I owned a 2004 Burgman 400 a number of years ago. Kept it for three years then sold it. Today, I have the 650 Burgman Executive. Wow. What a difference in power and smoothness. I belong to a scooter club. I've ridden many of our members newer 400's and they just don't compare to the smoothness and power of the 650. This becomes more apparent if you do any long distance riding...
Ha.. I'm thinking of selling mine. I guess I'm itching for a Sport tourer like the Honda CTX 1300. The Burgman is a great machine, I'm just getting a little bored with it. ;)
You`re right. The 400 simply doesn`t compare to the 650- mainly in repair costs! If the electrically operated CVT on the 650 fuck`s up you`re pretty much done with the whole scoot. Everybody who`s ever experienced that will never ever again tell anybody that the 650 is a great machine! Suzuki installed something in the 650 that really nobody needed, wanted or could repair by himself and which adds a constant fear while riding it. Failures of those CVTs occur randomly- no matter how good they`ve been maintained and obviously there`s nothing the owner could do to prevent those breakdowns!
I`d always prefer the Burgman 400 to the 650 and, besides, if you`re taller than 6 ft the riding position on the 400 is much more relaxed because it`s much more "feet forward"!
But, 611 lbs wet is a lot of weight. I think my 84 900 Ninja was 560-ish wet. My 82 850G was around the same, perhaps a bit less. I, of course, like the idea of more power, but muscling around over 600 lbs, sans baggage, is a bit much. Not to mention maintenance...damn, i mentioned it :)
What a great video.
