- A short drive and soft conversation from my home driveway thru Salem, Ohio downtown on main street. A beautiful little Ohio city that deserves to be recognized for being a beautiful place to live and raise a family.
Salem is a city in northern Columbiana County, Ohio, United States. At the 2020 census, the city's population was 11,915. Extending into southern Mahoning County, it is the principal city of the Salem micropolitan area, which includes all of Columbiana County. It lies about 18 miles (29 km) southwest of Youngstown, 28 miles (45 km) east of Canton, and 60 miles (97 km) southeast of Cleveland.
Founded by the Quaker society in 1806, Salem was notably active in the abolitionist movement of the early- to mid-19th century as a hub for the American Underground Railroad. Through the 20th century, Salem served as one of many industrial towns in Northeast Ohio's Mahoning Valley region. Today, the city is a commuter town and an economic center of Columbiana County, home to Allegheny Wesleyan College and Kent State University at Salem.

It's a nice city to visit, and between Pittsburgh and Cleveland.
Salem is very nice. I'm in Lorain county, so I don't get out that way very often.

A wave of nostalgia just hit me watching this. My family when we lived in a small town drove around town and looked at all the Christmas decorations around town. My sister and I would shout
“CHRISTMASSSSS LIGHTSSSS!”
On an asmr note btw. I’m a sucker for the unintentional asmr. So the driving sounds are golden and the relaxing rambling is also amazing. Slight interior car sounds. Perfect!

I've recently heard that there's been a lot of snow in the USA from a friend who lives in Pennsylvania. I'm sure some parts of the USA are attractive. It sure has a lot of lights😃. Australia has very attractive scenery.

But I just live life by trying to enjoy my own interests. It's a quite kind of bliss for me. It's just like getting out and about in nature. But I'm not the kind of person that dances around and laughs etc😑

6:19 Would love to drive such a nice Semi like this. But I think it an OO not fleet Truck. And doing something like that comes with quite some risk like almost any business. Still miss the one I got on my job back then. By far not that nice like this one but we were a good team. Both of us a bit banged up but still up and running for some good years toghether.

Thank you! As a European, this was a very interesting experience seeing an American town at Christmas. I find the mindset to be very different over there. In America people tend to think “what can I do for my community”. While in Europe, it’s more “what can the community do for me” (at least where I live). We should try to be more like you in that regard.

I lived in a small town in Canada (10k population) when I was 17 and the place had the same energy, so this drive feels like pure nostalgia lol. Even more because back then it was the first time I ever saw snow in my life (since there's not much snow here in Brazil) fr I'm really enjoying this video

I’m just seeing this now, but it’s still so odd to me that you live in the town I grew up in and I only discovered that after I had been watching your ASMR videos for a while. I grew up near the train tracks off of S Lincoln Ave. Moved away when I was 15 and have only had a few brief visits since.
I have found myself entertaining the idea of moving back recently and that is kind of crazy if you know me. I struggled as a kid there because I didn’t fit in and was kind of a misfit from a single parent home and various other things, but I find myself nostalgic for all the things that weren’t related to social challenges. It’s nice to see the city thriving in ways it wasn’t for a while. SUSHI, in my hometown? 😅
Additional rambling:
I was born in the hospital there. Saw many movies for the first time at the Twin Cinema including Gremlins when it came out. I got scared during the snow plow scene and went to the bathroom and then watched the rest of that part while hiding just inside the theater doors so I could run out again if I couldn’t take it. 😂 Then I didn’t want to admit I was scared to my mom but she knew what was up.
The Giant Eagle used to be a department store called Consolidated, then it was a Foodland. Then the Foodland moved across the street… or was it the other way around?
I left in ‘92 or ‘93, not long after the ALDI opened. Last time I was back, I went to Josie’s pizza when it was still in the old location and it was like nothing had changed in 30 years, but I heard it has since moved into the red barn where Manhattan cleaners was so I got my hit of nostalgia just in time.
I could go on and on with the useless Salem trivia and history rattling around in my head still.
Yes, Sumo Steak House has wonderful Sushi menu. Salem, Ohio has it's issues, but I think it's still a good town with a great heart.
