Their arguments themselves - no, but their persistence often wears people down to give them lesser sentences or dismiss the charges. Also charges may happen to be dismissed due to some factor other than the sov cit argument, but then they can say it was their argument that did it.

It's never their argument itself. Like the previous person said, their persistence can make it to where prosecutors drop charges or lessen them, which these people take as equivalent to "beating" their case. There can also be general issues that lead to the DA realizing they can't prove BARD or some other technical issue.
To be honest, not at this level but some have gotten away with it with police officers.

I worked in a court 4 years. The problem is courts are packed with criminals, psychos, and self absorbed fools. They have to get through this crap. If he is contempt that means the next day they have to find a spot for him. Costs a lot of money and is a serious pain in the ass. And they usually act the same way the next day. Yes sometime they do contempt, but if it is at all possible they want to keep this moving.

The defendant still believes that he can submit a motion in writing which will change that which means he is going to waste his time composing a word salad of nonsense. Good luck with that!!
