  • RMD originated in Okinawa in 1982, combining traditional Eisa and Karate forms with contemporary influences and music to create a new and unique taiko style. The club has grown tremendously and now includes chapters all around the world. Our own Hawaii chapter now includes branches Oahu, Kauai, and the Big Island. Ryukyukoku Matsuri Daiko's members are committed to working together to build and maintain cross-cultural friendships. We invite people of all backgrounds to join us in exploring and perpetuating Okinawan culture through the art and spirit of taiko.

The Hawaii United Okinawa Association (HUOA) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to promote, perpetuate, and preserve the Okinawan culture here in Hawaii. It is a huge part of the Hawaii Okinawan community and allows its members to learn about the culture through various educators and practitioners, a central meeting place to share experiences, and a way to connect with the Okinawan government, organizations, and its people. Running an active organization and a meeting place like the Hawaii United Okinawa Center comes with a significant expense. None of it is possible without the generous donations from our members and supporters.

Great video. Love seeing folks keeping the art alive despite all the challenges, be it personal or global pandemic. Very inspiring. Thanks :)
