Willkommen to 1930s Berlin where “life is a cabaret” in the brand-new box set, The New Adventures of Bernice Summerfield: Blood and Steel, released today by Big Finish Productions.
In four full-cast audio dramas, Bernice Summerfield (Lisa Bowerman) and the Unbound Doctor (the late, great David Warner) follow an energy signal to a hedonistic paradise.
Their investigations lead them to rural Germany, an archaeological mystery and a smoky cabaret bar run by the non-conforming Compère (Andrew Pepper) in the heart of Berlin. As the city rebels and awaits its fearful fate, the Cybermen arrive, targeting hyperintelligent beings...
1930s Berlin - the party before the end of the world. A city that laughs at the gathering storm. The location of a mysterious alien signal. Bernice Summerfield and the Doctor investigate. What are the Cybermen doing in Berlin? Who are the Ancient Vril? And what horrors lurk beneath the city’s most infamous nightclub?
The four Teutonic tales in this box set are as follows:
Willkommen by James Goss
Why do the Cybermen wish to save the people of Berlin?
Wulf by Aaron Lamont
A young man returns home - will he save his village or will it save him?
Übermensch by Rochana Patel
Why does the Doctor want Bernice to join a German archaeological expedition?
Auf Wiedersehen by Victoria Saxton
Can Bernice Summerfield stop an alien invasion after it has happened?
Director Scott Handcock said: “The Cybermen want the crème de la crème. Weirdly, for emotionless Cybermen, they’re very in tune to how humans work and how their emotions drive them. It’s quite sinister how they’re able to exploit that.
“It was exciting getting scripts set in 1930s Berlin. The environment means you can’t tell a light and fluffy story. There’s always that resonance under it that’s pulling you back and forcing that darker tone onto everything that happens.
“David Warner’s Doctor in these scripts is quite manipulative. I think it's the darkest we’ve seen him but throughout this box set he’s also tremendously vulnerable with some beautiful speeches. It’s a really interesting path for his Doctor to go down.”
“We’ve really come to care about this Doctor-companion - or Bernice-companion - dynamic. The lovely thing about them is that the Doctor’s plans to save the day always rely on Bernice rescuing him.”
The New Adventures of Bernice Summerfield - Blood and Steel is now available to own for just £24.99 (collector’s edition CD box set + download) or £19.99 (download only) exclusively from the Big Finish website.
All the above prices include the special pre-order discount and are subject to change after general release. - Zábava
This is terrifyingly magnificent, featuring the Unbound Doctor and Benny up against the silver supremacists in Nazi Germany. And hearing the late David Warner's voice really breaks my heart. RIP
Don’t worry it’s one step away from homeless tented city’s in USA. Talking of solutions to Oaklands.
What a swansong for David Warner. Talk about keeping the best till last. Cybermen in 1930's Berlin, what a concept!
This sounds like a good last story for David Warner’s Unbound Doctor. R.I.P., David.
That was a brilliant reference at the end with "tomorrow belongs to us." For those who don't know in the film Cabaret there's a scene with a Hitler youth boy singing "tomorrow belongs to me" which the cyberman near enough copies word for word. Subtle but very clever from big finish
The long awaited return of Benny and her Doctor. I’ve been looking forward to this, thank you David and rest well.
For the love of David
It was the perfect sendoff to this pair, unintended or no. Bittersweet, tragic, painful, and excellently written.
Rest in peace David Warner, and I'm hoping Lisa Bowerman is well.
It's almost unbearable how you've been able to build such an enormous corpus of consistently high-quality audio fiction, and that you're nowhere near running out of ideas! I have to wonder why I don't instruct my employer to pay my salary directly to Big Finish... Mind you, I'm not convinced I'll live enough hours to listen to it all! You'd mastered interconnected, multiversal, franchise-spanning storytelling long before it was cool. And here you are delivering yet another corker! Bravo, team! Bravo!
And gosh darn it, David Warner was so spiggin' excellent! 😫
Great trailer! I will miss David Warner as the Unbound Doctor enormously.
I have absolutely no idea what’s going on here.
I’m sold.
Missing David. What a lovely charming man he was.
Good to hear David Warner..
Fantastic.l trailer.
A deserving send-off to an absolute legend.
R.I.P David Warner. The Unbound Doctor.
I hope The Ninth Doctor gets to meet Bernice Summerfield
This please! You know you want to, Big Finish
I watched Omen the other day and it’s fascinating to see David’s earlier stuff. He’ll be missed dearly, a talent and an absolute legend. RIP
I have the second live action TMNT movie on blu-ray to share with my nephew some time. I rewatched it recently and couldn't believe Warner was so young in it...
This doctor can be found in a Russian submarine listening to Ultravox.
he was hungry like the wolf
RIP David Warner.
Powerful trailer - RIP Mr Warner, you will be missed
Would of love to have seen David Warner’s Doctor team up with Jo Martin’s fugitive Doctor, sadly it can’t happen now.
awesome story in billions of ways
Excellent trailer!!!

0:39 R.I.P. David Warner
Hard to believe its been a year since he gone

Love this, excellent work
I finally listened to this the other day and its so good.
Perfect
The Final Adventure of The Unbound Doctor
Will there be more new adventures of Professor Bernice Summerfield? I hope so.
Can’t wait for Warner’s audio alongside Eccleston to be announced!
Yeah.. that might be a problem..
@@chrism596 it was recorded before he died
I wonder if Davids Doctor is regenerating at the end
I hope not.
Col.Brandt "What shall we do when we have lost this war?" Cpt. Kiesel "Simple, prepare for the next one." (Cross of Iron 1977).
Really interesting! However I don’t have other Bernice Summerfield audio in my collection so would it be a bad thing to start with this one?
The main ones to listen to understand the premise is volume 3 and 4 of The New Adventures of Bernice Summerfield. The later ones are random adventures all over the place but in my mind they are worth the listen. David Warner is very entertaining and is definitely worth the time to listen.
@@michaelhalford2640 Vol 3 and 4 are really some of the very best big finish material.
Will Just War be remembered?
For Benny, yes.
