Sarah kept that magnificent voice and talent right to the end of her remarkable life. She was known to be one of the nicest people in entertainment as well as a true genius, God bless her.
I must add a 'fresh comment here: we are almost gone from the days of performances like this. No dancing, no gyrations, just plain and simple singing-story telling, taking the listeners on a ride to a place never visited before or since. Two beautiful instruments being used to infuse love, life, energy, and oneness into the receiver. We need more Sarah's and Ella's and Dinah's and Nancy's on the airwaves.
Thrilling... two master musicians.. just ad libbing through this.. making it work.. I am sure they just decided to go for it with this.. it did not seem all rehearsed..
I didn't think it was possible for me to like Sammy or Sarah more than I already did, but I was WRONG! This is just incredible. What artistry! Thank you very much.
0:40 Sammy says "you start...its your masterpiece..." because Sarah Vaughan premiered "Tenderly" in 1947. Many assume Rosemary Clooney premiered the song, but she didn't record it until 4 years later - albeit with a larger recording company that had superior mass distribution and promotion than the label Vaughan recorded with in 1947.
He was very intelligent for a man with no formal education and didn't learn to read and write until he joined the Army at 17. Even to the last days of performing he said he never even knew how to read music and couldn't tell you what key he sang any song in. He basically mimics all the sounds he hears which is probably why he was such a good impressionist.
@TheCmeljazzman When she passed away they showed various footage of her and I saw a clip from the 80s of the two of them performing, so i know one exists.. I hope it pops up on here soon :D
@buffalmacco76 So that makes 1973 Duke Ellington: We Love You Madly, 1978 Tonight Show, 1983 MDA and there is another one from the 80s i could swear after 1983 possibly 1987
Didn't they do another duet in the 80s????? When Sarah died there was footage of them performing on something it was clearly from the 80s and it wasn't this clip.. perhaps around 87 or so...
@@shanegreen1677 in 1978 when Sammy Guesr hosted the tonight show they duetted Tenderly and im guessing the same in some other clip from 87... i will keep looking
Agree... but She was one of the best musicians and singers, an amazing combo.. .. and this is in her key... her song.. but it was cool to see them just drift through this ad libbing.. it worked..

Her voice gives me chills...first time ever hearing of her.
They were both adorable, and bursting with talent.

I'm glad to have lived most of my life through the greatest musical age of the 20th Century. Thanks CZcams for showing so much for us to still enjoy.
God i miss them. When this kind of voice gets only 27,000 views is a testament to how our music industry is going.

Superb. Both of them beyond comparison and above classification.

Give Sammy Davis credit even with his great voice following that opening by Sarah Vaughan that he knew would be there took guts.
I didn't think it was possible for me to like Sammy or Sarah more than I already did, but I was WRONG! This is just incredible. What artistry! Thank you very much.

Sammy was actually a quite intelligent man, in addition to being a performer par excellence. May Sarah and he both rest in peace.

TWO LEGENDS. But… the video is just starting and I hope Sarah just sings this straight through… and doesn’t do all her…. Weird things
Sammy Davis, while a fine singer, did not add much to that performance - to my ears anyways - maybe Sass is beyond his pay grade? Hmmmm

Rams4ever Sarah was above everybody's pay grade!
ANYONE would pale next to Sassy :)
Would she have sung I gotta be me or what kind of fool I am as well as sammy?
