    When I rode Amtrak for the first time last year, I had a pneumatic ortho boot on, and without even asking, the ticket agent booked me in the same part of the car you were in :-)

    What about double decker trains?

    You can keep your wheelchair with you? That's good as I'm more comfortable having it where I can get it when I need it. On their website, it said if you transferred to a seat, the wheelchair had to be stowed away and someone would get it when you needed it.

    • @djlawlz4041
      @djlawlz4041 Před 5 lety

      If there’s no other passenger who reserves the handicapped seating area, you can keep your chair with you. However if someone does reserve it and you do too, your chair has to be stowed away if you decide to get off of it.

    I have a t12. My question is what about when the platform is not at the door level of the train car? Because not every train platform is show in the video is the same. How about double decker cars how does one in a wheelchair use them?

      Joseph Paul Ritter you stay on the bottom

    • @djlawlz4041
      @djlawlz4041 Před 5 lety

      In terms of when the platform isn’t level, they have a machine that you roll onto and it will lift you up to the train and then you’ll roll across a small metal bridge to get into the train.
      In terms of double deckers, they usually have a handicap bathroom and seating where the door is before the set of stairs to go up or down.

      AH HA! So that's how it works! Thanks Jay... Now I have no worries about that. Thanks for the info! I have a walker and a wheelchair, but use my walker on good days.

  • @robertmartin4646
    @robertmartin4646 Před 6 lety +2

    HMM, seems easy enough, but why a ticket for the wheelchair? Does that mean I have to get a ticket for my walker? I'm confused. What your saying here, is not matching with AMTRAK. They gave me a total different story.

    • @djlawlz4041
      @djlawlz4041 Před 5 lety +1

      The ticket is just to prove that it is supposed to be there with you because otherwise your reserved seating can be given away if there’s no ticket showing you reserved it.

  • @ChrisPage68
    @ChrisPage68 Před 10 lety +1

    Why should you have another ticket for your chair? I just hope you don't have to pay extra, because that is discriminatory. If I use a train to go the short hop to London, I stay in my chair. And you have to phone ahead to make sure the assistance is there - a week in advance.

      I was wondering if bathroom breaks and meals are a problem when going cross country. How is it when transferring to the toilet on the train?

    • @djlawlz4041
      @djlawlz4041 Před 5 lety

      When you use your wheelchair on Amtrak you don’t have to pay for the actual wheelchair. The ticket is just to prove that it is supposed to be there with you because otherwise your reserved seating can be given away if there’s no ticket showing you reserved it.

  • @nunyabuziness9532

    • @djlawlz4041
      @djlawlz4041 Před 5 lety +2

      You don’t have to pay for the chair. The ticket is just there to prove the chair has reserved seating.

  • @kotonohakatsura6930

    Pay for your chair that's kinda weird. Here in Germany you never have to do this. Maybe this is a cultural thing? I don't get it.
