  • Kevin Magee, president of the Cleveland Geological Society, takes you on a geological tour of Ohio.
By coincidence, Ohio's geological history encompasses almost the entire Paleozoic Era. There's nothing from the Cambrian, but it contains rocks and fossils from the Ordovician, Silurian, Devonian, Carboniferous, and Permian, as well as a smattering from the most recent Ice Age and on.
Discover how this 250 million years worth of history is still around and beneath us. And meet some of the most fascinating specimens -- from enormous trilobites to gigantic armored fish -- from Ohio's fossil beds.

Kevin Magee is very generous in allowing us to record and share these. (Also, from a personal standpoint, I'm grateful to have a work reason to watch his talks.)

Wow…wish you’d been my teacher in college…you make this subject very interesting. Btw.. I have a 250 million yr old fossilized sea urchin that was given to me as a 12 year oid kid when I lived in England.

29:50 If you ask me, it seems that the shark preserved well due to the low oxygen content of the sediment it was buried in.
At least that must be part of it, I’m not sure how frequent this kind of fossil is, if it is the exception by all accounts then obviously this alone could not explain its existence.
