark" like you said, but just...I dunno...I guess the best word is mature, though that has awkward implications these days xD

Peter S. Beagle, by way of The Last Unicorn, is the reason I'm a published author. Thank you so much for bringing this to light - I had no idea. I love all of his books, but The Last Unicorn holds a special place because it was one of the first new books I bought with my own money. It was a special trade paperback edition that I saw in a shop after having watched the animated adaptation about 1000 times. I went on to read The Innkeeper's Song, A Fine And Private Place, Folk of the Air, and Giant Bones. Though I haven't read anything more recent, maybe I should. It's worth noting that borrows from libraries (in any format) pay authors too, at least in North America, for those who want to help but can't afford to buy books.
There is a freedom that comes with being able to admit when we are wrong and apologize. Humility is a gift. Well done for correcting your mistep!
I stumbled upon the "I'm Afraid You Have Dragons" on Amazon, and quickly added it to my Wish List. I like Peter S Beagle, and I was excited that he's still writing. I never heard of all those rumours against him. I like Booktube, but I don't follow a whole lot. So hearing about Mr. Beagle being stalked is pretty new to me.
I hope he's okay, and that this doesn't discourage him from writing amazing stories.

Peter S. Beagle is one of my favourite author’s. “The Last Unicorn” played a big part in my loving of my fantasy books and continues to be deeply meaningful to me. So sad to here Mr. Beagle is going through this horrendous situation.

Peter S. Beagle is one of my favorite authors who I look up to for his absolutely amazing ability to create. I was lucky enough to attend a showing of the movie The Last Unicorn about a decade ago when he was doing tours. I got the book signed and my picture taken with him. He let me ask questions about writing and was so very helpful. It's one of my fondest memories to date. To know those tours were used to steal from him breaks my heart. He was an absolute (genius) cinnamon roll. The man does not deserve harassment or a smear campaign.
The Last Unicorn has been a favorite of mine since I was a child (more years ago than I would like to admit)! His book In Calabria was also touching. I have been excitedly awaiting this new release to add to his prolific collection! I can hardly wait to see the review video! ❤

I literally bought Last Unicorn this Tuesday (translated version). I heard about it a lot, it seemed impossible to get this book in my language, so I was pleasantly surprised when I saw it in a bookstore. Then I found out that it is a new release from this year. And then this video came out and I`m even more happier that I bought it.

I just read the article and am so horrified. That abusive 2013 tour is where he signed my book! I thought he seemed very tired during the signing but chalked it up to it being late in the evening. The fans never would have supported that tour if we’d known what was happening and especially that he wasn’t getting paid! I’m disgusted. I’m sorry you got dragged into this awful situation.

I don't always catch your fantasy news so while the situation leading up to this sucks, I probably only found out about a book that looks exactly to my tastes because of this separate video. These smear efforts against Peter might have just got him a new reader.
