- There's a town in West Virginia where there are tight restrictions on mobile signal, wifi and other parts of what most of us know as simply: modern life. It means Green Bank is a place unlike anywhere else in the world.
Green Bank sits at the heart of the National Radio Quiet Zone, a 13,000 square mile (33,669 sq km) area where certain types of transmissions are restricted so as not to create interference to the variety of instruments set up in the hills - as well as the Green Bank Observatory, there is also Sugar Grove, a US intelligence agency outpost.
Dave Lee went to visit this unique area.

Same here. Live around 3-4hrs from there . Fun fact I’ve never been there (had a chance to go with the softball time i played for years ago was going to have a game there but my mom stepped in and said your not going )
I live about 50 miles away from here, I have very bad Tinnitus with ringing ears and clicking in one ear. Very tired and exhausted I didn't believe this little town called green bank was like the garden of Eden, I was like B-S one day when I went there within 10 minutes My Tinnitus completely stopped and felt so calm and felt alive for the first time in 30 years. But no homes for sale what so ever. And couldn't afford to leave my job either, within 10 minutes of leaving here my ringing and clicking sound returned full force. We are being killed off by our own technology!

The same. I live in Morgantown WV and it's very uncomfortable living here, tinnitus & ringing in ears, prickling skin sensations, pulsing pain, brain fog etc.; I plan on moving to Greenbank when single resident real estate becomes available.
My wife and I rode a historic railroad in this area and stayed the night at the mountain quest institute inn it was amazing.No radio stations tv or wireless internet surrounded by beautiful West Virginia mountains.The telescope is massive
You probably rode the Cass RR train. I haven't had the chance to do that. I have only been there in the fall when the train is down for the season.
We are so extremely overstimulated in our world, and we know this. Protecting this place makes sense.
Their researchers got it wrong. The National Radio Quiet Zone is not centered around Green Bank. It is centered at the geographic center of the National Radio Astronomy Observatory in Green Bank and the Sugar Grove NSA Station.
Sugar Grove Naval Station no longer exists. Where ya been?
@@kentleach7220 That's why I said NSA station, not Navy base. When the Navy stopped using it, the NSA took over.

@@kentleach7220 that’s only the Naval base portion. The NSA dishes are still up and running, hoovering up all of the communications on the east coast.
The "Quiet Zone" stuff is interesting, I can understand people's satisfaction with relieving themselves of many of the "conveniences" of life.

i live in wv and come here a lot with my grandpa. we always get these little aliens in the gift shop. i've heard some of the old timers around here say deep in the woods in greenbank there is a secret platform used to take vehicles underground. probably not true lol but interesting.

Iceland has similar place, I think they even don't have satellite signal here. (I don't know what happened with that unique nature). The name starts on H.
The GBO is still going strong. Went by it last month and there were quite a few people there - must have been there for one of the three types of tours. I took a tour once and it was just fascinating, Alot of different factions rent an opportunity to spend time here. I think they will be just fine.

I live in Harrison county and there's extreme amounts of Radioactivity in our area and I live less Than 7 miles from an NRQZ and there are dozens of 5g Towers that dot the hills RNM and V2K are effecting lots of people here and they don't realize it
They used to have several telescopes there. Including the original 300 footer that collapsed in 1988.

This is not true! I live 5 minutes from the observatory and have wifi and so do a lot of residents in the area. I have wifi calling on my cellphone, a microwave, and numerous other electronic devices. There is no wifi on observatory property only. Videos like this are misleading and not true.
Is there still no cell service? Too be fair he said no "strong" wifi whatever that mean. I believe that area is a federal "quiet" zone

I'm not sure of all the govt's uses for the Green Bank Project, but it is not to answer the question of if we are alone. Like billionaire Robert Bigelow said on 60 Minutes when asked if he thought we'd ever find extraterrestrial life out there in the universe during our space travels.. "You don't have to go anywhere, they are already here." The govt knows this and is encountering their UAP's all the time, recently declassifying several videos of these craft filmed during intercepts and admitting the existence of the AATIP program.

Radio telescopes are used for all kinds of astronomical research, lots of interesting and important things are best or only observed at the radio part of the spectrum.

Everything in the natural world emits radio waves, everything that is above 0 degrees Kelvin. Radio waves can travel through the cosmic dust, around objects in space. Very few things in the natural world emit visible light, so to observe things there needs to be a light source for the object your trying to observe to reflect. That light is blocked by the cosmic “dust” and other interference. Imagine you’re in a closet, you can still listen to the radio, but you can’t see the light from the sun. Plus they do so so much more than search for aliens.
