Aizen is heading to demolish Karakura town!
After the captains finish their fights Lord Aizen (Fuck Aizen) heads to destroy Karakura town. While he leaves the squad/Captains trapped in Hueco Mundo he tells Ulquiorra to defend the palace. Yup that's right, HE'S BACK BAAY! But the SS is one step ahead as they reveal they transferred the real town into the SS and they will guard it with the remaining of the squads elite!

The _Turn Back the Pendulum_ flashback arc is actually one of my favorite arcs! Lots of lore drops and some cool stuff!
For what it's worth, at this time in the flashback, the Captains/Lieutenants that we see are in charge of each division during this episode are:
1. Yamamoto
2. Yoruichi (Sui-Feng is her Lieutenant and Urahara was the 3rd Seat at the beginning of the episode)
3. Rose (one of the Visored)
4. Unohana
5. Shinji (with Aizen has his Lieutenant)
6. Ginrei (who he is is explained later)
7. Love (One of the Visored)
8. Shunsui (Lisa the Visored is his Lieutenant)
9. Kensei (One of the Visored)
10. Unknown/Vacant
11. A Kenpachi before Zaraki
12. Urahara at the end of the episode (former Captain was promoted to Zero Division, Hiyori is the Lieutenant)
13. Ukitake
Yes Bleach never misses with their flashbacks for sure! I know for sure we as a group love lore and this miniature arc was done really well! It was fun/exciting to see how different it was back then and had us anticipating what the "incident" that occurred was.
Soi Fon wasn't the Lieutenant. It was Omaeda's (current Lieutenant of squad 2) father who was Lieutenant at this time.
3. Lieutenant was Iba's( current squad 7 vice captain) mother
4. Lieutenant was Hanataro's brother. Sennousuke I think is his name.
Edit: All of this info is in a databook. But we saw Soi fon not having the Lieutenant mark at the side in the episodes also.

Bleach never miss on Flashback arcs. This one (Turn back The Pendulum) and the one in last arc both are 10/10 imo
Agreed they don't miss! Also we loved this flashback arc and we shall see about the other one you are talking about in time. We just loved to see the differences in how the SS hierarchy was so far long ago.
I love this flashback arc, there are many things to be revealed. And the reason why nanao looks so much like lisa is that lisa is her role model, she admire her a lot

Some lieutenants are actually captain level... u can have for example low captain level and high captains level
True! We kind of see the Lieutenants as being Captain level or rising to become captain level for sure. Then you have the actual Captains which are crazy.

The phrase "captain class" is a bit misleading because of some issues translating from Japanese to English. In Japanese, captain and liuetenant are "taichou" and "fuku-taichou" respectively, "taichou" being the word for captain. However, "fuku-taichou" is more accurately transalted as "assistant captain", which you might see in some translations. That's why when people in the series say "captain class" (taichou kaku in Japanese), they are referring to everyone at the captain (taichou) level, including the liuetenants/assistant captains (fuku-taichou).
While some liuetenants like Renji can be scaled to low tier captain level, they are not at the same tier as the actual Squad Captains just because they are referred to as 'captain class".

But there’s a big difference between vasto Lordes. If you’ve seen YYH anime, it’s like the term “s class”.
Some s class people are like 2x stronger than other “s class”

Leaf (Jesus) favorite Shonen is YYH so he would probably get the comparison the most out of us 3. And dang.. Most of the Espada are Vasto Lordes!? Kind of OP if you think about it. If they just had more time they would be insane..

With more time, they could’ve been quite deadly. I assume Espada 1-6 are Vasto Lordes and the rest are adjuchas and Aaronerio (9) who died to Rukia is Gillian

I mean I don't know how to take it. It was said he had the potential to be one but last time we see him in a regular hollow form he's not humanoid. Plus he released in Hueco Mundo... Which VL aren't supposed to. Apparently because Ulqiorra said it recently when we watched another episode.. It could be that he is just a rule follower though.

Grimmjow was confirmed to being a Vasto Lordes in a databook for this arc! But there's a big difference between him and let's say Ulquiorra or Starrk
Each Espada gets a different amp in release mode, and with each stronger Vasto Lordes, the amp in release mode gets bigger.
In the manga, Ichigo/Orihime were low key shocked and "trembling" when Nnoitra went into release mode, but they were chilling when Grimmjow went into his!
